Xport releases 11 new game/emulator ports and 1 update
>> Xport just released a bunch of new game/emulator ports at once!!
Here's an overview:

* PowermangaX - Powermanga for XBox v1 (Powermanga website)
This is a port of the game Powermanga. It's a fun 2D shooter.

* GladiatorX - OpenGlad for XBox v1 (OpenGlad website)
This is a port of the game OpenGlad which is itself a port of an old DOS game called Gladiator. It's like Gauntlet and an action-RPG. It supports up to 4 players playing competitively or cooperatively.
You start off with $5000 which you use to buy troops (soldiers, barbarians, elves, ghosts, etc).
You can also spend extra money to increase their stats. After you have bought some troops, you can start the game. You have manual control over one of your troops and the rest behave via AI. You can switch between members of your group, too. The objective is to clear each board and progress through all 99 levels.

* AmphetamineX - Amphetamine for XBox v1 (Amphetamine website)
This is a port of the 2D platformer Amphetamine. Pretty good stuff.

* BlobWarsX - Blob Wars for XBox v1 (BlobWars website)
This is a port of the game Blob Wars which is another really slick/polished game from Parallel Realities. It's a platformer similar in theme to Metal Slug where you must rescue MIAs, collect weapon power-ups, etc.

* StarfighterX - Starfighter for XBox v1 (Starfighter website)
This is a port of the game Starfighter which is a really slick/polished 2D shooter that includes an upgrade system.
This game requires a video mode of 800x600 - which the XBox cannot do natively. Therefore the graphics are shrunk to 640x480. When this happened, the already small font used in the game became an alien language. I had to make a new (bigger) font which resulted in some cropping in certain parts of the game. If reading all of the parts of the story is important to you, you can check out the data files in the DATA directory. They're all human-readable. You'll probably want to have a copy of the "SHOP.DAT" file handy since most of the prices in the shops are cut off.

* PachiX - Pachi El Marciano for XBox v1 (Pachi El Marciano website)
This is a port of the game Pachi el Marciano which is an....interesting platformer/puzzler.

* BlueMSXBox BlueMSX Emulator port for XBox v1 (BlueMSX website)
Emulates MSX/MSX2/MSX2+

* OdysseyX Odyssey 2 Emulator port for XBox v1 (O2EM website)
Emulates Odyssey 2

* LynXBox Atari Lynx (Handy) Emulator port for XBox v1 (Handy website)
Emulates Atari Lynx

* ArnoldX Amstrad CPC Emulator port for XBox v1 (Arnold website)
Emulates Amstrad CPC

* X68000X X68000 Emulator port for XBox v1 (X68000 website)
Emulates X68000

* XBoyAdvance(info) - GBA/GBC/GB/SGB/SGB2 Emulator for XBox v10
What's new/fixed:
+ Merged in VisualBoy Advance 1.7.2 sources
+ Yes, Hamtaro works now
+ Filenames are no longer converted to all lowercase
+ Option to sort directories to the top or mixed in with the files
+ Fixed bug when selecting multiple buttons in combos
+ Customizable delay between screenshots (e.g. show new screenshot every 3 seconds)
+ View text files - access via Main Menu -] Utilities or during gameplay from In-game options -] Game Utilities
+ When the user has edited their INI files (which you should NOT do anymore since everything is editable through the menus) and their save directory is invalid, they will now be told so when XBoyAdvance starts.
+ Hardware filters (point filtering, bi/tri linear, etc) are now re-initalized before each game starts. The filter was possibly being overridden and never enforced after the first time a game is played.
+ Returning to favorites list maintains current position in list
+ Separated "General Settings" into two pages
+ Can now have hi-res modes (e.g. 1080i) initialized at startup

Hack-DevKiT Bios
>> From nfo/readme:
Here is a bios to hack Debug Kits and Dev Kits only (not for retail xbox!).
With it you can run all unsigned xbe and your games backup.
Advantages of this bios: No need to flash your Xbox, it becomes original again when you don't need this hack anymore. Just delete it from FTP.

