New project: BlackStormX
>> From blackstormx.com:
Team tHc started the ball rolling, making amazing strides in added functionality and paving the way for other developers...much props to them for their hard work. But to clearify, this dash is NOT being worked on in anyway by tHc members.
BlackStormX is the next iteration of msdash hacking. BSX is an alternative interface for the current msdash made to resemble the "beta" dash seen in the REZN8 video. However, this dash is more than just an advanced skin. A tremendous amont of time has been spent adding new features to the dash which will include:
* "beta" dash UI
* All new menu system to replace the music menu with subs
* System Info Display (HD space hack by fuck_db)
* Idiot- Proof Config Panel
* Skinning support with our own BSX indash autopatcher
* LED color switching
* Screensaver
* New Music Manger

We are all working hard to get this release out by the end of the month. Check in for updates.

XR8D RS3 Summer Championship on XLink Kai - The results
>> From TD on teamxlink.co.uk:
After 5 hours of pretty intense play, we have a winner. The XR8D Armada team edged out a damn fine DK team to win by 2 points. Equally talented teams from SS and RR came in 3rd and 4th. We've got a little interview with the winners below, but before that I'd just like to thank the XR8D guys - especially the tourney marshalls - for putting on an awesome event. The presentation and execution of this tourney, for such a large set of teams, was outstanding. Thanks also to every single person who played in the tourney - hope to see you all again soon.

Finally, for those of you who are stupid enough to follow the gaming fortunes of TeamXLink - we lost *every single match* in our division 2-0 - apart from one - where the other guys didnt show up. As a great man once said: 'Back of the net!'.
Go read the interview with the winning team on teamxlink.co.uk.

Gueux'Net Debug Bios 256k Focus or Conexant
>> From Team Gueux'Net (translated from french):
Yes, finally it's here!
After several weeks (months?) that we announced them we're proud to present you our 256k Debug Bios for Conexant or Focus.
A lot of thing have delayed these bioses (Xbox v1.6 and others projects) and we didn't want to release only the bios with Conexant support.

This pack contains 2 bios (depends which video encoder you have: Focus or Conexant).
As reminder:
Conexant = Xbox v1.0 to v1.3
Focus = Xbox v1.4 (and v1.5)
The support for Xbox v1.6 (Xcalibur) will come later.

These bioses being a first and even if we've tested them, we advise to use them only with a modchip that you can reflash. For the moment (waiting feedback) don't flash TSOP with.

Features:
- 256k of course
- Eject Fix
- XDK not necessary, if you don't have it, bios will boot on :
* c:\evoxdash.xbe
* c:\xboxdash.xbe

Don't hesistate to post your feedback on X-S or on our forum.

Microsoft's Rush To Xbox 2 A Danger?
>> From 'Game Boy' on games.slashdot.org:
Brit games business site Gamesindustry.biz has posted a fascinating editorial asking whether Microsoft is about to shoot itself in the foot over Xbox 2 by rushing to launch the console years ahead of its rivals' next-generation platforms. It's a pretty good analysis of how Microsoft is thinking about this marketplace, and why they could be pretty drastically wrong - I work at a major games publisher, and a lot of people here are worried about exactly the same things, but it's rare to see anyone actually discussing them openly. Xbox has done pretty well so far, but Microsoft could be heading for a disaster that even Bill's billions won't dig them out of...

Review: EasyBuy2000.com’s X-Chip w/ Solderless Adapter

Buy Now: www.easybuy2000.com $59.00 combo with Adapter

What the retail package contains:

When a customer orders just a X-Chip this is what is shipped.

1-X-Chip
1-USB programmer
1-Wire linker
1-Pin Header

When a customer orders a X-Chip combo this is what is shipped.

1-X-Chip
1-USB programmer
1-Wire linker
1-Solder-less adapter (new design)
1-Bag of rivets that include 10 rivets and 1 replacement screw.
1-Pin header

Note: No Washers ship with either product.. as none are needed now.

Well.. here is my ‘first’ of two reviews. (you’ll understand by the end of this review why)

Some of the staff received samples 5 days ago but this is the first official review of the chip. A review would have been done sooner.. but there was a few circumstances preventing it.

First.. the sample package as shipped.. was missing the bag of rivets, pin-header, and replacement screw. Second delay was the Official Installation Guides and XControl Software was not publicly available either.

