Gentoox Pro v1.4, Gentoox Home v3.1, Gentoox MCE v1.0, Gentoox Loader v4.5
>> ShALLaX released a new version of Gentoox Pro(info), Gentoox Home(info), Gentoox Loader(info) and Gentoox MCE on gentoox.shallax.com:
Four, count them... four releases today! I'll keep this short, Gentoox Pro v1.4, Gentoox Home v3.1, Gentoox MCE v1.0, Gentoox Loader v4.5.
A couple of sidenotes, for me... Xbox v1.6 support is unstable for some reason, I keep getting kernel panics, please could people confirm this -- it may just be my Xbox or maybe I'm just being too optimistic...? Also, I've removed Hackdust (redundant) and I've removed Friendtech MCE (deprecated) from the downloads section.
Enjoy, and please... remember to read the README's before asking any questions! Note that you dont need Gentoox loader if you're upgrading to Home v3.1 or Pro v1.3 since its already included. And remember, together, we can take down SourceForge's mirrors ;)... (really, last time I released Pro we ground the OSDN mirror down to 8KBps!).
You can find the Gentoox Pro v1.4 README here, the Home v3.1 README here and the MCE v1.0 README here.

Team Xecuter news update
>> From teamxecuter.com:
Apologies for our lack of updates recently, we've been having to deal with some X3 hardware bugs, X2.6 release, X3 Bios work, X3 Linux Bios work and Typhoons :p
* X3 is now finished. All hardware bugs are fixed and final testing was completed yesterday. Hardware and Bios are now both 100% compatible with v1.0 - v1.6 along with many new bios features. * X2.6 will be in stores next week. All connectors and installation methods will be 1:1 the same as X3 - so those who may wish to upgrade to X3 later will simply plug and play. * X3 Linux Bios (FlashBIOS v3.0.0) will support flash via webserver. We are also looking to implement other features such as FTP. We are still finalizing the code but it should be ready in the next few days. * X3 Bios is currently at build 1702. There will probably be another 2-3 builds by the time it hits the stores in a couple of weeks time. * The final X3 LCD lib has been passed onto the XBMC people. * We have more goodies to offer once X3 hits the stores, things we've been working on out of the public eye - watch this space. * v1.6 Boxes are now hitting Europe. They are on sale in Sweden and the UK. This is confirmed from our own purchases.
Gentoox tools/magic update, new versions coming, DreamX Bravo *updated*
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
You may have noticed (or not if you have a life) that I have been making numerous changes to bits and pieces of software (Gentoox Sparkle(info), Gentoox Loader(info)...) and magic. These changes are to accommodate for Gentoox Home(info) v3.1, Gentoox Pro(info) v1.4 and Gentoox Media Center v1.0 (which is basically the same as Friendtech Media Center(info) but without the branding... I told you I wasn't giving up on it!). The beauty of GPL is that I can legally carry on with this project under my own supervision without harsh deadlines and unrealistic demands. All three distros will (hopefully) be released on the same day before the end of September. I know its already been 10 months since the last release of Home edition, but dont worry... it WILL be here soon, promise!
Heres a list of a few new features in Home v3.1 to whet your appetite: * KDE 3.3.0. * Full (AT LAST) Xbox v1.4-1.5 (Focus) support. * Preliminary Xbox v1.6 support. * Mozilla Firefox * Updated software (as of 20/08/2004)... This means its taken 13 solid days of compiling to get it up to date! (as today is 02/09/2004) * Updated magic (as of 02/09/2004). * Gentoox Loader v4.5. * Sparkle v1.3. * xmms-shn, xmms-flac (requested). * XFCE 4.0.6.
So keep watching this space for all three releases! In the meanwhile, here's a screenshot of Home v3.1 running KDE 3.3.0.
