New Release: extract-xiso v1.4
>> What's new (since v1.2 - I missed v1.3):
* v1.4 adds support for FreeBSD and an optimization to the runtime memory usage.
* v1.3 is a maintenance release only--fixed a critical bug in the offset calculation that was causing a core dump on a few xiso's. Should work fine on all xiso's now.

New Release: Mxm Xml Editor *Alpha*
>> From TotalEcl on forums.xbox-scene.com:
[QUOTE]
I decided to try and finish the app that I was working on. I have got it to the point when it can interpret everything in the MXM file and recognize all of the items (at least the one that I have). There is an item limit of 200 but I doubt anyone has an item list bigger than that. If some people could test out what I have so far and let me know if there are any bugs or things I have left out from the xml file that would be appreciated. It is coded in vb6 so make sure you have the runtime files. This app won't be needed when the next MXM comes out, but oh well. I should have the app fully done (reading, writing, creating new files, inserting items, and deleting items) in a few days.

Microsoft's X-Rated Problem
>> From fool.com:
[QUOTE]
While Microsoft managed modest gains in most of its businesses, one line item stands out like a Mac user at a Bill Gates Fan Club meeting. Its Home and Entertainment division suffered a steep 42% drop during the period. How can a company manage to grow revenue in iffy segments such as software and online subscriber services but fail to make headway in something as seemingly recession-resilient as home and entertainment?
What's the problem? It's in the game. This shortcoming is weighing heavily on the shoulders of the struggling Xbox video game console. While no one expected things to go smoothly as the company pit itself against Sony and its global installed PlayStation2 user base of roughly 50 million consoles, this hurts.

Dreamix Update
>> The guys over at Dreamix just updated their development website:
[QUOTE]
2 Months? Yes. Did project die? I kid you not, no! We dropped off radar for one reason: privacy. After being slashdotted and getting so much attention, we had too many eyes looking upon us. We do not want to release too much sensitive information to public yet. But on another note, we would like to let everyone know, we have PVR recording and streaming directly to Xbox now in real-time using MPEG-2. We are working on other codecs, user interfaces, SDKs. For the people who laughed, you soon will not. And for the people who said it was impossible to support multiple platforms, well you were just wrong. Our cross platform SDK has been stable on the following platforms (yes they have been tested and compiled):
* Win 32 - MS VC++ & Borland CBuilder
* Linux (x86) - GCC 3.2 & GCC 2.95
* Xbox-Linux (x86) - GCC 3.2
* Mac OS X
Also the beta test has not started yet. We have picked winners but no emails have been sent out. They will be emailed out as soon as beta test does start.

GentooX overscan fix
>> From ShALLaX:
[QUOTE]
The overscan problem is what causes text to be cut off around the edge of the screen. This script will fix the issue for the current session along with all future reboots.
This fix works both for Xfree and for console mode! The only downside is that since the image is being resampled, the picure quality is rediced somewhat (harder to make out small text, but its a small price to pay!!).

Xbox likely to fall short of key sales target
>> From theregister.co.uk:
[QUOTE]
Sales figures for the Xbox are likely to fall over a million units short of Microsoft's goal of selling nine million units by June unless the company cuts the price drastically, according to the latest research from market analysts.
According to Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbrush Morgan securities, Microsoft is likely to miss this sales target by a significant margin - with a realistic estimate of worldwide sales for the console sitting at between 6.5 and 6.6 million units.
Microsoft will announce its quarterly results tomorrow, and although the company is expected to post a significant profit as usual, all eyes in the games industry will be on the results from the Home and Entertainment Division, which houses the Xbox project.

Could Doom 3 be a Xbox Exclusive?
>> From gamepro.com:
[QUOTE]
An article in the current issue of Wired magazine confirms what a lot of gamers were suspecting already: Microsoft is actively courting id Software for the exclusive console rights to Doom III. According to the article a feature on current developments in the jaw-dropping PC FPS—the company behind the Xbox is offering an undisclosed amount of money to id in exchange for the right to make their latest game an Xbox-only title as far as consoles are concerned. (It'd still come out on the PC, of course.)
The folks at id reportedly haven't made a decision on the matter yet—it seems a reasonable enough assumption (lead programmer John Carmack has made comments in the past that seem to show a preference for the Xbox), but we'll see how it turns out. The PC game will likely be playable at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next month in Los Angeles.