EB2K quickly couriered the missing parts so that I could get this review done in a timely fashion. (helps that I’m local!) During the delay.. they also managed to get the Xcontrol USB Flashing Software and the Solderless Guide up and available to the public on their site. (Pin-header Solder Method Guide still not available.. however.. following the Chamelone Pin-header guide serves as well.)

So.. now after nearly a week of delays, missing parts, and dealing with a broken camera.. I’ve manged to finally sit down to attempt an installation. Since this was a full Solderless Package I figured I would install it and test it using that method.

Using 2 XBOX units.. a 1.1 and a 1.3 units I had handy I proceeded to prep them for the installation. Prep included cleaning the LPC holes, and Topside D0 with alcohol. Using the supplied rivets, screw, and solderless adapter I attached the adapter to the motherboard. Installed the chip onto the pins of the adapter as directed by their guide, and attempted to boot the unit. FRAG. (Flashing Red and Green)

Same install on the other XBOX.. using the same method.. proved just as fruitless.

Having other chips handy.. I was able to determine that the X-Chip Solderless Adapter was making good and proper contact with each XBOX it was used on.. as it booted Chameleons and Xeniums perfectly fine and without trouble.

Cpoc/EasyBuy2000 was extremely helpful and worked with me to troubleshoot this situation. It was determined via pictures and videos I provided.. that the Chip was likely somewhat defective.. as it appeared the it’s female connectors were simply not making the proper contact with the X-Chip Solderless Adapter. This is a situation he was able to duplicate on his end.. but with less fatal results.

I found that the Chip, when properly installed onto the pins of the adapter could be rocked back and forth to a degree that leads me to beleive that the fit of the chip and solderless adapter wasn't tested as much as the fit of the pin-header and chip.. which is quite snug and secure. Example video: Rock and Roll connection (avi)

So.. with the X-Chip Sample currently in my possession apparently defective.. I cannot finish a proper hardware review of this chip. EB is couriering out replacements samples so sometime next week I should be able to write a follow-up review.

I’d like to take a moment and discuss the adapter. It appears to be superior in design to previous solderless adapters. It’s far more rigid, a proper metal washer for the screw hole (likely overkill.. but can’t hurt). The ‘teeth’ appear to be strong.. solid.. and the springs seems to always spring back and didn’t pop any teeth out. With or without rivets.. the units stays secure to the motherboard providing a good and reliable connection. (that fact.. test with other chip like Chameleon and Xenium on the X-Chip Adapter.. since we didn’t get the X-Chip to function properly) For more info on my view on the X-Chip Solderless Adapter check my Pre-Installation Review.

Something else worth noting.. the relative thickness and rigidity of the PCB used. Feels thick and strong.

Since I was never able to get their Cromwell(info) to boot.. so I was unable to see their bootup screens. However.. I was able to use their flash control software and have nothing but good things to say about it.

To flash the X-Chip via the included USB adapter/dongle, simply connect an appropriate A/B USB cable to the unit.. and plug into a pc. Then.. follow the on-screen prompts / XControl Software Install guide to install the software and USB drivers. USB Driver Install

Once it is all installed.. and you run the software.. you are presented with a clean interface.. that doesn’t require much explaining or thought to use. It’s pretty dummy proof. Dummy Proof Interface

With the software.. you have a lot of banks to play with.. more than you’ll likely ever need. Here.. you can also set key buttons that will boot your BIOS of choice. Writing/Flashing

The software detects the chip quickly.. and performs a full 4MB write in about 2 minutes or less. It also was able to upsize BIOS files.. so if you wanted a 256k one in a 1 meg slot.. it handled the chore for you.

POSITIVE:
+ Xcontrol Software was easy to install and use
+ Flawless USB control and flashing/backup
+ Solderless Adapter appears to be the best currently available.(rigid and strong)
+ pin-header and solderless solutions provided.. best of both world.
+ Thickness of the PCB
+ EB2K tech support

NEGATIVE:
- Package shipped minus essential parts. (quickly remedied though)
- Software and guides were not available at time of product release (partially remedied)
- Sample Chip that shipped was partially defective.

I’ll follow-up this review when the replacement review samples arrive.

