EvoX dashboard patcher for Drive G/partition7 support
>> We received this release from Paul Bartholomew (oz_paulb). After the work he done on adding LBA-48 (+137gb HDD) support to the xbox kernel ... he now released a patch for evo-x to add support for partition7 (drive G). As you might already know, with XBtool you can now patch your bios/kernel with LBA-48 support. There are 2 (main) ways to partition your +137gb HDD: Give all available space to parition6 (drive F) or give all available space till 137gb to patition6 (drive F) and all the rest to partition7 (drive G). Downside of first option is that older hacked kernels without LBA-48 support will cause problems to access/write on partition6 (drive F). Downside of option2 is that homebrew software must add support for partition7. Avalaunch already added support for partition7 and now thanks to this patch released by oz_paulb, EvolutionX dashboard will also have support (yes, also format).
From the readme:
WARNING: This patch only works on EvoX dashboard v1.8.3752. If you attempt to apply this patch to a different EvoX dashboard version, it will most likely result in a crash and/or data loss!
I'm releasing 'Drive G/partition7' support for EvoX as a 'patch', rather than releasing a new dashboard .xbe file. This is because I assume that the EvoX dashboard contains Microsoft-copyrighted code (from the XDK), and I don't want to get into trouble for distributing any MS code. I assume that everyone can find the current EvoX dashboard .xbe in 'the usual places'. Starting with that, and with the included patch code, you'll end up with a new EvoX .xbe file that supports Drive G/partition7. The EvoX dashboard .xbe is a ~680Kbyte file. This is actually just a 'loader/decompressor' program that decompresses the 'real' EvoX dashboard .xbe (stored inside the 680Kbyte EvoX dashboard .xbe). The 'real' EvoX dashboard is about 3.7Mbytes. When you are finished with the patching process, your EvoX dashboard will be 3.7Mbytes (instead of 680Kbytes), since I didn't bother trying to figure out how to re-compress the .xbe.
Here's what my patches add to EvoX: 1. Drive G: is created at startup (along with all the other drives). This means other commands in EvoX.ini (like AutoAddItem) can specify G: in the path string. 2. Evox.ini Format command now supports Format g: 3. FTP commands formatpath/formatdrive now support partition7 (drive G:) 4. When starting FTP, drive G is listed in the 'root' along with all the other drives 5. Added variable SpaceG (just like SpaceF, but for G:). This allows skins to display free space on drive G:. 6. FTP 'hddinfo' command now supports G:
NOTE: In some of the places where I added G: support, I rode on top of existing code for F:. This means that the Evox.ini UseFDrive should be set to Yes in order for drive G: to work.
BatchFile Maker 1.01c Beta *updated*
>> From readme:
If you've downloaded this program, and gotten it working, you'll notice that this is somewhat the same as WinHME GUI. It is NOT, however, that program. At the moment, Saving files is not implemented, as opening files isn't implemented in WinHME Gui. This program is a preview of 4 hours of work, and was originally designed to show a concept idea that I had, of which worked. This tool will be either included as a separate tool in the GUI, or it'll be released as a separate program.
Update - v1.01c is already released. What's new/fixed: * To conserve some more resources, I made a few code changes, specifically in the advanced view. The user will not notice any changes, but it was necessary, and in the end, didn't change the exe's file size. (oh well...) * Updated readme * Made installer compress a bit better. ;)

X-B.I.T news
>> From dms-x-bit.com:
We can finally announce that the confirmed release date for the X-B.I.T is September 28th 2003. We relalise that the initial information was posted mid July, but we have spent a lot of time ensuring that the manufacturing process assures quality products and we also spent a lot of time testing and enhancing the PC software to make sure that it runs smoothly on the most recent PC operating systems.
We are first to bring a fully functioning USB flashing system to the scene, together with an unprecedented flash memory capacity which will offer greater compatibility for future BIOS versions. The X-B.I.T has been fully tested on V1.0-V1.3 XBX's and found to function perfectly.
We are sure that users will find the PC software easy and convenient to use. The POGO solution also improves on other manufacturers designs, by offering spiked pins to connect properly with the D0 bridge. The pin header solution and pre soldered wire solutions are available as no extra cost option (included), for experienced installers. Initial qty's will be limited, but we will manufacture steadily and constantly throughout the busy period to keep up with huge demand. (/Quote)