*update* From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
I've just received a DreamX Bravo from Friendtech! The machine overall looks very good, it has a Pentium 3 processor with 256K cache, 128MB of RAM and a massive 200GB HDD. There are a few minor annoyances though, one is that it was shipped with an illegal BIOS, but I'm certain they will fix this as I've told them time and time again that doing so will end them up in court. Also, the new skin is merely a recoloured old skin from the DreamX 1480, this means that it has a redundant "Standard/ Turbo" decal on it where the switch would have gone. The modchip contained within is a rather modest 256K in size but is raincoat flashable - it makes running a server impractical, however, as you need to hold down the power button to enable the third party BIOS... so later, I'll be swapping this over with a Xenium (generously donated by XboxChips.com!). The Bravo comes with a very nice, high quality, gold plated AV lead and a single controller. In all, the Bravo is a very nice machine which is really well tweaked for running Linux. If all goes well, I may migrate the Gentoox server over to this machine, or use it as the Gentoox build machine to speed up release times. Many thanks to Friendtech for this donation! Heres a photo of my rather messy (at the moment) setup.
Microsoft to create Xbox-PC joint code base
>> From theinquirer.net:
MICROSOFT TOLD me today at the ECTS show in London's Earls Court that it is preparing plans to make a common code base for PC games and for the Xbox, a shift from its past strategy. Whether this means that the Xbox II and future PCs will use the same code base is still unclear, however. Microsoft, with the first iteration of its Xbox machine, made things so that it could sell different products on its hardware, although the usual protests were heard that it was just attempting to milk consumers. It appears that Microsoft has listened to such plaints, and is considering a different direction in the future.
Xecuter3 update
>> From Team Xecuter (forums):
Must apologise for our lack of updates. The bugs we had last week are fixed. We have a couple of loose ends to tie up but we're done. Manufacturing of new samples and test boards to nail this last bug was very much delayed due to typhoons in Tawain stopping us from working. We are now on track and should have a final design / code / bios etc etc ready by this weekend. Manufacturing and delivery should then take around 7 days Your patience has been superb and your support overwhelming. You will not be dissapointed.
XLink Kai updates
>> From TD on teamxlink.co.uk:
Just got back from Peru and had a couple of days to catch up on some sleep. I've had chance to have a good look over the orbital server code, and have decided to rewrite the orbital from scratch. It's pretty much the last piece of the puzzle with XLink Kai(info) before we can do a visual cleanup and begin porting to other platforms. Speaking of other platforms, I've managed to get hold of a lovely 15' Powerbook - and have started to work out how XCode and Cocoa work. Spending a few minutes on that every day or so should mean that once the orbital server code is finished, I should know enough to make the OSX engine in a reasonable amount of time. Apart from that, you're gonna see a useful scriptable command line UI for the Win32 XLink pretty soon - should be useful for you dedicated server guys. I've also noticed a few homebrew games popping up on XBox-Scene's news - these ones look really nice and I look forward to what they end up as. It's brought my attention back to the Factions project which was outlined a while back - I dug some old code out from that tonight, but decided to hold fire until Kai's orbital servers are sorted. I think it would be safe to say that in future you will see a couple of small warmup games for the Xbox from Team XLink, leading up to Factions itself. Should be fun. Anyway, I'll carry on and get back to you all as soon as I have something to tell you - but be warned, as the new Orb code gets close, there will be considerable disruption until its settled. MooGUI v1.1.0
>> A new interface utility for XDVDFS Maker v2.0x From the readme: What is MooGUI? MooGUI v1.1.0 is a batch file creator for use with XDVDFS Tools(info) for those of us that are keyboard challenged. XDVDFS Tools is command line driven and has no GUI, anytime you want to use it you have to launch up a command window (DOS window) and type all the parameters it needs. I hated DOS, hence I hate the command line, but I do like what XDVDFS Tools does. Bring forth MooGUI. What MooGUI Does Do: * Creates a batch file for use with XDVDFS Tools to create an optimized ISO file. * Allows you to edit a layout file. * Allows you to apply different optimization methods to layout files. * Verifies layout file integrity. What MooGUI Does NOT Do: * Does not create an ISO, XDVDFS Tools does that using MooGUI's batch file. * Does not burn ISO images. * Does not transfer game files from your Xbox. * Does not transfer layout files from your Xbox. The basis of MooGUI was to create a simple interface for XDVDFS Tools, but since its v1.0b bug plagued conception it has grown to accomodate the user. It is no longer just "simple", though it does have a wizard driven interface for the new user.

