Centipede arcade v2 released!
>> A new version of the legal build Centipede emulator has been released by _Seagal_ on the elotrolado.net BBS.

What's new? (thx to xSETHx , J.C. , Jesús Díaz Masó , Drakull , Jon & ximian who all sent me a translation of the spanish text :) )
I have implemented the correct colors as well as a random function (now the z's show up correctly), because it wouldn't let me use the ones from stdlib ( I don't know if its because of my incompetence or because it isn't linking correctly....)

Oh well, until there's a new release of the SDK I can't do anything else.

Official Site: n/a , but this thread talks about the release (in spanish).

More X-ecuter2 News
>> From Team X-ecuter:
We've just spoken to China and they have an update on prices for the pogo pin adapter package.....

X2:LITE + Pin Header Adapter + Pogo Pin Adapter Recommended Retail $45
X2:PRO + Pin Header Adapter + Pogo Pin Adapter Recommended Retail $55

These are what they recommend mod sellers on charging. Of course some will be a little more expensive and some will be cheaper, let's hope good competition gives the customers a great service. The pogo pin adapter has been designed and tested working great, they are just waiting on their shipment of mini pogo pins which have been manufactured especially for this device. They estimate delivery within the next 3-4 weeks. The mods without the pogo adapter, supplied with in our opinion the much better Pin Header Adapter will be delivered around 9th December (This SHOULD be both the LITE and PRO, but the PRO maybe a few days extra wait). Hope this makes things much clearer.

X2:LITE Information
>> Team X-ecuter released alot of information about the upcoming X-ecuter2 Lite modchip.

It looks like the PIN HEADER adaptor will be included (for free!) with each X-ecuter2. That's great news - a pin header is extremely easy for future upgrades. (you solder them 1 time and after that you can easily remove/replace/upgrade the modchip).
Ofcourse those who prefer normal wires will also be able to simply solder 10 wires.
The pogo-pin adaptor -for those who really can't solder- will be released later.
A: This socket is for two wires. Ground and the d0 onboard flash disable point. Only 1 wire needs to be soldered here as the ground point will be a screw on clip. The reason these two wires are on a separate socket is so if you connected to the board via the PIN HEADER ADAPTER (B) you would never need to solder ever again - you simple unplug. The female pins will also be included in the package.

B: This is the PIN HEADER Block. We decided to put this onto the PCB instead of a separate adapter for a number of reasons. First of course is cost. By doing this a separate adapter does not need to be manufactured and it comes as standard. You don't have to use it but at least you get the option. Using the PIN header is what we absolutely recommend. It is a far better solution than no solder pogo pins or wires. Its stable, quick and easy to install, the mod can be removed with ease and replaced in seconds. No alignment, no setting up. The main benefit is that once your pin header is fitted you NEVER need to solder ANY mod into your XBOX ever again! Pin Headers are cheap (less than $1) and can be added to ANY LPC based modchip. So once installed you can use Openbox, Matrix (Without the Pogo Pins which is a $20 less cost to you) & cheapmod. It's not just for Xecuter - its a design that should be encouraged with all LPC mods. In hind sight we feel that we should have implemented this design with Xecuter1, but that is what R&D is all about. Processing feedback, listening to customers and delivering what they ask for. We believe this is it. If other mod developers simply follow the path of using the same adapters, then only the customer benefits - they never have to worry about compatibility again.

C: This is the connector if you wish to use the wires adapter (supplied). Can also be used to connect to the pogo pin adapter - or any adapter design. We encourage third party designers to step forward and design their own addons. As long as its a good idea and good quality then we're happy :)

D: This is the mod disable jumper. The first thing we hear is that its not the best adapter to use - why not use DIP switches. The answer is simple - we want to make this as easy to use as possible. The jumper pins are not only for jumpers, but you can also add your own NON SOLDER external switch. Now can you see why we used these ? :)

E: This is the 512k Bank selector. The mod is designed to read 2 x different 512k BIOS's. This can include 2x256k or simply 1 x 512k per bank (The 2x256k will simply read as one mirrored BIOS - it is not for two different ones). Again you can add an external switch if you wish.

