Time
to clean
house

Don’t
be afraid
to use
a little
electrical
tape,
as you
can see
I’m
stuffing
my chip
inside,
and running
the 4
wires
out of
the back
along
the side
(top of
picture).

All
buttoned
up…
Ready
to put
it back
in the
XBOX
Now to
get this
drive
to fit
in the
black
tray,
(it’s
a little
wider),
in the
corner
near controller
port #1,
that black
plastic
thing
is just
in the
way, so
I’m
going
to Dremel
it down
to make
it fit,
you could
just cut
it off
but I
think
it will
work better
just trimming.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It’s
a tight
fit but
you can
see that
I shaved
off half
of the
O, and
its now
more of
a U. The
screw
from the
bottom
still
fits,
it just
sits between
half plastic
and half
metal
casing.
Cosmetics

You
should
be able
to unsnap
the Front
Plate
from your
old DVD-Rom,
and the
one that
was on
your new
DVD-Rom,
mine didn’t
fit exactly,
I had
to trim
the tray
a little
but it
looks
good now…

Playing
with the
EJECT
button
now….
(evil
cackle
here).
In
closing
Make
sure you
try to
route
all your
wires
down (like
the splitter
for power)
or else
you’ll
never
get that
top back
on. And
when putting
the drive
in the
black
plastic
holder
you need
to make
sure you
align
it up
far enough
towards
the front
so that
it opens/closes
correctly,
Don’t
be afraid
to bundle
up some
masking
tape or
something
to lift
the front
of the
drive
up or
anything.
And if
you want
to tape
the whole
drive
down to
the plastic
thing
to keep
it from
moving
it’s
a good
idea too.
Now you’ve
had a
lot of
fun with
this you
can wire
in some
new LED’s
so you
can see
the LED
activity.
Man this
thing
sounds
like its
going
to fly
away when
reading
CDR’s.
Once
everything
is hooked
up you
can play
with a
audio
CD and
the MS
Dashboard,
if you
don’t
have any
signals
hooked
up it
goes nuts
and starts
skipping
tracks.
The light
should
be flashing
green
while
the tray
is open,
and stop
once the
tray closes.
Hopefully
I didn’t
screw
anything
up, I
tried
to document
what I
did exactly.
It should
be enough
info to
get it
working.
