More about Xenium OS Update V1.1
>> From ozxodus.com:
As promised, we are back again with more details and information for you. As far as we can tell the update has been very well received and has delivered on promises made (once again) Of course, the main feature that we wanted to scream and shout about was the Instant Boot System which we took a great deal of pride and effort in. Somehow, between the release of the Beta version for testing and our final release hours later, the unofficial version was leaked and got into the wrong hands. Anyway, no use crying over spilt milk, the feature is there and is working beautifully. We have implemented stricter and tighter control methods within our own team and our beta testing friends to ensure that these types of leaks do not happen again. We are however aware that the need to fully test and verify updates with respected people in the scene is of paramount importance to the quality of our product and to ensure that we keep the high standards we demand for you, the consumer. The guarantee of this quality and properly tested software is far more important than secrecy and protectionism and therefore we will not compromise that at any price. We promised you the best and we will deliver the best no matter what. We are also very aware that competition and challenge by other teams, (sometimes smartly done and other times not so smart) is to be expected and is part of the business. We welcome competition and challenge as ultimately all that will lead to better products for you. Our major objective though is to support our loyal fans and products with innovation and dedication second to none. After all, any Xenium user does not deserve any less!! We will not be led into slinging matches about who is better, our product is out and is working well. You be the judge.
TO BE OR NOT TO BE? In conclusion we would like to say that we are working very hard for the betterment and development of a product that we promised would set a new standard in the industry. To the skeptics out there that say we may be arrogant in our attitude we would say that there is a very big difference between arrogance and pride. We do not take promises made to you very lightly and look to back them up with results. All but one of the bugs reported so far by you, the concerned consumer, have been fixed. The major concern of delays at boot up has been addressed and resolved. Exciting new features have also been added to enhance your experience but the innovation does not stop there, tomorrow we will be announcing another exciting new development, to further enhance your product. Arrogance, maybe? Pride, definitely. The proof is in the pudding! Thank you to all those that have bought and are using our product. Your support and encouragement is truly appreciated. As long as you have an original bought from an approved site all we can say is enjoy and have fun! Welcome to the family, we are proud to be associated with you and promise you continued support and innovation. Stay tuned tomorrow for more exciting news!
Thank you Team OzXodus
Message from SmartXX Team
>> From smartxx.com:
SmartXX Team NEVER released any Video Clips. Zanga = Elses is NO MEMBER of the SmartXX Team. He is just one of the Beta-Testers.
We thougt choosing a impartial Forum is a good idea, because we can´t delete any posting ! Our own Forum will be online next week, with full support !!! No kids :)
Regarding the ungoing discussing about the MCPX LPC Chip detection and the missunderstanding of the public of the real danger behind and thinking this is a joke at all, SmartXX Team has decided to invite two respected members of the xbox-scene. These two members will see the impact which it will have on the modchips and afterwards they will be sure agree with us that we should not release this at public.
We also received some images of Xbox with LCD screen installed (optional addon for SmartXX). Here it shows for example which BIOS you are using.

New/ blank HDD support in future Gentoox Stardust!
>> From gentoox.shallax.com:
Thanks to the testing efforts of Nguyflys, I think that I have come up with a way to get Stardust to initialise blank hard drives. The process (purely optional of course, which asks for double confirmation) totally erases the hard drive, initialises the partitions and finally formats them. This is a great step forward for Stardust indeed!
Please report any further incompatibilities on our message forums at http://www.ozxodus.com - EEprom Tools LED warning: Console's power LED now changes to RED when saving EEprom data as a safety measure. - Onscreen keyboard overlap with Focus chipset: Some keys were not visible when using a V1.4 or V1.5 console. - HDD Browser bug: When exiting the browser without selecting a file, Xenium-OS will not lockup anymore.
