More about fake SlaYer's Installer 2.5
>> From SlaYer on forums.xbox-scene.com:
It has come to my attention that some pathetic individuals have turned my installer into a Trojan. It is truly disgusting to see people behave this way instead of applying their skills to help others in the scene. To combat this, I am releasing both the MD5 Hash Key and the CRC32 checksum for the real installer.
Please keep in mind that the real installer should idealy be obtained from the official IRC channel listed in my official post HERE.
You can get the installer anywhere outside of the #slayers channel, but you take a chance. If you do get it somewhere else, use the information below to verify it's an authentic release.

Official filename as downloaded is: SlaYers_EvoX_Auto-Installer_v2.5_FINAL.exe
Size of file is: 113610630 bytes
The MD5 is: bb12d38f6d926ae7199ea6808a86751a
The CRC32 is: 1885785732 113610630

Hope this helps everyone out and sends a message to those bastards! Enjoy!

BBX 0.0.1
>> From readme:
If you have played Tetrinet you should have a big head start. I assume you know how to play regular Tetris.
This game is Tetris with weapons. For each line you clear, a block with a letter on it will appear in your field.
These lettered blocks are weapons and can be used on your opponents or on yourself (some of them are good).
When you clear a line that has a weapon in it, that weapon will go into your inventory.
To use the current weapon on an opponent (or yourself) you press the button that appears above their field (A, B, X, Y).
You can change which weapon is current by using the right thumbstick.
The game decides how many people are playing based on how many controllers are plugged into the xbox.

X-B.I.T and Xbox v1.5 news
>> From dms3.com:
After finally receiving a v1.5 console we can now confirm that the X-B.I.T can be installed on v1.5 consoles without soldering. We are sorry for the misinformation in the foregoing news post. We actually never had a v1.5 console in our hands, we were only relying on information from the public. The LPC port on the v1.5 consoles is no longer providing GND and 3v3. This is why other modchips need to be connected to the according points on the mainboard by soldering or using special adapters. The X-B.I.T is operating with a 5v supply voltage which is still available on the LPC port. The GND connection gets established by screwing the X-B.I.T on the board. Please ensure that you only use the bundled screw and spacer.

We can therefore confirm that the X-B.I.T is a completely solderless solution for v1.0 - v1.5 consoles as it is from the first day of it's release. No additional cables or adapters are needed. We removed the misleading information from the former posts.

EurAsia Pro Generic Flash Disc v1.2
>> A new version of the EurAsia Pro Generic Flash Disc(info) has been released.
What's new/fixed:
* added new flashtype HY29F002TT-90 to raincoat
* added 50mb dummy file for "flash disc"
* increased dummy file size for "bios disc" to 50mb
* minor flash script display changes
* improved dox
* sane dir structure within zip

TODO (plans for the future):
I want to take the flash disc to another level in the future 2.x releases and implement a "brain file system" (tm) which gives the user power to configure his own flash command sequence using the 29xxx or 28xxx methods. This way the user will be able to check datasheet for a specific flash and have complete control of commands used by raincoat during flash. In other words an optional config file for reset, sector erase, chip erase, read and program etc.

Xbox 2 CPU to be a 65nm part
>> Another TeamXbox exclusive about the CPU for the Xbox Next. From teamxbox.com:
Today we can confirm that the Xbox 2 CPU will be built using a 65-nanometer manufacturing process.

“It’ll be built on a 65-nanometer process,” a source confirmed to TeamXbox. “IBM has already taped out experimental samples at its East Fishkill fab but it will take between 12 to 18 months for them to deliver commercial parts. Anyway, they’re way ahead of Intel.”

“With the new 90nm manufacturing process, IBM broke the 2 Ghz barrier. The 65-nanometer technology will allow them to break the 3 Ghz barrier for sure and get closer to the 5 Ghz mark,” our source further clarified and was quick to add, “However, this is not just about clock speed. The more important thing here is what this baby and its specialized cores can do in a single clock cycle.”

