The
review:
The DMS.3
v2.0 is
compatible
with any
version
(v1-v8)
from any
region.
I installed
it in
a v7 PAL
Playstation2.
Compared
to an
Xbox modchip
installation
this is
ofcourse
alot more
difficult
and it
will take
alot more
time to
install.
But any
person
with decent
experience
in soldering
will do
this fine.
The newer
version
playstation2's
are also
alot easier
to install
then the
pre-v5
models.
I used
awg30
wire for
all wires
except
the 3.3v
and ground
for which
I used
heavy
gauge
wires.
I kept
all wires
(23 in
total)
as short
as possible
'cause
this seems
to cause
quite
a few
issues
with PS2
modding.
You can
find all
installation
diagrams
on the
DMS3 website.
The DMS.3
is a 'no-swap'
modchip
so it
should
boot any
game directly
without
using
an Action
Replay
(called
GameShark
before
in USA).
Special
and unique
about
the DMS.3
is that
is that
it is
flashable
(with
a bootdisk),
the mode
select
is done
using
the PS2
controller
at boottime
and it
has a
so-called
'Dev.olution
Mode'
where
you can
boot programs
from the
memorycard.
Just like
the Messiah2
it's possible
to 'disable'
the modchip
so you
can go
online
with your
PS2.
I'm not
sure with
what version
of software
my DMS.3
v2.0 came
so I first
updated
my chip
with the
latest
software
(v1.2)
... it
flashed
the chip
without
problems.
The timing
and stability
of modchips
is very
important
on PS2.
We tried
several
disks,
here are
our results.

There
have been
some issues
between
Team DMS
and Team
PS2Reality
(multimedia
player
for PS2)
in the
past,
but the
latest
version
can officially
be loaded
from memorycard.
I tested
this,
and it's
working
fine although
it's nothing
compared
to Xbox
Mediaplayer
;). Considering
the PS2
is proprietary
hardware
it's still
a damn
nice bit
of coding
the guys
at PS2Reality
did.