How to use it. Very simple, you just need official Microsoft XDK and Visual Studio 6, 7 or .NET. You must have configured your Xbox IP and have access to your E/ from Neighborhood. Next, you must see DXT directory in partition E. Just put GueuX-E-drive-Volume-B.DXT file in this DXT directory. Reboot your Xbox. Open Neighborhood and you must see "Volume B:" in the root. Open it and put xboxrom.bin there.

Team Gueux'Net also released this info (translated from french):

Finally we have succeeded to bring back a Xbox v1.6 from USA.
It's now in the hands of our developer, Yoshihiro. We hope that we will bring our help to the scene.

New XBox Kernel problem
>> From xbox-linux.org:
The Kernel 5713 doesn't accept a downgrade of the dashboard. So there is no way to use the standard Software-Hacks at the moment (neither Mechinstall nor SplinterCell). You can try to flash the TSOP or you have to use a modchip. For the time being there is no easy way to run Linux at the Crystal Xbox or other very new Xboxes.

CloneXB v2.1
>> A new version of CloneXB(info) has been released.
What's new/fixed:
++ Updated built in buring engine (DVDDecrypter) to version 3.2.2.0 which has quite a few bug fixes in it.
++ Improved the GUI look, feel and useability.
++ Added a new toolbar with the following tools on it: 'Rebuild Existing ISO', 'Create ISO From Directory', 'Burn Existing ISO', 'Remove Media Check'
++ Added cool new progress bars.
++ Added time remaining display to cool new progress bars.
++ Added the ablity to copy an XBOX disc using your PC only. This will only work when copying from a DVD-R/+R disc and will not work with original XBOX discs as a PC DVD drive cant read them. So basically you can copy an already copied XBOX disc using just your PC DVD-ROM and PC DVD Burner without the need to use the XBOX to read the disc.
++ Added burning support for the following burners : 'Mitsubishi Diamond Data DVDXRW424', 'LG GSA-4040B', 'LG GMA-4020B', 'Teac CD-W54E USB', 'Toshiba SD-R5112'
++ Added display of the disc size in MegaBytes during copying.
++ Added a standard system minimize button to the dialog so you can minimize CloneXB while its copying so you can carry on doing other things.
-- FINALLY FIXED THE FUCKING LOCKING BUG. I finally got around to implementing proper threading so now you can dare to touch your PC and do other things while CloneXB is doing its thing. This has been a big problem for everyone since the 1st version of CloneXB.
-- Fixed the 'Keep Temp Files' option so that when its not selected temp files do actually get deleted.

dvd2xbox 0.5.8
>> WiSo released a new version of dvd2xbox(info). What's new/fixed:
* added a backup retry mode. If for any reason some files failed to copy a window will pop up and ask you to retry or to cancel (maincopy mode).
* Testing: added a simple ftp client to the disk browser which lets you copy files from your xbox hdd (only hdd!) to a ftp server and vice versa (xbox[-]xbox). Supported are basic functions like copy/delete,mkdir and rmdir/file.
* added a simple text viewer. View your logfile directly in dvd2xbox after ripping etc (currently only support for files from UDF).
* fixed a minor bug in the rename function (thanks to hubevolution and murdo).
* removed acl.all from processing because it confuses to many people.
* added a new ACL command (see ACLSyntax.txt for more):
AP - applies patches in ppf format to a file (see http://www.paradogs.com/pdx_ppf2.htm for more info. The win binary makeppf.exe is included to create ppf files).
* updated to the newest cdrip from cdex cvs.
* fixed some smaller bugs.

Note: the ACL files changed. Remove your old copy and replace it by the files provided with this package.
To all ACL writers: the SM operation needs to be done in every acl file from now on due to the removal of the all.acl file.
Sorry if there're some bugs left but I don't have much time at the moment. Just report them to xbox-scene.com and I'll try to fix them in the next version.
The Webpage will be updated when the ftp is back.

True Fantasy Live Online cancelled !?
>> From gamespot.com:
Microsoft Japan today announced the cancellation of True Fantasy Live Online, the promising massively multiplayer role-playing game for the Xbox that was first unveiled in 2002. The game was being developed by veteran developer Level 5, whose recent work has included the Dark Cloud franchise for the PlayStation 2.
In a press release issued this morning in Japan, Microsoft stated that the cancellation was due to the lack of progress in development. Citing the game's inability to deliver a level of quality satisfactory to consumers, Microsoft opted to cancel the project, which had been slated for a winter release this year in Japan.