FileBooster

What?
Simple FTP client capable of pushing files to the Avalaunch(info) dashboard (or other xbox software compatible with avalaunch's boostmode) at blazing speeds of 10-11 mb/sec. Now you can upload your AVI's, JPG's, MP3's or whatever you like with boostmode.
This little application was prototyped and developed in less than 2 hours so don't judge it too hard if it has bugs or are missing features.
Why?
Qwix(info) clearly is lacking this feature so this is released to fill the gap until Qwix has this feature.

Future features
If I do make updates to the application, it could be things like:
* Avalaunch autodetect.
* FTP browser.
* Download files with boostmode.
Open sourcing the application is also an option if other programmers what to take over. Application was written in Delphi using Indy Components 9.
As you might have noticed,this website hasn't been updated in the past. Well,this has one main reason: I'm learning for several important exams which will be in a month.I think you agree with me that this forces me to take a little coding break. Once my exams are finished,i'll be back again,with 2 projects:
1. I'm planning to code a game similar to JnBX (with weapons and other gimmicks) from scratch. This game will(as always) use the SDLx library.
2. The website needs definately another design. Check back from time to time to see the results.

Xecuter3 beta shipped
>> From Team Xecuter:
We are pleased to inform you that the first samples of X3 have shipped to our list of "preferred" testers. This version has no i/o support and will include about 90% of the final Bios functions. We will be counting on a great deal of feedback to see success stories and also to see what bugs and requests for change need to be addressed.

The final X3 will now have 16 I/O ports to support a multitude of future add-ons. We have developed a Parallel LCD interface which will require no soldering and will simply be plug n play. This will be deveoped in time for the final version. We are also currently developing a 320x200 LCD system - stay tuned!
We have also successfully implemented the new HDD upgrade function. It's so fast and simple to use - boot X3 with new HDD, select New HDD Upgrade (you can also set your LBA48 settings on the fly) - Your drive is partitioned and ready to FTP at upto 11,000 kb/sec in less than 5 seconds (This is included in the beta trials).
The hardware info section now has an Xbox version checker & video encoder checker - including the new Xcaliber.
Another new feature is the User Selectable Startup Logo. Instead of it saying XECUTER3 or MICROSOFT you can have any logo you wish - n color too! Now the great thing about our new version is that before you had to manually convert the bmp image to raw data using some dos app - our new bios will convert it to raw format on the fly so all you need to upload to your xbox is xecuter3.bmp :)
The new FTP Bios Loader is brilliant. You simply FTP into your Xbox - select the admin folder and you have 4 options - 2048k, 1024k, 512k and 256k. If you have a 1MB (1024k) bios which is the size of the X3 bios - simply open up the 1024k folder. You then get two more folders Banks1234 and Banks5678. Choose which bank set you wish to store the bios and upload. Your bios is flashed and verified in seconds :)
These are just a few of the many, many USEFUL and FUN features you will be playing with.

neXgen beta 2 news and site news
>> From Team XboxOpenSource:
Beta 2 of neXgen(info) is coming along very nicely indeed! The beta2 is going through many daily builds as bugs are fixed and new features are tested along the way. Remember if you want to become a nexgen beta tester you can simply join #n3xg3n (on EFNET) and either my self or sp0ok will give you FTP details for you to download the current beta.
The latest build of nexgen so far was compiled on the 7th of the 6th. I can’t tell you what has been improved since there is no change log and I guess most of the features would like to be kept under wraps anyway. However you can be rest assured that we will get as many bug fixes as possible done before the final release of beta2.
We can tell you that fog is coming soon, and will improve the look of nexgen by a mile. Though it is proving difficult. The web server is also being improved, we are changing the colour scheme on this and hope to add some interesting features, but first we want to get the main things working top notch, our dashboard.

On the web site side of things, well there have been a few improvements here and there. Forums scrolling block added to display the last twenty new threads, a total hits block and an Easyup module.
The Easyup module allows you to upload your skins and files, and then you can email or post the download link in the forum. If it’s a skin you could post the link in our forum and we will add it to the download section. This will be automated soon, but I was asked to put a better upload script on the web site.
I have fixed a horrible bug in our php-nuke oriented web site. I added two lines of code to our administration page to stop the type of hacks that happened on the Gentoox web site and also on the Xecuter site.
However I am thinking of upgrading our nuke set-up to the latest. However I’ve got to get my development server (heh this is were Gentoox comes in handy) so I can test the upgrade routine on this first.
After I’ve done this in the next few weeks I will be adding some more interesting features to the site, meanwhile stay tuned for beta2 (no ETA as of yet).