For those really technically savvy, you may have noticed the same inaccuracy that we perceived. He used the word “cores” instead of “units”, which left us wondering…is Sony the only one coming with a CPU that is made of small groups of cores working together to process tasks in parallel? Only time will tell.

(AUS) Xbox Grows Console Market While Competitors Decline
>> From www.xbox.com/en-AU:
16 January, 2004, Sydney – Xbox today revealed it is closing the gap on its competitor, with figures showing Xbox is the only console in the marketplace to have experienced growth in the last half of the year 2003.

Xbox drove the market growth* of 2% during this period, as the only console brand to record growth. From July 1st to December 31st 2003, Xbox grew year on year by 10% while PS2 declined 1% and GameCube declined by 5%*.
This expansion of the Xbox presence was reflected in a surge in market share during the key Christmas months, where Xbox snapped up almost 40% of the market. During November and December, Xbox recorded a very solid 37% and 39% market share respectively.* Figures just released** show the share has again jumped to 44%, with Sony PS2 now holding 51% of the market, and Nintendo GameCube a mere 5%.*

With NghtShd making threats of not updating XBtool(info), I took it upon myself to make a simple Windows utility to customize the latest Xecuter2 bios. It's based on the work of skorchir and 82ross, found here: forums.xbox-scene.com.

This will allow you to do the following:
- The 4981 fix, msxboxdash.xbe-]xboxdash.xbe.
- Change boot partition between C/E/F/G.
- Disable the trademark, splash, and animation.
- Customize the boot colors to your liking.

I've tested this extensively, and it's as reliable as the hacks are. Anyone who knows me from the Dreamcast scene can speak on my behalf.

Fake Slayers v2.5 Evox Auto-Installer Trojanized.
>> It has come to my attention that there are copies of the SLAYERS 2.5 ISO circulating IRC channels that are trojanized. This version is designed to format drives and move files from their normal locations. Until a new version is released from the author of the real SLAYERS tool it is recommended you do not download SLAYER 2.5 from IRC.

Update from OzXodus - Xenium shipping!
>> From ozxodus.com:
WE HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!
Delivery, Delivery, Delivery
We have delivered and are delivering as we speak!

We promised you that we would have a Xenium chip in your living rooms in less than three weeks from announcing the first features and we are way ahead of schedule. First OFFICIAL feature list posted 13th January 2004. First unofficial feature list (thanks to our marketing friends) posted 9th January 2004. First promise made (New Year resolution) posted December 31st 2003. Here are some facts for you: Official feature list to release date-2days, unofficial feature list to release date-6 days, first promise of release date to release date 15 days. BEAT THAT!!

We are proud, very proud, and have many team members and staff to thank and praise for the outstanding work done and the tireless hours and sleepless nights spent to meet deadlines and targets. With such a large global team at work on this project it is difficult to thank you all individually here but you all know who you are and we have done something, that is yet another first. We have delivered on our promise!! The marriage of our two teams had one major drive and ambition and that was to bring professionalism, quality and service to our trusted and loyal customers and consumers. Obviously, a major component in making these facts real is living up to extremely high standards we set by being leaders in our field and by keeping our promises to all of you. And YES we have done it ahead of schedule!! For those of you that may not have picked up what we are trying to say or are too lazy to read all the credits above, here it is in bold:
XENIUM IS OUT AND IS NOW SHIPPING!!

WE HAVE DONE IT AGAIN (part 2)
It seems that the stunned silence we have created on the scene this past week was too good to be true! Well we have said we like making waves and ….yes…you guessed it…we have done it again. No sooner had our hardware battles subsided to a dull roar than our software battles have begun. I tell you it is tough at the top! Although there will be an official response by our team members OzXChip about the accusations made we would like to officially state that we are a team and that we stand united. (Funny how they chose our scheduled release date to bring this up). But that is all the justification and response that such nonsense deserves so we will not allow anyone one to burst our bubble today!! That would not be too smart would it? ;-) The proof is in the pudding and our pudding is on the table!!!