Here are some videos as promised.

As a point of clarity, the Beta WAS released when we said it would be, but due to the leaks, and obvious security issues from our last Beta fiasco we are only working with a few of our most trusted friends for this one. As we have said many times before, a release this big and groundbreaking will be protected and closely guarded to ensure we do it right. We fully understand the frustrations that many of you have and we do listen. All we ask is for a bit of faith and understanding. Delays have been unavoidable, and as you well know by now, we will not compromise quality and security for speed. Bear with us. Enjoy the vids.

Gentoox: Another set-back... *updated* + focus support info
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
* One of my server's partitions just died (ext3). The journal somehow completely screwed itself. I've lose about 35GB of data (Including school work, server backups, etc...). So basically, its going to take me a hell of a long time to sift through all of the remaining files (most of the stuff got thrown randomly in lost+found).
No Gentoox files were affected it seems, however, this is going to have an impact on Gentoox development.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.

* Ok, its taken two days of solid work, but I've salvaged most of my files (save 5GB of data which was probably unimportant junk). So I can get back to development. But first... sleep, as its now 6:30am.

* This is the last thing I ever want to have to say about Focus support until I get a release done. I havent slept yet because of two people who just keep messaging me asking for help doing this.
THERE IS A TUTORIAL IN THE TUTORIALS SECTION (why, oh why, people keep asking me where the tutorial is, I'll never know... I guess people are either idiots or just lazy)... It's this one right here... did you miss that... just in case... here it is again.
I hate to be so blunt, but if you can't follow this tutorial, then just give up, because Linux isnt meant for you. I wont give any support via e-mail/ aim/ whatever because I only ever end up repeating myself... and the user manages to get it working anyway even though all I've actually done is copied and pasted stuff from the tutorial.
If you can't get the tutorial to work, too bad... wait for the next release of Gentoox, which probably isnt going to be this month since I'm off to France for 10 days next Wednesday.

Nintendo Revolution, Xbox 2 and PlayStation 3 for E3 2005
>> From spong.com:
Although it’s a year away, the hype surrounding E3 2005 is gathering pace impressively, with all three hardware manufacturers poised to show their new home console offerings at the key Los Angeles event.
Indeed, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have all openly - albeit off the record - stated that the intention is for a colossal hardware showdown next May, making E3 2005 the hottest date on the industry calendar.

Although the Xbox 2 has essentially been decided upon already, the offerings from Sony, and especially Nintendo, still hold a great deal of interest. As you will recall, we exposed Microsoft’s deal with ATi exclusively here last year. Bolt the GPU onto a processor and motherboard, along with the as-yet undisclosed storage, and you have your Xbox 2. Microsoft’s headway into fields outside of gaming is where the real interest will undoubtedly lie.

SmartXX-OS Violationing GPL?
>> From oz_paulb (paulb) on forums.xbox-scene.com:
I've previously asserted that SmartXX's "OS" contains GPL'd code (lots of code taken from Cromwell(info) (Xbox-Linux project)). I've been asked to document what I believe to be GPL'd code, which I am happy to do.

First of all, SmartXX 'encrypts' their code, making it more difficult for others to determine whether/not it's based on the existing GPL'd Cromwell. I thought that as a first step, I'd post an application that takes a SmartXX "update" image (example: "update_3311.bin"), and generates a decrypted binary image suitable for disassembly in something like IDA Pro (what I use for disassembly).

After this initial post, I'll make a post with the source code to an app that'll decrypt the SmartXX "update_XXXX.bin" files.
My decryptor app compiles using "Cygwin" on a PC (Cygwin is a unix-like environment for Windows). I assume it'll also compile on MinGW (another unix-like environment), Linux, and as a "console application" under Visual C.
After I've uploaded the decryptor app, I'll post some details of specific code in the decrypted SmartXX "OS" that (to me) seems to be a clear violation of the GPL license. Others can judge for themselves and confirm what I think (or, let me know that I'm wrong).

