Xbox-Scene Tutorial: DVD Module - IR signal LED (v0.1)

Based on Elfig[] work (link)

Whats needed:
* Dvd Kit (MS one used here)
* Knife, (to open up the DVD dongle)
* Solder Equipment
* Drill (I used a reamer)
* 3mm Led (I used a 5mm uv LED, lower the current the better)
* 100ohm resistor (value changes depending on led)

Sorry for image quality, cheap Quickcam..

LED and Resistor (I use red line to show Cathode)

Here are the parts trimmed (leds anode), I recommend not to rim one side of the resistor until you soldered it to the led).

Now bend the legs over, careful not to break them off.

I drilled the hole for the led at this time (or before doing the led and resistor), going to use cover and hole to hold led while soldering. Going to have fun cutting the dongle open :D

Heres the LED resting in the old, I recommend pre-tinning all the solder points, makes it easier

Now solder the led to the LED, easy when the legs of the led and resistor are pre-tinned (pre-tinning: putting solder on part before joining), Note the bend in the LED and the resistor leds. When soldering the 2 parts together, solder the legs side to side or the resistor leg under the led leg (between led leg and body), so the led will sit in dongle flat.

I pre-tinned the pcb solder points first. then attached the resistor side to the solder point, then bent LED leg to IR module leg.

Now tape or glow dongle cover back on. and ya done

AGH, too bright, I recommend not using a 1500MCD led :D can see led spot on the well on other side of room.