F: This is the Flash Protect jumper. A bit silly of us not to have added this in the beginning, so thanks to those that reminded us :) This is to protect the mod from any malicious erase or flash attempt. Again you can add an external switch if you wish.

One final note is this. It has been of some concern that if you programmed the mod with the wrong flash, or you made a mistake that it would kill the mod. Yes this is true but this is why its called LITE with less features and a much cheaper price. Most of you won't attempt to flash this anyway, and you should always be careful when doing so. However, we are designing an addon cable that will simply plug into the PIN HEADER BLOCK (B) where you can program from your PC much similar to the PRO version. This will not be available yet and will not be supplied with the mods. This will be an add-on cable (which we will probably release as HOMEBREW for free - similar version of cheaplpc but designed for 1MB flash) for those that have had an accident. I hope this makes some of you happy :)

Microsoft poised for Australian XBox Live modchip crackdown
>> From zdnet.com.au :
Microsoft Australia’s regional XBox office is issuing strong indications it plans to mimic its United States headquarters’ policy of penalising XBox owners that use mod chips in their consoles by refusing them access to XBox Live.
XBox Australia's regional director, Alan Bowman, told ZDNet Australia the local arm of XBox Live would model its service on the North American version closely and that Microsoft Australia would protect the XBox platform’s intellectual property "as much as possible".
However, Bowman stopped short of confirming or denying whether the ban policy would be followed in Australia.

...

The ACCC told ZDNet Australia it had some reservations about the importation of the Microsoft mod chip policy.
"As to whether Microsoft can refuse to deal with those consumers who have had their XBox consoles chipped depends on whether there are any indications given to the consumer prior to purchase that they will not be able to avail themselves of certain services if they use the equipment in a certain manner," said a spokesperson for the ACCC.

Media X Menu 0.8 (beta)
>> BenJeremy released a new beta of his Media X Menu dashboard.

From the Xbox-Scene Forums:
:::sigh::: Few bugs have hopefully trickled in just because there are, indeed, few bugs, but here we go:

Beta 0.8
* Fixed issue with descriptions that are missing.
* Cleaned up message box popping up when a screenshot is missing.

KNOWN ISSUES:
* Speed when cycling items - At the moment, all I can say is that it will
take a while. The issue is that screenshot images must be loaded when
you select an item, and this takes a moment to happen. I need to work
up a good solution, since I can't load all of those images at once.
* Not all skinning options supported yet - Still working on these.
* Setting Random on with Global off prevents local skin track from working.
* More themes needed

No 4920 Bios/Kernel after all
>> It looks like there is no 4920 kernel version after all.

gotmod.com posted this update:
It now appears that the supposed new Xbox kernal is not a different kernal at all. The number in question , found in the XboxLive connectivity test (1.00.4920.01) has to do with the XboxLive software itself. I have installed an XboxLive account myself on 3 different Xbox units, and no matter what kernal they actually were, this same number appeared in the connectivity test.

I know, I know... but I couldnt resist.... 4920 Bios/Kernel
>> From gotmod.com :
I installed everything and I noticed when i ran the connectivity test, when it said "Connected to XboxLive"...I then pressed "Y" and it brought up a screen with networking and other information such as upload speed, download speed, packets lost etc. The most intresting number, however was the very top number. It was 1.00.4920.01. I knew right away it was a kernal version, from my mod experiences with my other xbox. Even though I bought this box for XboxLive only, i decided to open it and look. On the hd was a sticker that just had the number 4920 on it. I also found this number on the motherboard. I could not notice anything that looked different as far as hardware is concerned.
It will probably work fine with a xbox v1.1 cracked bios.
Bios/Kernel 4972 is also known to be a v1.1 , so I don't expect any problem with a 4920 version.

X-Elixis Modchip
>> We received news that GRmods is working on a new Xbox modchip.

It's called X-elixis and will have these features :
* User friendly and Safe installation (1 wire needed).
* V1/V1.1 support
* Easy unistall (for flashing the onboard bios).

We are not sure yet , if there's just 1 solderpoint (probably d0) or if it will be an X-ecuter1-clone (1wire & 9pch-holes)

For more info visit x-elixis.com. The mod-chip should be released in about 3weeks.