SmartXX OS and GPL
I believe that the SmartXX OS is in violation of the GPL, as it is heavily based on the Cromwell project (which has been released under the GPL license).
In the past, others have requested from SmartXX that they release the source (because it's GPL). Franz claims that, although much of the code comes from Cromwell, it's not GPL'd because he is the original author that contributed it to Cromwell. If this were the case (Franz being the author of the GPL'd Cromwell code), then it would be OK for SmartXX to do whatever they want with the code that they've authored. In fact, Franz is the author of lots of Cromwell's code (or lots of re-writes of Cromwell code).
But, I assert that SmartXX OS contains code written by people other than Franz (myself included), which I'm sure SmartXX didn't receive a separate license to. I'll try to prove that later in this thread.
You can find the sourcecode and exe of decryptor + more info on this thread.

Gentoox Sparkle v1.2 and Loader v4.0 *updated*
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
Ok, nothing majorly new here, just maintenance releases.
First off, I've changed the Sparkle package to just contain Sparkle and nothing else (no BIOSes). I've incremented the version to v1.2 so people don't get confused.

I know I'll probably get a load of hate mail from this next change (at least from narrow minded people). I've decided to name the Gentoox _romwell releases "Gentoox Loader". This does absolutely not mean its my own work, it doesn't mean its a fork its simply to end confusion between Gentoox's bootloader and the "Proper" releases of _romwell. I've decided to start at v4.0 since I have made about 4 major releases of Gentoox Loader. This version of Loader supports 2.6.x kernels and has useful LED feedback:
rgog = Busy
oxox = At menu
gxgx = Boot successful
rxrx = Error

All new releases can be found in the Download section. Testing and feedback is greatly appreciated!

*Update*
I've updated the Focus tutorial to accommodate for the changes in these new packages.

Gentoox kernel 2.6.6 patch and updated phpSysInfo
>> From ShALLaX on http://gentoox.shallax.com:
* So after compiling some new kernels with different options, I noticed that if the kernel grew over a certain size... bam, it would randomly error on boot. One symptom was devfs not working.
This instantly triggered an alarm in my head that the memory mapping in cromwell wasnt accomodating the size of the kernel. Then it dawned on me, Oliver had recently rewritten the memory mapping code for Cromwell(info). I downloaded the latest Cromwell from CVS, compiled it, and what do you know... my previously buggy 2.4.22 kernel boots. Then, I figured since the problem with 2.6.x was devfs not seeming to work, I'd try to compile my own 2.6.6... and guess what, it works!
I've been working frantically to get Cromwell customised again, which I've just finished now. Now I'm working on a 2.6.6 patch. Oh... the other good news is that the reiserfs bug seems to have disappeared in 2.6, I checked over the code and there has been a significant change to the affected area.
So anyway, with that said. I'll get back to work ;)

* Updated phpSysInfo. See if you can figure out whats new ;). It's up in the Developer section for downloading.

XLink Kai update Live
>> From TD on teamxlink.co.uk:
This weekends update just went up. Changes are detailed below. This build also contains a massively overhauled virtual-switching core, and a rewritten DHCP core (props to DIE-HARD for debugging the IP conflict thing - and the guys in the thread where it was hammered out).

* UI displays both configured and failed to config sometimes.
* PM's showing in status panel / other panels.
* Fix UI chat opening when in performance mode.
* Couple more help panels - more useful too ones.
* Verify homebrew xbox connectivity & test.
* Test autoconfig more (sometimes saying failed when working?)
* Make 'Close Engine' option work in UI - and other fancy options.
* Dedicated server option on status.
* Add option to use only specified LAN adapter to launcher.
* Engine Only / UI Only options in config - so can run on seperate PC's.
* Banning causing orb-death :'(
* Insert PM notification into main chat.
* Arena status not remembered properly by UI.

Hope this helps guys - those Halo games should run a little smoother with the new switching code in place - but as ever, let us know what you think.

