RDX rls 1
>> From readme/nfo:
rdx (at this point at least) is a collection of new (but comparitivly) basic emulator ports along with very basic dashboard like functionallity.
The primary aim of releasing this is to try and stimulate the xbox homebrew dev community a little as things seem to be quieting down a bit lately. :)
You are encouraged to make as many changes to the code as you want and submit them back to us for inclusion in a future version.
There are a few, hopefully non-restrictive, licencing type rules at the top of dash.cpp about what you can and can't do with the source to team xos developed code. They are not there to limit what you can do with the code but more to ensure that you release the modified source to any released binaries to help the development community. Certain parts of the code written outside of Team XOS have slightly more restrictive licences but please always follow the licence the original developers have assigned to there code.

Everything is more than basic in this current version but features are:
* Emulates Snes, Nes, sms, megadrive
* Configurable rom, application and game paths via XML config file
* Dashboard style app launching
* The skelton code for some other features

CES Preview: Xbox 2 - Will Bill announce it?
>> From pcmag.com:
The big speculation in the gaming community surrounding this January's CES is whether or not Bill Gates will announce the next-generation Xbox console during his keynote address. Nobody seems to know for sure, and the whole rumor seems to have started because some game sites jumped the gun and assumed that if Gates is delivering the keynote, it must be for something major like that. Of course the truth is, Gates has delivered the CES keynote for years.
Our prediction? It's not ready yet. The next-generation Xbox will probably be announced at the Game Developers Conference in March, with more formal pricing and details at the big E3 gaming expo in May. Though developers have been working on games for the next Xbox for some time now, the real hardware just hasn't been produced and shaped into true console form yet.

We wouldn't be surprised to see a video touting "the next generation of Xbox gaming" or something vague like that, which will be entirely pre-rendered video that of what Xbox 2 games are supposed to look like, but isn't actually running in real time on real hardware. We can't completely rule out an Xbox 2 appearance, but it doesn't seem likely.

neXgen v2.0.0 alpha NYE
>> Team XboxOpenSource released a completely remade neXgen(info) dashboard.
From readme/nfo:
Alternative opensource dashboard for the Microsoft Xbox Console. Fully skinnable using the LUA scripting language. Includes FTP Server, M$ soundtrack player, LUA interpreter, 2d and 3d skin support and more!
This brand spanking new version of the neXgen engine has been completely re-coded from scratch because the old code we were building on was in our opinion too messy and buggy. But now we're back even better than before. At the moment source will not be released due to the fact that we need to put someones code into libraries who dosen't want their source to be released openly. We will release source as soon as we can as we are using GNU licensed code (XBMC/XBFilezilla). We've also used MIT licensed code (LUA 5) and zlib/libpng licensed code (TinyXML). LUA is still the scripting language we are using for skins and we have made the functions used easier to understand and there's no more SetRenderState's which confused. neXgen also now has functions enabling 2d skins to be made aswell as 3d skins. At the current moment in time a fully functioning 3d skin isn't available. This is because this is an alpha release and were still working on the 3d side of things. But ILTB is working hard on a good 3d skin. This is an alpha release so everything won't be perfect but we'd like to hear your comments/suggestions/bug reports and contructive critism, NOT FLAMING on our section on the Xbox-Scene forums.

Feature Log (As this is coded from scratch):
* LUA based skin engine using source obtained from http://www.lua.org
* XBFileZilla(info) based FTP server using source obtained from XboxMediaCenter(info) cvs code (source will be released soon for all of the dashboard)
* PNG file format support including alpha channel support
* M$ Dashboard soundtrack playing support
* XBG file format support (3d models)
* Dash files can be put anywhere (as long as it's in the same place)
* Cherry's patch code added for switching between PAL and NTSC modes
* TinyXML based XML parser for use with neXgen.xml configuration
* Matrix style screensaver
* File cache for speedier booting of neXgen (has issues)
* Sound player (for use in skins)
* Snowflake render (was for christmas release but too late)
* Fog render!!! (Finally)
* XBE Autolist (for Apps, Emus and Games)
* Autolaunch Audio Discs, DVD's and Unknown's
* Working skin switcher
* 3D Cameras (set position etc.)
* Much more "Behind the Scenes" code
Currently Known Bugs:
* 3d meshes cannot be rendered over 2d layers
To-Do List:
* More formats for music player (such as mp3)
* Virtual keyboard
* Disc Ripper
* Music Manager
* File Manager
* Save Game Manager
* Settings configurable in dash including xbox configuration
* Hardware control (drive locking etc.)
* Other stuff