Xbox successor in November 2005?
>> From xbox.ign.com:
The tentatively codenamed "Xbox Next" or "Xbox 2" is set to receive a name revision before its release because Microsoft doesn't want consumers to assume it's inferior to PlayStation 3 based on end numerals, hasn't yet been given an official release date. But just because Microsoft isn't yet talking doesn't mean developers working on early "Xbox 2" development setups are so keen to keep quiet.
A major software company already prototyping software for Microsoft's "Xbox Next" told IGN today that the publisher "definitely aims to launch the console in North America for Christmas 2005." A November time frame was given. A European release will follow in 2006, said the source.
IGN contacted another software firm working currently working on "Xbox Next" software, who seconded the news. "Let's put it this way: A lot of developers crunching to get their games ready for a 2005 launch will be really pissed if Microsoft doesn't get it out by then."

Xenium X-SorEase
>> From Team OzXodus:
Announcing the launch of Xenium X-SorEase:
Being the multi-faceted and multi-talented team that we are, our Hardware department has been hard at work on some new and exciting additions to the OzXodus/Xenium product line, to coincide with XOS2. The new OS has opened up many possibilities and so much potential that we have decided to brand a new range of accessories for you, the customer, to make your experience with the Xenium all the more exciting.
Products in our X-SorEase section will be many and varied, including our own unique and greatly improved USB adaptor, for use with XOS2's USB pen drive and peripherals support, specially designed wire-looms and daughter boards for various applications including external LED, multi-function adapters, and more. Our focus for this new line is, of course, Ease of installation, Ease of use, and Ease of expandability. To wet your appetites, here is something you might find fun and interesting....

Xenium Xternal LED
As you may have noticed in our previous videos, one of our accessories is the dimmable Xternal LED.
Xbox-Scene

While it is designed to discretely: image2
Hide under the front panel it can Easily be daisy chained with multiple LEDs: image3
To give a very powerful multi-color illumination effect: image4 - video1
Since the colors are controlled through the Xenium's dedicated software controlled expansion port, the only limitation to the use and benefits of this simple add on is your imagination!!
The above video features 10 Xternal LED's linked together and placed inside a crystal box: image5
The installation was done in a matter of minutes and of course there was no soldering what so ever :-)

USB adaptor:
Xbox-SceneXbox-Scene

Very simple yet far more secure and practical to use than any of the other no-wire adaptors. If any of you have tried out the competing design(s) you will quickly appreciate why we are so proud of this simple feat of ingenuity.
Both these products will be available early next week.