NEW FEATURES - Instant Boot (tm): The ability to instantly boot your console using the default bios and skip the Xenium-OS splash page. Once enabled in the Xenium-OS settings menu you can power on your console using the power button and boot to the default bios, otherwise press the Eject button to start your console up in the Xenium-OS. No additional hardware install wires are required for this feature!! - Onscreen Keyboard Upgrade: Symbols are now available for bios naming. - Bank LED Colors: Assign a different color of the Xenium's LED to each bios bank. Supports Partitions C,E,F,X,Y and Z. - Format Partitions: Individually format your C,E,F,X,Y and Z partitions. - Autodetection of X2 4981 series bioses. - IR Support: You can navigate the Xenium-OS with your IR remote control using the following button mappings. Menu Navigation =============== Up,Down,Left & Right buttons = Controller's D-PAD Select or 1 buttons = Controller's A button 2 buttons = Controller's B button 3 buttons = Controller's X button 4 buttons = Controller's Y button Additional QuickStart buttons ============================= Menu button = Controller's White button Back button = Controller's B button 0 button = Controller's Black button
KNOWN BUGS - When two devices are inserted into both memory card slots on a single controller, Xenium-OS navigation is not possible. To resolve this problem simply remove one device. Fault confirmed with 2 x memory cards as well as 1 x memory card and 1 x voice communicator. - Controller button sensitivity may vary depending on what controller combinations are installed into what ports. - Failure to boot Original Bios, this bug has been documented on our forums although at this point we have not been able to simulate the fault. We suggest that if you experiance this problem that you use a bios bank to enter the MS Dashboard and confirm your date and time settings are correct, thus far this is the most effective way to rectify the problem. Tsunami of new features hitting Xbox Live
>> From gamespot.com:
In a series of low-key e-mails to games-press editors yesterday, Microsoft announced an upcoming group of new Xbox Live features, code-named "Tsunami." While no concrete release dates for the upgrades were given, Microsoft said they would come before the end of 2004.
While only the broad strokes of the feature set were revealed, Tsunami will sport a variety of attractive options, including: * Improved team dynamics, including enhanced intrateam messaging and challenges to rival clans both within the Xbox Live dashboard and on the Web via MSN Messenger. * Team customization features, which will allow gamers to create and share team mottos and emblems, as well as statistics, rosters, history, maps, and other content. * New custom-competition option that will let gamers build new types of contests and matches for titles that are created and administered by the publisher and/or the users. According to Microsoft, Tsunami will also contain improvements and service management and developer support.
Video and Features of new XeniumOS v1.1
>> Some people apparently managed to get an early release of the XeniumOS v1.1 beta on the official ozxodus website, but the file has been removed in meantime, probably because it wasn't fully finished yet (it wasn't announced on the news yet either). MancModder posted a video of the new XeniumOS v1.1 beta on forums.xbox-scene.com. It shows the new 'Instant Boot' feature and also how fast the new XeniumOS boots up. The video refers to the SmartXX movie (by elses) released some time ago (see news). Download XeniumOS v1.1 video: here (906KB)
Also (some of?) the new features have been posted by oblox on forums.xbox-scene.com (THESE FEATURES ARE NOT CONFIRMED BY OZXODUS!):
1)Configuration a)Settings Menu i)Instant Boot ™: (When you power on your X-Box it instantly boots your default OS - press the eject button to boot into the Xenium OS) NB The 'Display Hardware Info' section will tell you your OS version

Antipiracy law heads for EU vote
>> From zdnet.com:
The European Parliament is set to vote next week on a controversial law that would extend companies' powers to crack down on pirates and song-swappers. The proposed law, the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Directive, is primarily aimed at strengthening law-enforcement capabilities against organized piracy and counterfeiting in the European Union. But civil rights groups say its measures would criminalize previously innocuous activities, such as sidewalk entertainment and book readers for the blind.
The directive had been scheduled for a Feb. 9 vote in a plenary session of the European Parliament, but was delayed in order to hammer out a compromise. The parliament hopes to approve the directive before June, when new member states will join the EU, according to industry observers. According to European Digital Rights (EDRI), a civil liberties group, a compromise put forward by the European Commission could allow member states more flexibility in deciding the scope of the law. For example, they could limit the applicability of criminal sanctions to what are currently civil offences.
No Xbox Price Cut ?
>> From gigex.com:
People have been anticipating a price drop from either Sony or Microsoft for months. It is assumed that a price reduction by either company would cause a price reduction by the other.
Today a report was released by the New York Times claiming that Microsoft is planning on a price reduction this April. The reduction is said to drop the price of the Xbox to $150.00. Sites across the world wide web have been reporting this news today. Unfortunately for those waiting to save a few bucks on the big black box, it seems the report in the New York Times is false. Microsoft has publicly denied the reports that we would see a price reduction this April. Microsoft claims that there are no plans to reduce the console's cost.