>> From teamuix.com:

Beta testing has now began on whats to be our core release of this exciting new dash "user.interface.xbox". Version 0.01 will be our "base plate" for adding new features on a regular basis as the following months go by. The image below is the first level of the HDD menu, as u can see this is a totally new layout to any other ms dasboard and will become optional in later releases.

On The Seventh Day Of Christmas
>> From www.teamxodus.com
TEAM XODUS GAVE TO ME...
SEVEN POINTS A-POSTING...
Six great a-wards...
Fiiiiive brand new skiiiiins...
Four more features...
Three French pens...
Two cool features...
And a lot of bug fixes in the source tree.

1. Apologies
Firstly, apologies for the delay in posting, but as many of you quite rightly guessed, holiday season sort of took us away longer than expected. What with family reunions, parties, catch up get togethers, we figured our team deserved their much needed break and family time so we did not push too hard.

2. 12 days part two
Now with that out the way, we’re back, rejuvenated, re-focused and ready to kick some serious butt!! We have a second part of the 12 days of Christmas to unveil plus a whole host of exciting developments for the New Year. Unlike others we like to keep our cards close to our chest and release news and features as they are ready. We would like to end off this year with a bang (or begin the New Year with a bang, whichever you prefer) so we are building up the tempo once again. With the flood of questions, expectation and anticipation we have created we are burning the midnight oil to release the scheduled hardware and software features we have planned for you.

3. Xenium Stars again
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jonathan Harbour on the recent publication of his new book: The Black Art of Xbox Mods. Our Xenium is proud to have had a leading role in this book, and was featured rather exclusivly in nearly every chapter, with competing products receiving only a brief 1-2 paragraph mention.
Pick up your copy today! Let us know what you think of the book, and stay tuned in the coming days as we will have several autographed copies to give away.

4. Retail News
We welcome the guys over at www.bmmods.com as official retailers. Check out their site's new look.

5. Competition Update
It has been a few days since we last updated you on the status of the competitions in progress. Entries are still flooding in both for the French Pen PR competition and the Skinning competition. Remember you still have time so get those entries in!

6. Hot Air
In the coming days (if all goes well) we have scheduled the much anticipated release of our newest piece of hardware designed to revolutionize the industry. We have heard a lot of hype and hot air about adaptors that will do this and that, bigger, better, etc... etc... Where are they?

7. XFusion
Of course, news about the development and progress of the new XFusion project has been a long time coming. The co-operation is moving along at a rapid rate and we are now ready to launch phase two of our promised promotion.

XFUSION DESIGN A LOGO COMPETITION:
We are so impressed by the number and quality of the skinning competition entries received so far that we thought we would give all you budding artists out there more chances to stretch those creative limits. The contest is simple:
Design a logo for the new Xfusion product.
Hints:
It has to be bold and has to have impact and flair. Be as wild and wacky as possible. You can also use the catch phrase “Re-write the rules” if you like, but it is not essential.
Email your entries to prcomp@nospam.teamxodus.com *remove the .nospam. part*
All entries must be submitted by January 9th
Prizes:
We will have three finalists from which we will choose a grand prize winner.
Each finalist will receive the brand new Xlight, and a Xenium.
The winner will also receive a grand prize of $500, cash.
Enjoy!