Avalaunch 0.49
>> A new version of Avalaunch(info) dashboard has been released!
What's new/fixed (yes ... it's huge :-)):
ACAM / APOD
* Checks for parental settings and disables feature totally if set ( it does still allow online skins though - as they are not hosted or controlled by Team Avalaunch )
* Made Avalaunch friendlier to booting from DVD, since obiously it can't download images from the net to the dvd - it uses Z: instead.
* Made a setting allowing apod/acam to store what it downloads into localpics (see Localpics section for details) for offline usage later.
* Rewrote major parts of the ACAM/APOD engine to make it more configurable.
* Fixed some rare ACAM crashbugs.
AUDIO
* Some odd MP3 streams caused the engine to detect the wrong values, so we made a an "auto-adjuster" that recreates the stream with the correct values.
* Fixed playback of small WMA's that would appear looping.
* Fixed a major problem regarding subdirectories in playlists.
* Fixed some more core issues in the MPEG engine.
BOOT
* Added possibility of having a bootup logo (\bootimage.png if you don't want the embedded JPG).
* Automatically detects the need for repartitionning and full format. Optional ofcourse.
* Rewrote parts of network initialization so that it's less demanding on network on boot (shouldn't care if network interface is locked).
* Fixed some issues in Quickstart that could occur now and then.
* Fixed the main problem we've had with Quickstart; that it would only work in port 1. Works in all ports now.
CORE
* Added 'Kålbæks (tm)' (callback hooks for the menu system to you Norwegian-word-pun-impaired people)
* Did a rewrite that allows you to boot with a unformatted harddrive.
* Fixed the X/Y/Z mount problem.
* Enabled harddrive locking.
EEPROM
* Fixed all known issues regarding EEPROM writing (loop-tested a few thousand videomode switches without any differences in the EEPROM).
* Added a "master lock" for EEPROM writeback access that will refuse any EEPROM access unless the user explicitly grants permission.
* Added an extra security that denies all access to EEPROM if the harddrive is locked.
* Found some very friendly and safe methods to let the kernel do all the CRC calculations for us. It also checks that all checksums are correct along with valid videomodes and mac address and some other important values. Avalaunch will restore a backup right away if any wrong values are detected.
FONTS
* Fonts are now checked if they got to Z: before loading them from there (will load from default location otherwise).
FTP
* Fixed the filename clipper so you can in theory upload files with names that exceed 42 characters.
GAME EXTRAS
* Added XR8D's Rainbow Six 3 map downloader system for homebrew maps. Thanks guys - this is only the beginning =) (hint: START on rainbow six after enabling it in settings).
* Added a check routine to make sure you always have the latest map installed.
* Added a queue system that allows you to select several maps for download at once (although it will download one-by-one).
GAMES
* Added a function to delete saved data like LIVE downloads due to popular demand.
USER INTERFACE
* Added some options to deny ava to use 720p and 1080i (SniperKil request)
* Added support for overlay PNG's that will be rendered on top of the background. Copy it to the current skin directory and call it "overlay.png".
* Fixed flickering in the overlay engine at boot.
* Made it possible to disable all popups - and only get popups if there is a major error (possible to disable that too though).
HTTP ENGINE
* Rewrote parts of the HTML engine regarding downloads and timeouts. Should be conceived as much faster and more accurate now.
* Fixed a major stream problem.
* Added a progress counter/a bit more feedback to the user.
* Fixed some issues regarding 404 errors as well as issues with the occational misparsed URL.
* Small fix, it will allow local files now - it'll just "fake" downloading the file.
XLINK KAI
* Wrote library from scratch to cooperate with xlink KAI evo 7.
* Added new commands to do stuff like tell the number of people in the vectors.
LOCALPICS
- Made it possible to use a file called "forward" containing new path like f:\familyalbum (no "\" termination).
APPLICATIONS
* If network settings locates downloadservice.txt, it will open the URL in that file and allow applications to be downloaded directly from a webserver. See the specifications in the xbox-scene forums on how to use this feature.
* Added basic support for the "common" parameter system we located on xports systems, also added a XBMC autodetect for this so when xbmc adds parameter passing support it will automatically start media files when you click on them.
SAVEGAMES
* XBS changed servers and some issues appeared. Fixed those issues and made it speedy again.
SCREENSAVER
* Made it a bit more interesting with some 3d enviroment mapped stuff. Can be made to use your own 3d models. Simply make .x file and call it "screensaver.x". Copy it to the same directory as the Avalaunch XBE.
* Added a dynamic screensaver background that is in the skin, put a link to a picture on the web into screensaver.lnk in the selected skin and it'll show on screensaver activation.
SETTINGS
* Fixed a bug in the hardware settings that would overwrite some rather important strings.
* Added a keyboard selector to change between the 2 types available.
* Rewrote everything. Made a new UI component common for settings. This makes it ready for the new UI when it gets there (huge rewrite).
* Added HDTV options (as found in Microsoft's dashboard).
* Added code for initializing HDTV modes, and "revert" code that will restore previous mode if you don't approve.
* Made a bit more interesting temperature log.
* Rewrote network settings and put SNTP into it while at it.
* Changed the languages layout a little.
* Added mono/surround/DTS/AC3 options into AV settings.
* Rewrote parts of Quickstart settings.
* Added some screensaver settings to options.
SKINNING
* Made a separate local skin engine that browses through pics locally stored in skins\localpics\ (use for personal slideshow or something if you want).
* Rewrote the entire online/local skin selector.
UPDATE
* Added a setting in options that would make Avalaunch keep itself being the latest version without bothering the user (does not touch the XML file though).
VIDEO
* Fixed a crashbug related to screensavers and reinitialization of the videocore (PAL/NTSC runtime switching).