Finally, we would like to say a special thanks to all of you out there that have overwhelmed us with e-mails to place orders. Your support is fantastic and we are truly grateful for your loyalty and trust in the team and the product. We are really doing our best to keep up with the unexpected demand and to our resellers we ask for a little patience as we are forced to part ship larger orders so as to be more fair to all.

Reply from OzXChip about Xenium-SmartXX link
>> We received this mail from OzXChip about news released by SmartXX earlier today(see):
The following statement has been issued by the former team members OzXChip in relation to the development of the Xenium:

Several months ago it was mentioned on the OzXChip forums that we were working on a new design called the OzXChip II that would deliver new levels of control, flexibility and upgradeability.
The relationship that was formed to develop the OzXChip II broke down due to diversities of opinion within the development team and the project was then aborted.
The core members of OzXChip who had originally created the OzXChip II design as far back as February 2003, then formed an alliance with Xodus to implement the technology into Xodus’ hardware and this has lead to the development of the Xenium and the formation of OzXodus.
The disbanding of the OzXChip II development team lead to an alternative device called SmartXX being developed. This group behind this alternative device has made claims on a German website as to the origin of the Xenium claiming it is based on “old sources”.

With the assistance of the Xodus’ development team, OzXChip have completely redesigned the software control system to allow for even greater flexibility and future improvements. With the very talented Xodus guys we have managed to develop a superior design in terms of both the hardware and software in a much shorter timeframe. The efficiency and professionalism of our new relationship as OzXodus is obvious with a ground-up redesign hitting the market so fast it has caused many waves.
We wish these former members of the old OzXChip II development team all the best with their latest project, we just hope that these members will come to realise that a project like the OzXChip II should have been fun, and not the disaster it turned out to be.
It is with great pleasure that OzXChip is able to finally bring our design to the market with our new partners in OzXodus, we are extremely confident that we can finally get down to doing what we do best and that is developing innovative new technology for your favourite console.
If the last month and a half are anything to go by you can be sure that OzXodus will continue to bring you innovation, professionalism and quality products.

The Xenium is here and is out ;-), the OzXChip II is not. The only historical link and parallel that is relevant today is that the name OzX was associated with the original design and that name is also part of our new design. We fail to see how we could “steal” or copy our own concept from ourselves. OzXChipII by OzXChip now OzXodus .. see our simple point ? Would there be a smartxx chip without OzXChipII ? ..hmm I wonder …As we have done, we suggest our friends look to the future and develop better, more innovative products for the consumer.

More news about the SmartXX *updated*
>> More news about the new SmartXX modchip (from the maker of PC-BioXX and NitroXX) has been released
Some new pictures showing the features:

Picture of the SmartXX LDC screen: picture
Pictures of the SmartXX OS: picture1, picture2, picture3.

ETA for modchip: unknown
The official website has also been launched: http://www.smartxx.com

Update: From LabMaster/Elses on SmartXX forums[checkpoint-interactive.de] (translated from german to english - thx to CraiZE and Nuendo):
About the SmartXX & Xenium Story:

The Current SmartXX was originally as OZXCHIP II planned and like the name already points out that it was a development of the guys over at OZX with us.
Sadly while in development of the modchip we had our differences. Due to that fact, we separated and the developers toke the decision to either get a new partner or do the marketing on their own. But usually developers are bad sellers, so they tried to get a new partner, which they did.
Stupidly did they overlook that the guys of OZX still had access to old Sources (luckily buggy ones).
The development itself has gone further within this time and the modchip has been extremely changed from back then, where at the same time OZX thought what they could do with the old sources. As you can see, the result is the Joint venture of OZX and Team Xodus, whom are now using the old sources to create a new modchip called "Xenium"

Overall:
There will be now 2 modchips, where both are from the same basis from the Developers of BioXX/NitroXX.
We can only hope for Xenium that they found capable people which were able to enhance from the old outdated sources. But as it seems from screenshots, it isn't the case. Those screenshots (except the background) are 1:1 identical, and that was our development status from October 2003.
To the Start of SmartXX we have to say that will be the blow in the modchip scene, i'm really awaiting it.

