New tutorial
>> [Plagued] sent us a cool tutorial that explains how you can install a USB adapter at the back of your xbox.
You can read it here
This Mod requires a little more work than just replacing one of the front ports, but it doesn't sacrifice any joypad ports.
You'll need - Blanking plate USB adapter, soldering iron, wire, a dremmel or similar and an optional small pin strip.

Microsoft: No Xbox for You!
>> From slashdot.org :
According this this story in the Sydney Morning Herald, Microsoft is very concerned about a man having been acquitted after allegedly selling modified chips that allow an Xbox to play Sony PS2 games. So concerned in fact, that they are saying: change the law, or they will have to reconsider selling the Xbox in Australia. Not selling the Xbox is well within their rights, but putting it in a (I paraphrase slightly) "change the law or we'll .." context seems assuming a bit too much. I guess well see how many of our MPs are XBox gameheads.
Ignore the "that allow an Xbox to play Sony PS2 games" part ... I didn't write it , it's a quote from slashdot

They also released more info about FBAx beta2 :
After the sad demise of Xboxhacker I just thought I would post a little update on Beta 2 to try and cheer everyone up.
Things that have been added or fixed so far by Lantus and Myself:
* Per player button layout configuration and controller type selection
* .ini support - now saves the config of various things and should allow you to change the rom search path eventually
* Gigawing sprite fix
* Some code cleanup
There are other features planned but they might have to wait until Beta 3.

Xbox MediaPlayer 1.0 *updated*
>> Some people mailed me and told me about Xbox MediaPlayer 1.0 found on #xbins.
As far as I know this is just the compiled program of the sourcecode of XBMP (called v1.0) that has been released some days ago.
It *should* be just like XBMP Beta6 , but with cleaned up code.
UPDATE: People mailed me it's more then just clean code, it has a limited ISO9660 support, little SVCD (MPEG-2) support, better DivX 5.02 b-frames handling and such.
Thanks to Shadow_Mx & Jason for mailing me this info
XBMP is now being futher developped under open source , you can find more info here[sourceforge.net]

Parata : Parallel - ATA
>> A new great Project by Numbnut!
Parata (Parallel - ATA) hooks a PC to another PC or other 'target' device using ATA (eg, Xbox), and emulates the ATA command protocol in real time. This is typically used to make an ISO file on the PC appear to be present on the ATA connector of the target in an emulated HDD, CD or DVD.

XboxMediaPlayer goes OpenSource
>> From xboxmediaplayer.de :
Open Sourcing...
Hey here's an update on our work on the first public official, non-leaked release. We've registered the sourceforge project and I'm playing around with configuring it. However there's not much there yet. (That'll change!)
On another note, and this is one I have to address myself, our friends the GPL zealots are complaining that the win32 build in the download section is violating the GPL because it does not contain sources.
The win32 player on this site does not contain ANY GPL source code. I should know since I wrote the codec completely from scratch reverse engineering the divx 3.11 bitstream myself. The switch to ffmpeg happened when RUNTiME and I joined forces. I'm quite pround of my codec. Although it didn't support nearly the range of codecs that ffmpeg does and it didn't even support divx 3.11 as well as ffmpeg does it was about 20-25% faster than ffmpeg, using some unique optimizations.
Interestingly enough I have maintained the win32 build myself as a form of unit testing new features in the player and when I upload the cvs sources to sourceforge, anyone will be able to download and build it. I don't distribute a current win32 build for obvious reasons.
However, again to reiterate, we have never updated the win32 build on this site since we began using open source codecs. The win32 build on this site is horribly out of date, uses my own custom codec which didn't support much and doesn't run on most machines.
Of course, the gpl zealots will probably claim that this is all a lie/conspiracy/whatever and they're entitled to their opinions, however incorrect they may be. It all becomes moot when the source is released.

Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft vs. Lik Sang
>> From lik-sang.com :
At September 16th a lawsuit against Lik Sang International Limited and it's directors has been filed in the High Court of Hong Kong by the companies Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft on infringing on copyrighted material and selling Mod Chips or other development and backup devices for the Plaintiffs consoles.
At September 17th, the High Court of Hong Kong issued Orders and Injunctions against Lik Sang which prevented selling or advertising Mod Chips (and other products in questions). The details outlined in those Injunctions took Lik-Sang.com and the company with more than 20 full-time employees "down" - business was officially closed till today. Lik Sang and it's employees couldn't even speak about the case due to an injunction of the High Court.
Lik Sang International Limited has removed all the products in questions from it's website and started it's business operation again by Tuesday, October 15th. Un-shipped orders will be processed in due course and the first shipments are scheduled to dispatch by November 1st. Customers with unshipped orders will receive emails with shipping & or cancellation information in the meantime. New orders are welcome.
Please note that Lik Sang International Limited has always sold the products in questions with the legitimate use in mind and the products haven't been considered as illegal. All the Court Orders have been issued before hearing a single word from the company. However, Lik Sang is not committed on selling the questioned products in the future.