Gentoox Sparkle + updated C/Xromwell + fixed xbvset
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
* Sparkle is a tool which can repair broken Gentoox installations automatically. More specifically, it is a reiserfs filesystem repairer. Basically, it searches for rootfs files on your Xbox, then fixes them. It is also compatible with native installations! Necessity is the mother of all invention, I broke one of my installations of Gentoox today by hard powering down (with the power switch). After creating "uglyfsck" on another Xbox, then running it on my broken Xbox and discovering it actually worked, I decided it might be useful for other Gentoox users too. So after a name change and some polishing, here it is: "Sparkle". ALWAYS read the manual. While this tool worked for me, it is not guaranteed to work for you - infact, it may make things worse. Obviously, there is no guarantee with this since it's released under the GPL. Just thought I'd add, this is based off the new Stardust with HDTV and focus support. So if you want to see if the new Stardust will work with your setup, it might be an idea to try this. Purely up to you though!
* Updated Cromwell(info) and Xromwell(info) that support HDTV and Focus. In this release, the Focus "Orange LED, fast fan, then halt" bug should have been fixed. Go grab it from here.
* xbvset was changing the initrd filename in linuxboot.cfg to "initrd" instead of "initrd.gz". This has now been fixed, go run "magic" to update! Thanks Code-X for helping out with this!
Focus support in Gentoox Stardust
>> From gentoox.shallax.com:
Nothing much interesting, just a quick word to show that I've started working on new versions of Gentoox. In preparation for a new release, I have been working on getting Focus support into Stardust. It all seems to work so far! Please don't ask me for a release date or an estimation because I'll just ignore you. I never give out dates.
*Update* I've just finished testing it on Focus, Conexant and Conexant-HDTV and it all works perfectly. This also is a milestone in Gentoox's history as it no longer uses nvnet for anything (Gentoox now totally uses the cleanroom version of the network driver called "forcedeth"). This may not mean much for some people, but for me it now makes the project totally legal since precompiled nVidia binaries are no longer being distributed with Gentoox.
From 'the joker' on forums.xbox-scene.com:
* Fixed crashbug in APOD engine, slight serverside change made it possible to avoid explanation extraction * Fixed ACAM, had too low timeout, had the possibillity of messing up some things as well as not updating itself. * Fixed some issues that remained regarding savegames and launching * made webengine more secure.
please note.. also the updater needed a tiny repair, auto-updating from .61 has gone well so far, but if you have a slow link - it might fail the download (but it should be killed by the crc-checker, so in theory it's safe to try)
Evox-t becomes the official EvolutionX trainer group
>> From dootdoo on forums.xbox-scene.com:
The Max Trainer Team (mxt) has decided to expand their operation to cover more of the xbox scene then before.
Max Trainers was initially formed by a group of individuals from the MaxConsole EvolutionX(info) Trainer forums, this group maintained their official ditribution through maxconsole's forums and web site (and xbins). In order to move ahead and open up the EvolutionX trainer scene to a larger audience, (mxt) has opted to not be affiliated with just one particular xbox forum.
Comments by dootdoo: We as a team have realized that we have limited the scenes exposure to Evolution-X trainers by just supporting one forum. Although the maxconsole.com forums (http://forums.maxconsole.net) has treated us well (we are greatly appreciative) we will actively be watching the appropriate forums on X-S and on the official Evolution-X Forums (http://forums.evolutionx.info). In order to make ourselves forum independent, we have opted to change our name to Evox-T (Evolution-X Trainers).
In other developments, we have also been selected as the official trainer group by Team EvolutionX, which should allow us to bring bigger and better trainers.
We are also in search of more dedicated trainer writers to join our ranks.
Same crew (acidflash, goku, angelfly, ddh, and dootdoo), different name, same purpose..
tHc Toolbox pre-alpha (preview edition)
>> From ZogoChieftan on xboxdash.net:
Ok I have looked into the possibilities of having a tHc Toolbox and for the first version I have developed a small scripting language allowing you to go to lines of a file, delete lines and insert lines. It isn't very much for a first release and obviously you will have to use WinXIP to get the original file but it's a start.
Ok people i'm not really happy about what i've made of this yet but all the same i've got a lot of work to do today and I did say that I would have a weekend release ready so here is a pre-alpha edition of my toolbox. Please note that I do not suggest that you use this for any reason other than testing, currently the multi-line code among many other things is screwed up so only ever insert one line in your scripts. I'll have a new release out sometime this week.