Here's another Statement why we released the information so late:
(The main reason can be read above)
1. We had to search for a new partner
2. After we discovered that the Guys over at OZX used our development parts, we had to change the hardware and made it secure. So it couldn't happen that Xenium would run the same Software as SmartXX.
3. At the moment the Flashram market almost dead, the prices climbed to 5 or 6 times compared to back then in October 2003. And at the moment is it almost impossible to acquire flashes of 4 or 8MB, and if you get one it will be delivering with a delay up to 8weeks or longer.

I hope this clears the whole Situation up.

X2 Bios 4980 + Error 13, X2 4981 coming soon
>> From Team Xecuter on the Xecuter Forums:
Lot's of you have been reporting Error 13 which is a dashboard problem.
Now we couldnt duplicate this at all so had no idea why apart from that you must have been doing something wrong. However today we were given a box that had the error and it looks like there may be a small bug - but not a serious one.

It effects box's that boot from the ms dash first.
The bios is looking for msxboxdash.xbe - a stupid ass typo
You can boot from DVDR no problem and FTP to the box to install any dash (or even temporary rename your xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe) - and then everything will work

we'll fix this tomorrow
also a couple more changes in the dash boot order process:
1. avalaunch.xbe
2. evoxdash.xbe
3. mxmdash.xbe
4. unleashx.xbe
5. xboxdash.xbe

This will be 4981

I can imagine it will be possible to use the screen for the modchip features (see selected bios, see bank-mode, ...), but maybe it'll be able to do more. (using screen in homebrew apps ?)

(UK) Console market plateaus in 2003
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
Sales of videogames consoles in the UK edged downwards by 1 per cent during 2003 according to ChartTrack's annual hardware figures - a fairly significant slowdown in growth, which may well represent the peak of the current generation.

As a quick comparison, the PS2 outsold the Microsoft Xbox by almost three to one, and outsold Nintendo's GameCube by over five to one. Considering the price differences, the technical inferiority of the PS2 and the strength of its rivals' first party line-ups, this is an incredible result for Sony, and it's almost hard to believe that the company has had such unprecedented success with a machine that had such a difficult launch period.

Microsoft, will reflect on a year that might have been, having only managed to improve on its 2002 sales by a disappointing 6.6 per cent - and all that despite the launch of the impressive Live service, arguably some of the best games of the year, two price cuts and some incredibly good value bundle deals that almost equated to the machine being given away for free in some of the more aggressive retailers.
Although UK sales of the Xbox - crucially - usurped the Ł50 cheaper Cube by 82 per cent over the course of 2003, the gulf between it and Sony was almost as vast as the year before, with an embarrassing one to three sales ratio between the Xbox and PS2. During the last six weeks of the year, the Xbox managed to account for a relatively meagre 17.3 per cent of the Christmas market share, and it wasn't until the last two weeks of the year that sales reached the levels that Microsoft would have been hoping for in its forecasts.

Gentoox HDTV support *updated*
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
This new script is infinitely better than the last, it uses routines instead of loads of repeated blocks of code (like in the previous version). It controls the linuxboot.cfg file, your .xinitrc file (for onscreen keyboard settings), the GDM Init file (again, for on screen keyboard), the XF86Config file (for overall XFree resolution) and the xbvinit file (for fine tweaking of the resolution). All files are patched dynamically, unlike before where several XF86Config files were needed to move into place when needed. The xbvinit file is only used for standard "TV" settings. Only 640x480 PAL/NTSC is available for Focus due to driver limitations.