Gentoox Magic news update and updated phpSysinfo
>> From ShALLaX on http://gentoox.shallax.com:
- Ok. The main reason I took magic down was to upgrade the kernel. However, reiserfs is determined to stop me from doing this. I constantly get a journal-601 error which means that a buffer write to the journal failed. I tried delaying the write attempt, I added code to retry the write attempt (it tried 1000 times then gave up), I even took out the retry attempt limit but this just caused the Xbox to get stuck in an infinite loop. In the end I had to resort dirty hack to "solve" for this... which was simply to take out the reiserfs_panic line which causes this lockup. It worked, I didnt lose any data, but its not ideal. For this reason, there is no kernel update as of yet and I will definitely have to move to a different filesystem for future releases. However... this obsoletes all previous versions. I'll have to look into a solution for this... but thats for another day.
What I have got done:
* Updated ALSA to 1.0.4.
* Updated GDM patch so the on screen keyboard works again.
* Updated xbvset so it works with the latest GDM.
* Removed openMosix
I've tested this on a clean installation of Home v3.0c and it all seems to work fine, so let me know. For now, I'm going to look into alternative filesystems.

- Checked the "Server Stats" link lately? phpSysinfo got revamped! I've added Xbox temperature monitoring to this new version along with Gentoox version checking. Go download it now!

Aquaduct 2 Public Beta 1 (Mac OS X)
>> Aquaduct(info) 2 is an XBox tunneling application for Mac that connects to the XBconnect servers.
From http://postpose.com/aquaduct/two/:
We are now conducting a public beta test of Aquaduct 2.
Aquaduct 2 is not finished software. It contains bugs. Though we're pretty confident that Aquaduct has reached a stable and non-dangerous state, the usual precautions about beta software should apply. We take no responsibility if it eats something it shouldn't and suggest that you keep important potential bug-food away from this software.
If you're interested in helping us work out Aquaduct 2's kinks, providing us with helpful feedback and putting the app up against new and scary situations, here are some details:

What you'll get:
* The power to play some Xbox Halo online. Lots and lots of Halo. And 45+ other System Link games too.
* The ability to register an XBConnect(info) Tag and log in to the XBConnect server, where you'll find lots of Windows users who also want to play some Halo. You can use an existing Tag if you have one.
* An Aqua-beautiful browser to list games. Lots and lots of games.
* Live sorting and searching tools to manipulate the games list. 'Cause it's so full.
* A little yellow Connect button, to join in on those games.
* A chat interface, for both the XBConnect chat rooms and your own Aquaduct channel.
* A slightly buggy buddy list to help organize your posse.
* A mostly-complete step-by-step guide to using Aquaduct.
* Stuff I have forgotten Aquaduct does.

What you won't get:
* Hosting is currently disabled. This is the Number One Outstanding Disabled Thing™, and will continue to be so until it's ready to be enabled. So please be patient about it.
* Detecting Xboxes over an Airport network, though a major priority, is currently turned off entirely; it seems to give Aquaduct the power to kill stuff. You can still use a wireless network if the Xbox is on a hard line to your Mac.
* We haven't localized the app for non-English languages. If you're a native (or very fluent) speaker of a non-English language, please contact us.
* There are various other minor problems, which we'll be listing elsewhere. Like acne pustules, you can ignore them, or fixate on them, but either way you'll just have to wait them out while we wave our dermatological instruments around for a bit longer. None of these mostly-cosmetic issues should stop you from playing some Halo. :)

Help Requested: Virtual Xbox CD Ripper
>> From BlueCELL:
Sorry for the Major Delays of Virtual Xbox CD Ripper(info) (VXCR). I have been really busy with another Project for work. If there's any one reading this that would like to be involved in this project please contact me (Via Forums).

I would like to Post this Project on Source-Forge, but I have never really worked with them, so if anyone that knows how to setup and manage an account with them please contact me.

Also, I would like to create a Team of Developers for this project. Maybe 4 to 6 diffrent people. This project is written in Visual Basic 6 and it requires you to know how to work with DLL's (which is already done) and how to work with Arrays and Data Structures, and ofcourse the General functions of Visual Basic 6.

Ok, so with that all said I just want to let yall know that the only thing that's holding back the application is the St.DB Module (but I know the problem, just a matter of having the time to fix it) and then few minors bugs in the Application. Then we'd need to add some Error Handlers. Pretty much thats it, just minor stuff.

If anyone is interested please contact me on the Xbox-Scene Developer's forum. Thanks in Advance!!!