X3 Rox My Box challenge - voting begins and winners announced
>> From Team Xecuter:
What can we say. What an absolutley stunning response to the X3 Rox My Box Challenge. Never before have we seen such response and enjoyment out of an Xbox Scene competition. Such fun to have a weekend where a few hundred people pulled together to have a few laughs without any drama. The competition proved to us and to everyone the level of support that Xecuter has on a global scale - and it also showed the kind of people involved in the scene - absolutley nuts :)
The original plan was to give 10 Beta versions of the X3 mod to those that wouldn't normally get the opportunity to test a pre release modchip. However that figure went out of the window in the first hour. We had over 400 picture submissions and the thread had over 40,000 views over the first 24 hours. Some of the pictures were imaginative, some crazy, some funny as hell and some down right dirty :)

* Our main objective was to get a topless girl on the M$ campus wearing an xbox-scene.com T-Shirt and holding up the X3 sign. We thought it would be tough to get just one of these shots but in fact we got 2. The prize money for these shots was $1000 to the best one. Now we can go about this two ways, the public can vote for the winner OR both entrants can decide if they would like $500 each and an X3 mod. This keeps things nice and fair but it is entirely up to the two that submitted the pictures. So if MRFAUST & SIRUSDV can send me a private message using this site[teamxecuter.com] - let me know what you would like to do.

* We also have a few "Instant Winners". These are our personal favourites and also they are actual location requests that we made in the #xecuter3 channel. The winners are: Bamelementch, blackdevl, callit, donor, gcskate, keystroke, microchip, quest, rh387, scrollio, shadox, thebishop, xcel, marmite.
Well done to you guys. If you can send me a private message on this site[teamxecuter.com] with your mailing address I will get things moving for you right away.

* The other three categories are "Adult", "Landmarks" and "Funny / Others". You can vote for your favorite pictures and the Top 10 will win. Some users have submitted multiple entries - their votes will be counted. We have anti spamming scripts in place and you can only vote once per picture per ip. If we see anyone trying to spoof the voting that picture will be deleted. The judges decision is final (i.e. Xecuter) and we don't want any begging or moaning in the channels please. Remember this competition was/is for fun (and it most certainley was) let's see if we can continue the good spirit that you have all shown over the last couple of days. There are more competitions to follow shortly - some crazy and some serious and technical - we will cater to everyone.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Xbox-Scene, Avalaunch(info), XboxMediaCenter(info) & Xbins. Our co-operation and freindship will continue to drive the scene forward "ONE SCENE"
We also have a list of serious beta Testers. You guys know who you are and you can xpect your mods to arrive within the next week. We appreciate your input and support.
NOW GET VOTING !!!

Xenium OS2 Public Beta WARNING
>> From Team OzXodus:
OzXodus recommends that users wishing to try our XOS2 beta are aware that due to the nature of ACT, it is not currently possible to revert to an earlier revision of the OS after applying the 2.0 Public Beta.
This should not be a problem, as all of the basic functionality from previous revisions are present and working properly in Xenium-OS 2.0, but you should be aware that if you run into any major issues, you will not be able to recover to a previous version.
We are working overtime now to bring you new and more stable builds of 2.0 as quickly as possible.

CloneXB v2.2
>> What's new/fixed:
* Added the ability to keep the optimized layout of the files from your original XBOX disc when creating a copy from it. This should ensure the best possible loading times for your copies. It can be used when :-
] Copying an original disc or copied disc from the XBOX via FTP.
] Copying a copied disc from your local PC DVD/CD ROM drive.
] Using the 'Rebuild Existing ISO tool'.
IT WILL NOT AMAZINGLY TRANSFORM YOUR EXISTING COPIES INTO A SUPER FAST LOADING VERSION. If the source disc you are copying from is not an original or was not created using CloneXB(info) or a combination of XDVDFS_Dumper and XDVDFS_Maker then this will only keep the non-optimized layout of your source disc or ISO. Also whatever FTP server you use on your XBOX must support the EXECUTE command (Evox does) for this option to work. To enable this option just check the 'Optimize Layout' box.
* Added PASV mode support for FTP connection to your XBOX. This can sometimes help when trying to connect through a firewall. The FTP server you are using on your XBOX must support PASV aswell for this to have any effect. Check the 'PASV' box to enable this option.
* Added burning support for 'Memup IDE1008' DVD writer.