All you have to do is run "magic" and everything will be automatically updated. I've been messing around with resolution settings all morning and the ones listed in xbvset are the ones that I could get working. Resolutions in brackets may not work since I lack the hardware to test them, however all XVKBD and XFCE4 resolution settings are set correctly for ALL modes:
TV: All resolutions
HDTV: (480p) - (720p)
X2VGA: 480p - 720x480, 1024x768 720p - (1024x768, 1280x720)

Please, give feedback on this - it's a MAJOR advancement so I expect there to be some compatibility issues. Also, please remember this release DOES include Focus support, but I've absolutely no way of testing it, so some feedback on this would also be much appreciated!

Sleath is working on a new SDLx port. This time is the remake of the classic Nethack game called Falcon's Eye

Well I've been up all night debugging and since I finally got it working, I want someone to share it with (wife is asleep) :)
Check it out: screenshot
Looks rather nice really. Cept for the fonts of course. I'll have to increase their size. I'm not really sure how to do that, but I'll figure it out. Not having done this stuff ever before makes little things like that quite tedious for me. At least thing get easier with practice.

X-BIT in production again + new guides for xbox v1.5
>> From dms3.com:
The second wave of shipments started at the beginning of this week. We would like to thank all the people waiting so long for their shipments. Thanks for your patience and your understanding. We also updated the manuals section with the v1.5 alternative solder points for 5V and GND. Unfortunately the v1.5 consoles cannot be modified without soldering at the moment but we already designed a cable which can be plugged onto the existing X-BIT mainboard. The cable will be ready for delievery in a few weeks and will get bundled with future shipments. The cable will be compatible with the current X-BIT version.

Apache v1.3: ATX PSU to Xbox
>> Some news I missed from earlier this month. Might be usefull for all those doing case mods. From Tribemods on forums.xbox-scene.com:
Product Description:
Ever consider trying to put your xbox in a PC Case and discover the ATX Motherboard plug won't work on your xbox motherboard? Have an xbox power source die on you? Well dry your tears because tribemods is now offering our apache v1.3 chips for ATX Power Supply conversion! The apache regulates the voltages of the ATX power source to work with your xbox (and not burn the motherboard out) as well as inverts the power on signal so you don't have to leave it unpinned (and turn it on the annoying "ATX first" method).

Product Specifications:
-Standby Power out is regulated from the ATX 5.5v to the Xbox 3.3v. This regulations keeps your Xbox motherboard running at the proper voltages so there is no risk of sparking, blowing out components, or any other hazards.
-Power signal in inverted. The xbox power signal is dictated from the motherboard where ATX power signal is dictated form the Power Source. The signal is inverted so that only the xbox power button needs to be turned on for the system to run, instead of having to switch the power supply on and off every time your xbox is used.
The Apache v1.3 has 5 solder points, the Apache v1.3 PLUS is solderless.

XBOX developers still ignore GPL license?
>> From Frodo on xboxmediacenter.com:
Again we're sorry to see an XBOX developer which forgot about the GPL license. This time its the 'Complex Tools(info)' application which according to the author uses our port SAMBA 3.01. Off course we're very happy to see that our libraries are used by other developers but remember that both our software and in this case SAMBA too are licensed under GPL. This means that the 'Complex Tools' developer should provide the sources of his application if they are using any of our source code, we hope that they just forgot about it this and will adhere to the GPL license.

OzXodus posts full introduction to Xenium
>> Team OzXodus released an introduction to their new Xenium modchip (reviewed last week by xbox-scene):
INTRODUCING, THE XENIUM!
The first chip to offer fully software controlled user interface that opens up possibilities and options never dreamed possible before! No longer is a chip limited to hardware controlled switching and countless add-ons and external devices.

