Thomson Replacement Lens (for Xbox) review 03 May 2003.

We received a Thomson Replacement Lens for Xbox from Lik-Sang.com (Pacific Game Technology (Holding) Limited).

This replacement lens will only work in the Thomson DVD drives - so don't try to use it on Samsung or Philips drives.
I opened my DVD drive , removed a small plastic 'thingy' on the backside of the laser and removed the 2 screws so I could remove a bar and get the laser off. No idea if this is the 'official' way to do it , but it worked fine for me.

Closed it, and I tested if by chance it was any better then the original thomson lens.
I tried alot of different media , and my conclusion is that it's still impossible to use cd-r's , dvd-r's read at the same level then the normal thomson lens and cd-rw and dvd-rw are working better on this replacement lens. Ofcourse this was tested without tweaking the lens pots ... If you tweak your drive you can get better performances, but that's done at own risk.
Also note that original Xbox disks still work without any problem. If xbox disks can't be read on a PC DVD drive it's because of the firmware and not because of the lens.
If you destroyed or over-tweaked you original lens , this is what you are looking for.