Using a Windows Media Center 2005 PC through your Xbox
>> Engadget and WinSuperSite.com reviewed and explain how to use and install the recently released Microsoft Media Extender for Xbox ($80).
We finally got around to setting up a Media Center PC 2005 box and we’ve got to say, it’s a great deal better than the previous version(s) of MCE. Especially with its ability to use Media Extenders. A Media Extender is basically just software or a device used to extend the Media Center PC’s interface and content to another PC, or, in this case, an Xbox. So, if you have videos, pictures, recorded TV, podcasts, and downloaded media on your Media Center PC, you can use the Xbox to access them all just like you would on the Media Center. It was a little more complicated than we think it needs to be for average users, but it’s certainly nothing you probably couldn’t handle.

Conclusion (Engadget):
Overall, everything worked as expected and it’s pretty convenient to be able to access all your content from the Media Center PC on an Xbox in another room. While we think it’s a little too complicated for your average home user to get going (perhaps like Windows MCE itself), that might change in time. This could eventually become the ultimate strategy for PCs and consoles, where the “main” device in your household is a super charged PC that handles all the TV recording, holds all your pictures and media, and the console in the other room plays games as well as accessing all that content.

Conclusion (WinSuperSite.com):
The Media Center Extender for Xbox should have been a no-brainer, but it isn't because of some serious design mistakes. If you are looking for a Media Center Extender, but don't own an Xbox, skip out on the Xbox Extender and get a dedicated Media Center Extender: They aren't perfect either, but they are silent, perform better, can be powered up and down via a remote, and include remote controls that are compatible with other Media Center equipment. If you own an Xbox and would like to try out the Xbox Extender software, understand the limitations first. Look over the list of problems in the article and determine if you can live with them. If you can, the price is right, and the Xbox Extender won't let you down. But for most potential customers, I can only arrive at one possible conclusion: The Xbox Extender is a dog, and you should avoid it.
Go read the whole article on engadget.com and winsupersite.com.
Of course ... if you have a modded Xbox you should get XboxMediaCenter(info), it's not only free ... but it will also give you more features and support for many more formats. XboxMediaCenter is also very different because it can not only stream media like Microsoft's Media Extender, but also play directly from the Xbox CD/DVD/HD. With XboxMediaCenter the Xbox is 'decoding' the media files itself.

Hitachi-LG GDR-8050L DVD Drive In Xbox
>> Microsoft is now using a new DVD-ROM drive in the Xbox console. Frequent modders or people with a very recent Xbox probably already saw this new drive for some time.
The new drive is made by Hitachi and LG ('H-L'), the model is GDR-8050L. The new drive appears in some Xbox consoles manufactured since end september 2004 (Xbox v1.6/v1.6b) and the build date of the drive is September 2004 or later. The drive has a white connector cable instead of yellow and the tray looks a lot like the one on the Thomson drive but with a wider cutout. From reports on our forums the drive seems to work fine with most DVD-+R, DVD-RW and CDRW media, but fails to boot most CD-R discs.
There's a forum discussion about this new DVD-ROM drive here[forums.xbox-scene.com] where they are also trying to find the PC drive from Hitachi and/or LG that matches the hardware of this new Xbox drive. If there's such a drive the firmware from the H-L Xbox drive could be flashed on the PC-drive. This PC-drive could then be used as cheap fully working (also boot orignal Xbox discs) replacement drive, like done with the discontinued Samsung 616T PC-drive(more info).

FBAxxx 26/12
>> A new version of FBAxxx(info) - a port to Xbox of FBA - has been released.
What's new/fixed/notes:
* Dipswitches not saved fixed.
* Cheats not being saved fixed.
* Included outrun fix (and somme system16 fix) from djohng fbaxxx-treme release (http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10478), thanks to him for his work (there are many other things in his release so I can only advice you to see it)
* sources are now available up to date, sorry about last time
* Plz note : I had (again) some problems with neogeo roms, I had to use a little trick, so you could see some missing screens in the beginning of the rom (7 first seconds), that s normal.
* Another note : I want to say to all "amateur developers" that there is a developers section on my forum, you can put your fixes, own releases, suggestions there, I think that s the way open source must be.