FEATURES: HARDWARE
1. NO DIP SWITCHES
2. Multiple install method, Quick-solder, pin header (supplied), wire. (Solder-less Adaptor + D0 wire loom available shortly).
3. Dual SPI port for unlimited future add-on?s
4. Compatible with all known consoles to date (v1.0 ? v1.5)
5. Full colour Status/Bank LED (no more Live banning!)
6. Hardware protected Emergency Recovery System (ERS). (No reason to ever remove chip for bad XeniumOS update)
7. Inbuilt Flash system. No more need for direct connection to computer ( No more troublesome LPT or USB programmers)
8. D0 Control .. SAVE YOUR CONSOLE .. with D0 control we ensure the minimal stress is applied to the D0 line by only pulsing D0 at reset time, all other times the D0 is left free..
9. Small compact design with no complicated forced extras for the unit to function.

FEATURES: SOFTWARE
Undoubtedly, one of the most unique and exciting new developments on the Xenium is the Xenium OS. With features and options too many to mention and many more possibilities still being explored it is no wonder we are branding this the chip of the future! Listed below are merely a few of the major ones for you wet your appetites!

BANKING SYSTEMS (picture)
Choose from : 1MB, 512/512k, 256/256/256/256k, 256/256/512k
Set through XUI, the user can simply configure the bank operation mode of his Xenium through a simple onscreen menu, and the use of the joypad.

BOOT BANK OPTIONS
* Default Boot Bank Quick-start (picture)
User can choose to set a default boot bank ranging from any one of the banks mentioned in the Banking Systems above, to the stock onboard tssop bios and even the in built Linux derived Cromwell(info).
Once the default bank is set and the optional boot delay time set to 0sec, Xenium OS will boot to preset default bios with in under 4 sec from power up, every subsequent warm reset will not reboot Xenium OS, it will simply restart the preset bios.
* Quick Select (picture)
The four color buttons of the joy pad (A , X, Y, B) can be pre programmed. In the comfort and ease of X-UI you can boot into any one of the banks mentioned above ( including fully disabling the chip) , by simply booting the console and holding down any one of these buttons. The Xenium OS will sense your choice and in less than a 1/10th of a second make your selection real !! (try that with a clumsy switch!!)
* Boot to Xenium-UI
To complete our boot selection options, the Xenium can be configured to default boot to XUI, where a boot bank clearly named in plain text can be chosen and booted into.

Bios Naming (picture1, picture2, picture3)
In order to offer our customers the ultimate in confort and control, we went into considerable trouble to implement the bios naming and auto-naming features. By using a standardized bios, Xenium?OS has the ability to recognize and automatically name your banks for you. Even where you use a customized bios , you still have the option to manually name the bank through a virtual on-screen keyboard.

Bios Flashing (picture)
By stretching the bounds of current technology, the Xenium-OS offers you the ease of flashing your bios by either simply browsing through your HDD, or using the CDROM with a specific file( we will have a beta CDROM file browser out very soon). By simply selecting the file you want and then the bank you want to flash to, you are one push of a button away from completing the flash of your bank. Yes it?s that simple !!!

EEPROM TOOLS (picture)
The Xenium-OS comes prepacked with an inbuilt set of EEPROM tools. Apart from firstly being able to backup your VERY important eeprom data onto the onboard flash rom of the Xenium, Xenium-OS give you the ability to easily and quickly alter the following factory settings of your console:
1. Pal/Ntsc Video Mode
2. Game Region
3. DVD Region

Of course you can always restore your eeprom data from a previously saved copy ;-)
The Features mentioned above are the starting features of Xenium-OS v1.0 .. by the time the first Xenium chips reach any one of our customers we expect to have released Xenium V1.1 where we would have added some more exciting new features. The joys of having our own OS to play with are only in their infancy .

These are only a few of the major features you can enjoy immediately. Naturally there are a great deal more that we are working on and have planned for release in future Xenium OS updates. These will be available free from our site www.ozXodus.com So stay tuned!
You can now pre-order the Xenium from DIVINEO (official reseller). Expected release date 18 January 2004.