Ind-Bios: Initial Public Release v5001
>> From nfo/readme:
We are a group of xbox enthusiasts that just wasnt satisfied in how far BIOS development has come, and decided to take matters into our own hands. Basically, we went through the current bioses feature lists, and the requested bios hacks thread on forums.xbox-scene.com, and implemented all that we could.
We are open to most feature suggestions, especially if you feel that you can help implement them. We are aware of 2 of the most requested features that we have not done; xbox live hack, and embedded ftp. The former we will not be touching, sorry. As for the later, never say never! :)
We know how many people love to customize their bios to fit their exact needs, and we made an effort to make every option that we could configurable. All of the configurable options are controlled by a .cfg file (ini style) on the xbox hard drive. We have included a win32 application that will edit this file for you, which should eleminate user error for the most part.
Loading the config file from the disk requires a short delay while the IDE is initialized. If you don't like the delay you can inject your config file into the BIOS with our ConfigInjector tool. Note that an injected config does have its disadvantages. Please see the ConfigInjector readme.txt for more info.
Please remember that this is our first public release, and bugs are expected. Please report all bugs in the bios forum, on forums.xbox-scene.com, or #ind-bios on EFnet.

Freakdave Xbox SDL-ports SourcePack released
>> From freakdave.xbox-scene.com:
After a very long time i've finally made the decision to release the source code of each SDL-port i've made so far(All ports are GPL-licensed). This package does NOT contain any binaries and datafiles of the ports. If you're searching for the appropriate datafiles, you should better visit the 'usual places' or the authors' websites.
This package contains the latest source code for: * Released games: Abombniballx(info), Dodgin Diamond 2X(info), GluttonX(info), Jump 'n BumpX(info), SDL-FighterX(info), K.E.T.M.X(info), Shippy1984X(info), Heroes of RoswellX(info) * Important apps: Normal Launcher (modded for Jump 'n BumpX), Normal Launcher for the rest of the ports * Incomplete stuff: ASFG (needs gamepad support), Certain death via space thingsX (control issues), DumbbellX (control issues), MuresX (Chu Chu rocket clone, needs gamepad support.Mouse should work fine), Super Mario Clone FXX (There seems to be a bug in the game initialization code)
Misc: The launchers are my own work and they're NOT GPL'ed ! However you're allowed to use (rip) the source for your own projects. Learn from it,mess around with it,do what you want with it :) All projects should compile under Visual Studio.NET 2k3 and the latest XDK. If you have any further questions/comments feel free to visit my forums.
The reason why i released the sourcepack is that i'm switching over to the Homebrew-scene. I'm currently learning DirectX and i've made good progress so far. If everything goes fine,i'm going to start a new project by the end of next week. I'll keep you posted !
XBConnect 4.1
>> A new version of XBConnect(info) has been released. From xbconnect.com:
Finally, XBC 4.1 is done. We could have gone on for ever with all the features suggested by our Pro users. Below is a list of fixes and additions since 4.1 beta 2. 1. Fixed ability to 'hijack' nicks in chat. 2. Revamped the "Approved server code". It was using 10 times too much bandwidth. 3. Improved player bans. 4. Minor tweaks to game shutdown code. 5. Internal support updated for 'approved servers'. 6. Added ' to cancel' when joining a game. 7. Fixed missing nicknames in host chat log. 8. Many updated and new skins. 9. Added encryption to password and xbc pro serial. Should make it very, very difficult for someone to take your serial or password even if they have physical access to the machine. 10. Reworked some skin code. Skins are now compressed and load/perform faster. 11. Added a mute function to the game room. 12. Added new game type field. (CFT, FFA, TS, KOTH) 13. Added desired players (anyone, singles, doubles, etc) 14. Removed PAL/NTSC column. Pal now shows up right in the game column. 15. Corrected some IRC server nick handling code. 16. Adds a MRU (Most recently used) list to the game type host drop down box. Now you won't have to scroll through games when hosting different ones. 17. Added Minutes hosting and joining to MyXBC 18. Fixed chat text alignment in main chat. 19. Made URL grabber in chat more accurate. 20. Fixed some delays with signatures and avatars. 21. Added code for tracking the following: *Time spent hosting a game. This only counts if you are actually playing a game. *Players hosted. XBC will count the players you host while actually playing a game. *Time spent joining in a game. Again, XBC only counts time while actually playing.