Star Wars
>> Team AfterShock just released their first homebrew Xbox game. From nfo/website:
STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE FOR HOMEBREW
Star Wars is our first group game, it supports a short story mode, and a death match of up to 4 humans and up to 8 players (bots).

Our first release. Seems decent enough to give to the people. We slaved over this for months so you better love it.
Untamed Rillas should be worth playing. Hopefully that will be out soon.
There's an md5 check on the media so that you'll know if you download a damaged version. This is the first homebrew to have 5.1 and use the XACT engine.

On a side note HSDEMONZ made a cool Aftershock banner so if you like us, put it in your sig's on all your favourite message boards.

Xbox 2 could take 30% market share - EB president
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
Industry bosses speaking at the Piper Jaffrey conference in New York have sounded notes of cautious optimism about Microsoft's next-generation plans, with EB president Jeff Griffiths saying that the system could win 30 per cent market share.
"Yes, they could get a 30 per cent share, " Griffiths told the conference, speaking about the Xbox 2 console which is widely expected to launch by late 2005. "I think if they got less than that they'd be disappointed. If they come out earlier than Sony, if they have the breadth of exclusive titles like Sony had for PS2, I think they'd definitely have potential for market share leadership."

LinksBoks 0.92 'Dr Zoidberg Edition'
>> A new version of LinksBoks(info) - a www webbrowser for Xbox - has been released.
What's new/fixed:
* Added SSL support! (*warning* read notes below).
* Reenabled Links' Javascript engine (read notes below).
* Fixed a horrible bug that was the reason for most of the lockups and freezes (sockets were staying in "blocking" mode). Expect more stability & speed from this version.
* Reimplemented the file: protocol. You can now browse your hard drive! Additionally, browsing to the "empty" URL shows up the "root" directory containing your available hard disc drives (instead of crashing :p).
* Fixed: big, non-interlaced GIF files weren't rendered correctly, for example the top banner on xbox-scene (that one was a bitch: had to turn off an "optimization" that doesn't work here).
* Rebuilded fonts, some (punctuation) characters weren't rendered.
* Added options to bypass detection of supported HDTV modes, under "User interface > Xbox-specific options > Video modes". Your can disable HDTV completely, or skip 1080i or 720p to get the mode you want. The sequence being: 1080i?->720p?->480p?->NTSC, you can (for example) get 480p by disabling both 1080i and 720p. Easy!
* Increased screen refresh rates to make mouse and scrolling a bit smoother.
* You can now change the font size quickly with up/down directions on the d-pad while in video calibration mode (Setup>Video calibration).
* You can scroll in the treeview-based dialogs (Options/Bookmark managers) using the right thumbstick or the mouse wheel.
* Upgraded to VS.net 2003 and the lastest XDK, and finally made the thing compile in Release configuration (more optimized & compact code).
* Increased max border size in the Video calibration mode from 100 to 125 (you can always go beyond that by entering the values manually in the Options)
* Various bugfixes as usual.
* Updated documentation a bit.
* A nice logo/icon, and a new Web site!

KNOWN BUGS/RELEASE NOTES for this version:
* SSL support means you can now browse HTTPS sites with an encrypted connection, but security is NOT guaranteed! More info in the README.txt file, "Is browsing SSL-enabled sites with LinksBoks secure?" section.
* Yes, Links' Javascript engine is here, but it's disabled by default as it creates more problems than it solves. Remember this engine is highly experimental and very incomplete. Don't expect it to run anything but the simplest scripts (if you're lucky). If you still want to try it, enable it in "Document > Javascript options". You might want to enable the verbose errors too as the script is "killed" at the first error.
* Didn't have time to fix the FTP protocol, sorry :/

'Revolution', Nintendo's next-generation home console
>> In the "not XBOX News Dept."
The next-generation home console from Nintendo is codenamed "Revolution," a device that will include the ability to connect up to PC monitors as well as TV sets, without the need for any additional hardware.
Putting the emphasis on gameplay, Nintendo is using existing technology in a new and exciting way in order to enhance player enjoyment. The Nintendo DS' double screen or touch sensitive panel is one such example being used in video games by Nintend.
The same philosophy will be employed on the GameCube as well with a version of Mario Party which will arrive later this year where an entirely new interface controller will be used, believed to be a camera similar to the Eye Toy product for the PS2.
The "Revolution" console, will be based on IBM's Power5 architecture and possibly ATI graphics solution.