Gentoox Focus and HDTV support imminent, but kernel 2.4.24 no good
>> From ShALLaX on http://gentoox.shallax.com:
Thanks to Oliver Schwartz and a late night driver debugging session, we may see both Focus and HDTV/ X2VGA support very very soon. The console slowdown issues are gone, and the reason for the strange purple tinge has been found (a register was being set to 0x98 instead of 0x9c which meant that the conexant encoder was expecting an RGB signal instead of YCrCb). With these bugs gone, the driver should be stable and usable. I'll run some tests after I compile a new kernel with the fixes.

The bad news is that kernel 2.4.24 still has the same bug as 2.4.23, under heavy load it will suddenly Oops and complain about the journal - I'm still not sure exactly what the problem is (maybe to do with the filesystem?). I'll see what I can do about it though!

*Update*
Right now, in front of me, I have Gentoox running at 1024x768 on top of 480p on an LCD monitor with pinsharp definition, thanks to the fixed video drivers and to my X2VGA! Together with this I have a mouse and keyboard so, all in all, I'm basically sat in front of a full computer! Don't expect a patch until this weekend - maybe next because I just started University again today so I need to get settled back into the routine :/

This patch will also take a long time to develop since I need to add a lot of new stuff to xbvset, though the kernel patch is ready to go now (and it has focus support - 640x480 only!). xbvset will incorporate some code from dmp of xbox-linux which detects which video encoder type you have (Conexant/ Focus) and deliver the appropriate options. Really, a complete rewrite of xbvset is needed and this will take a lot of hard work.

I probably will add the new kernel to magic (a patched up 2.4.22) as soon as I've tested it for a while.

ExultX v1.0
>> ExultX is a SDL port of Exult, which is based upon the Ultima 7 engine.
From the readme:
First you need to get Ultima 7. Either you own it already, or you buy it somewhere. Then you must install it on a DOS/Windows machine to get the data files.
Alternatively, the 'Ultima Collection' already contains a pre-installed version of U7. (in the directory /ultima7)

The folders are already set up for you. All you need to do is copy all the files from the 'static' directories of blackgate and serpent isle, to the respective 'static' directories in this archive.

To get any real music, you will also need to download the ogg music files from ... here and here
Extract the contents of both zip files into the /data/music folder.
Regular MIDI support will be added later.

Also please download these 2 sound packs: here and here

Extract the contents of both zip files into the /data folder.

Included with the archive is an exult.cfg which has the paths setup in a nice way for the xbox. It is not advised to change the paths, unless you know what you are doing.

For any questions / info about exult, please visit http://exult.sf.net

Microsoft pushes for a million Live users
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show, Bach stated that Xbox Live is the "largest paid content service in the world", and outlined the company's target of growing from 500,000 subscriptions last June to one million subscriptions this June.
"The essence of what's happening here is that we are finding a new way for people to have social experiences," he told the audience in Las Vegas. "We're blazing new trails. The business model is new. The concept model is new. The genres of content are new. This is all green field."

However, despite the success of Xbox Live, it continues to be outstripped by the uptake of Sony's online offering, with PS2 network adapter sales continuing to grow in all major territories despite what many critics label as a disappointing line up of software so far.
Sony may also be about to steal a technological march on Microsoft's offering - with the platform holder keen to see developers using the Eye Toy webcam peripheral for online video communications.

New PlayStation, Xbox may add DVR technology
>> From arnnet.com.au:
Sony Electronics' PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox game consoles may include digital video recording (DVR) technology in future versions, panelists said during a discussion at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

Despite lagging sales, DVR would be a hot consumer technology in the future, said speakers on a panel devoted to investigating future consumer electronics products and technology trends.
In addition to Microsoft and Sony bundling DVR technology into future game consoles, cable companies would be a major player in the DVR market as they added digital video recording capability into set-top boxes, panellists said.