Xbox sales in Japan still very low
>> These are the Japanese console market shares :
Period : September 30 2002 - October 06 2002
PlayStation 2 41.67%
Game Boy Advance 37.20%
GameCube 12.79%
PSone 3.10%
SwanCrystal 2.36%
Xbox 2.21%
WonderSwanColor 0.67%
No real change for the last few months ... ps2 still strong #1 and xbox has still extremely poor sales.
I don't have independant sources for EU & US weekly sales , but Xbox is for sure doing better here ...

LPC^2 stands for Low Parts Count LPC programmer. It is a programming cable connected between a PC parallel port and a PCB containing a LPC flash SST49LF020. There are no PCB to make and difficult components to find. It would even let you reuse the PCB containing the LPC flash on the motherboard.
Note: This hardware is not compatible with CheapLPC nor Milk.exe. :(

X-ecuter hatemails
>> From x-ecuter.com :
Well well well, this morning we counted 112 hate mails from owners of Xodus because they thought we would make our kernel anti-xodus. First of all that was just a little joke to rattle your cages - of course it will work in Xodus - however can we remind you 112 people that we do not have to do this and you should be grateful that there are people out their willing to put their necks on the line to bring you these types of developments. Perhaps it will also make you step back and realise it is not Xodus or any other non-kernel based mod that hacks anything on your Xbox. Your product is simply a "tool" - you could even call it just a programmer - and that's it. Without a kernel that works that's all you have and nothing more. So maybe in future you may show a little more respect to the kernel makers and modders like ourselves, evox and superfr0.

More X-ecuter news
>> Team X-ecuter announced 3 (yes 3!) new modchips.
For those that like 100% fix points there will be mods that need soldering , for those that can't solder there will be mods with pogo pins (like Xodus).
All the new mods will also be flashable via xbox software (evox & own x-ecuter software).
They will also make the first retail modchip with a multi-bios (flash several images on the mod and select via a switch which bios you want to use).
Great news! Read below for more info ...
From x-ecuter.com :
We would like to announce the following three designs in progress. The names of these mods have not been decided so without trying to cause any confusion we have labelled them accordingly with the Xecuter brand. Designs A and B will probably be released as different versions of Xecuter2 and design C will be released as a different brand due to the fact it will be released with no MS kernel.
Xecuter (A)
Design as Xecuter v1 (1 wire)
All Xecuter Kernel functions on both v1 and v1.1 Xbox models
v1 = Xecuter 4034 Kernel / v1.1 = Xecuter 4817 Kernel
256k Flash updateable using EvoX Beta Build 1.8.2812
512k Flash updateable using Xecuter software (EvoX should add support too)
Once installed it stays installed - no need to ever remove
All switch modes external to the console so no need to open up again
Xecuter (B)
Design as Xecuter but with Pogo Pins so NO wires.
All Xecuter Kernel functions on both v1 and v1.1 Xbox models
v1 = Xecuter 4034 Kernel / v1.1 = Xecuter 4817 Kernel
256k Flash updateable using EvoX Beta Build 1.8.2812
512k Flash updateable using Xecuter software (EvoX should add support too)
Once installed it stays installed - no need to ever remove
All switch modes external to the console so no need to open up again
Xecuter (C)
Completely new design
10 Wire adapter or 0 wire pogo Pin Adapter
Flash updateable and controllable via PC
Xecuter's own DOS & Windows Software
Flash updateable using EvoX Beta Build 1.8.2812
Xecuter's own flash software with many more features
Switch between 4 x 256k ROMS / 2 x 256k & 1 x 512k ROM / 2 x 512k ROMS / 1 x 1MB ROM
Once installed it stays installed - no need to ever remove
All switch & programming modes external to the console so no need to open up again
Note: Hopefully all the lamers who say Xecuter sucks ass we love Xodus will boot their xodus on a v2 and wonder why the f*** their machine is booting an Xecuter kernel and not an Xodus kernel ;) (mmm wait a minute perhaps we can do some CRC so it wont work with the Xodus LPC Flash, that'd be fun!)

Flashing Cheapmod & Xodus via Evox
>> I just tried out to flash Xodus/Matrix via EvolutionX and I can confirm it's working fine.
Just put a 256k bios in c:\bios\ (if u run evox from HD) or in subdirectory \bios\ if you run it from CD.
Go to "System Utils" > "Flash BIOS" (standard location) in Evox , select your bios , and it will take like 5secs to flash your new bios on the LPC mod.
If the Xodus is not in MODE4 you will not be able to flash it , so the "protection" is working fine
This will only work with Cheapmod & Xodus/Matrix.