W.I.P. Tokyo Wars update
>> Tokyo Wars is a homebrew tank game in an urban environment currently in development by Team AfterShock. From shizno on aftershock.xbox-scene.com:
Not too much that I can talk about this week, because some features are top-secret! (or maybe that's an excuse for not getting much done ) I've got my artist slave working 24/7 on some new HUD/menu elements, what we have ATM looks pretty good but it will most likely evolve to something different before release.. I've been kicking my partitioning systems ass, it's a never ending war of trying to get more detailed objects into the city VS speed (things like street lamps)...I have to keep 4 player split screen in mind when I'm trying to dump shitloads of objects into a level, my IN GAME Level Editer has become very powerful now so it is easy to get carried away I have started work on AI. Not much to say about it so far, but when finished it should be good for you and 3 friends to duke it out against bots on some fun gametypes. I have messed around with the CENSORED, it is most likely going to be implemented, but it does have some big overhead so no promises, Tokyo Wars will be the first homebrew title to do so if it makes the final version (actually, only one or two commercial games use it?) so it is all very cool stuff. Oh and you might be asking about the 'CENSORED' plastered on some screenshots, well that is to hide some uber-elite features! (Or one popular theory is that its to cover up the CENSORED part of the map) you decide Oh, and off topic: I have a feeling 'The Force' will be making a big comeback...more on that later No Screenshots this week. Gentoox major reshuffling
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
I'm doing some major cleaning of the Gentoox project, I'm basically separating the development files from the website and then making special build directories for each module of the project. Please let me know if anything appears to be broken! Thank you!
Avaxdisk v1.5 net
>> Avaxdisk v1.5 net (an Xbox homebrew SW installer based on Avalaunch(info) dashboard running over network) has been released today. From gtjays on x-disk.com:
From watching all the posts from peeps that are having install issues with burning installers and getting them to “load” right. I thought this would be a good time to try something different. As Avalaunch is a simple and yet powerful dash, with only a few associated apps required to have an awesome Xbox experience. I thought this would be a good starting place. In no means will we stop producing new releases for xdisk auto installers but rather give you another install option. This version will be a Network installer. THIS IS AN "ADVANCED" INSTALLER - SOME NETWORKING KNOWLEDGE IS REQUIRED! PLEASE READ THE "INSTRUCTIONS.PDF" INCLUDED IN THE .RAR BEFORE PLAYING!
This installer will include: • Avalaunch 0.49.1.62 • XBMC 2004.08.18 • XBMC mail 0.3.1 • Complex tools 1.60 • DVD2XBOX • DVDX2 • Swfxplayer • Linksboks 0.92
I will also include links to download associated PC apps to complete this release. IE: Quix 101, hotmail popper for xbmc mail… and Craxtion(info) 4.0 – your complete backup/restore/game-save/multi-disk apps. This release will also include EvolutionX(info) Build 3935 (as Craxtion will not work with Avalaunch to date.)
Project Jihad W.I.P. update
>> Jihad(info) is a homebrew arcade/adventure game for Xbox currently in development by 'The unProfessional'. The game is designed to be a free, fun, multiplayer homebrew game for everyone to enjoy. From theunprofessional.com:
It's time for some more regular updates. I got some good time in this weekend, and this week, although I'd hoped for more. Visually, everything is set for now, in terms of the engine. I'm awaiting an update in the physics engine necessary to finish my vehicle physics, so that should be any time now. Other than that, I'm finishing up the basic game server to allow for actual synchronized, physical play. Things are coming along quite nicely.

MAMEoX_v0.84.b3 Updated
>> A unofficial relase is out containing some improvements on the lightgun, they are: - Calibration screen with instructions, and calibration stored per port and lightgun - Improved lightgun in games: It will not default to the center of the screen if not "seen"; tweaked the lightgun "processing" so it will hit almost every time(even when pointed in a black area), and will reload if you shoot offscreen (at least on those games that have support for it by the mame core) - Multiple lightgun support - Tweaks for compatibility (there where some Joytech Sharp Shooters that had the white and black buttons half-pressed internally, had to increase threshold for button pressing)