RSS-News v1.1.0181
>> A new version of RSS-News (formerly called XB-News(info)) has been released.
What's new/fixed:
* NEW: You can update the news or Custom content for each individual subscription from the popup menu. Previously it was all or nothing.
* BUG: When selecting to view the activity log the default pane size was very large. This has now been reset to display at the minimum size. Switching this option off, then back on will also reset to the minimum size. This bug also appeared when minimising and maximising.
* NEW: Extended the Custom Content capabilities. Previously Custom content existed of 2 HTML pages, a logo, possibly a background and some colour values. Now any amount of additional files can be added. Check the AllXboxSkins Custom content for a sample of the capabilities.
* BUG: Crash at startup caused by no subscriptions/groups being defined. Fixed.
* BUG: Some Custom Content files were not being unpacked correctly. Now fixed.
* BUG: If a webpage being viewed within the RSS-News browser had a "close" button, usually controlled by the javascript command onClick="window.close()" it would close the internal browser and then crash when another page was loaded. Now you simply get a warning message that the page cannot be closed within the RSS-News browser.
* NEW: Custom Content handling. Custom Content is simply a way of displaying news items in a colour scheme similar to the website supplying the newsfeed. This gives a way for popular sites to have a personalised identity within RSS-News. There are options to control when RSS-News will check for, and update, any Custom Content files found on the RSS-News website. You can also force a check and/or an update from the "Subscription" popup menu.
* BUG: If RSS-News was maximised the panels on the main screen were not being correctly resized if the activity log was not enabled.
* BUG: Right clicking on a site in the title panel was not working correctly. Left clicking should now open the site in the internal browser and right clicking in your external browser
* BUG: On a clean install the default group was not being created correctly so RSS-News would crash when you tried to add a subscription as there was no group to add it to.
* CHANGED: You can now select your own icon files to use with both subscriptions and groups. RSS-News will still download a favicon.ico file when subscribing to a site although you can select another icon if you prefer.
* BUG: If a favicon.ico file downloaded from a site was not in a valid format it would cause a crash. RSS-News now checks that the icon file is actually a valid format before attempting to use it.
* NEW: As the program now allows a user to enter their own RSS newsfeeds I felt that the name XB-News was not right anymore since the scope of feeds available extended much further than just console sites, so for this reason I decided to rename the program RSS-News.
* BUG: Typo in settings/preserve NEW... help text
* CHANGE: Text/method for updating the time interval to update a subscription.
* NEW: When adding a new subscription the list will be automatically expanded so you can view the new news immediatley
* CHANGE: The icons for the NEW/READ/UNREAD list items has changed to all envelopes of different colours.
* NEW: Added new tab in the "add Site" dialog which has a selection of popular RSS newsfeed sites available so they can very easily be added. The list of sites can be updated on my website by myself and you can update the list on your system with a built in update feature also found on the new tab.
* BUG: The AUTHOR tag was missing from the default new item display page.
* NEW: Support for Windows XP styles. This does nothing to change the ay in which the program runs, it just makes it look better on a Windows XP system!
* NEW/BUg/CHANGED: Lots of different things have changed mainly due to a re-write of approx 70% of the existing code. The major changes are listed above.

CES 2004 Day2 - VIA's new Gaming Console
>> Anandtech.com posted an introduction to the ApeXtreme with new info and picture of this new 'console'.
Here's a part of the conclusion:
So how does the ApeXtreme play? The two games we saw running were Rogue Squadron and Madden 2004. Rogue Squadron ran fine but Madden 2004 was far from smooth, while we couldn't get confirmation of the resolution it was running at we'd assume either 640 x 480 or 800x600 given the degree of aliasing as you can see in the image below.

The ApeXtreme won't replace your Xbox and it won't ruin PC gaming, but what it will allow is people without a PC to enjoy PC games. How big of a market we're talking about, only time will tell, but Apex clearly views it as something worth going after. The real story behind the ApeXtreme is VIA's platform, whether it is successful in Apex's case or not doesn't matter - if they fail, another manufacturer can just as easily give it a try.