Prices Drop on Console Games ?
>> By Gene Emery on reuters.com:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Reuters) - The good news for computer game players is that prices have come down significantly and are likely to stay down throughout the coming holiday season, especially if the U.S. economy continues to struggle.
The trend has been obvious for months. A year ago, it was almost impossible to find a game for Xbox, GameCube or PlayStation 2 with a list price under $50. Today, it's much easier to find a game for $40, or less. For example, most of the 21 GameCube titles -- 71 percent -- scheduled for September release will cost $40 or less. About half of the 29 PS-2 games and 28 Xbox games coming out this month will be under $40. For games due out in November, list prices look higher, but may drop as the release date gets closer and developers realize that price cuts have become the norm.
From September through December, more than 150 titles are scheduled to be released on the PS-2 -- 20 more than for Xbox. GameCube continues to lag behind everyone else, even GameBoy Advance. At last count, GameBoy has about 97 titles coming out versus 92 for GameCube. Over 190 PC games are expected to be released over the same period.
Gentoox updates: Loadled, Disk space checking and Server statistics
>> Here are some updates done on gentoox the last few days:
Loadled This new script changes the colour of your Xbox LED depending on the current system load. The thresholds are variable and you can specify the LED colours/ patterns. Its a good idea to add this to a crontab and have it executed every 10 minutes or so. Try it out for yourself - extremely handy when you dont have any other visual output (i.e. using your Xbox as a server)! Download here
Disk space checking I've added disk space checking to Stardust, magic e-drive and magic f-drive. If you have less than 3.5GB free on the target drive, they will now fail. This should sort out potential dataloss errors and last-minute failed installations thus avoiding a lot of angry customers ;) No downloads/ updates required, its done automatically.
Server statistics Theres a new link in the left hand menu on this site called Server Stats. Click this link to see statistical system information about the Xbox that is hosting this site (uptime, ram, hdd etc...)! Server Stats
Dominion-X Calls it quits
>> I recieved a email from the group...here is what it entailed
The Dominion-X Goodbye Message.... Well it looks like we have caused quite an interesting days posting on the xbox-scene forums and it has highlighted to us that these forums have really degraded into a flamewars battlefield. 1) We released the bios that we were using personally for the reason of providing an alternative bios option and not to set our selves up as a contender for bios superiority. We had plans of occasionally releasing future bioses if they became available but not as an serious interest in the scene. 2) We did use 4817 (EvoX d6) as a basis for the bios we used as it was the most stable bios available in our opinion and it didn't have IGR which we aren't big fans of. We took 4817/d6 and added the current media flag patch and then stuck the LBA48 patches in it! When Iriez and Xantiam were emailed with the 0901 information we did make mention of the 4817 but we unintentionally left this out of the NFO (what a big mistake). 3) Dominion-X is nothing to do with EvolutionX(info), for fuck sake we aint even a group but a couple of guys who modified their own bios and wanted to share it. No wonder EvoX haven't developed anything for a while, they are probably sick of all this BS too. 4) Unfortunately its the newbies that lose out of all this because they won't have the same choice since we aint gunna contribute to the scene any further. 5) Xecuter, no flaming was intended by our IGR comments in the 0901 NFO but we just expressed our reason for non IGR bioses. 6) You can thank the xbox-scene forum regulars for us not doing any further releases, find someone else to modify bioses for ya or stick with the one groups release and no competition to improve development. We wonder whether this flaming is all co-ordinated and intentional to make us go away. 7) On the Xbox-scene news it seems that Xecuter are asking for people with X2 bios problems to help them debug them, at least something positive has come out of all this bullshit. RIP Dominion-X, good luck to the next bunch of Xbox hobbiest who think they can offer something to the scene whether it be big or small. We never tried to make a big deal about this stuff in the beginning, we just wanted to do something positive with the goal of helping some newbies (maybe thats why people are pissed at us cause we tried to help the NOOB). Anyone that wants to get our future bioses (chances are we'll want to modify some more one day) as they will not be released publicly please email dominion_x_ownz_ya_mother@yahoo.com and if we can be fucked we might send them to ya, don't count on it though! Goodbye from the bunch of guys who just wanted to have some fun and share it formerly known as Dominion-X
Dominion-X Based on Evox *updated*
>> Thanks to NghtShd the bios guru, for finding this info out.
If you take the dominion bios and load it into 1.0.8b6 (be sure it's b6). Then turn off the lba48 and enable DVD checking and save it it, then unpack it and unpack evox d.6 eject fix and compare the files there are only two blocks of data where they differ
The differences are also very small, and the way evox does the dashnames is in there, but they stuffed a little something in some slack null bytes
0x1eec77 and 0x1f05b are the offsets where they differ

Cxbx 0.7.8c
>> Caustik released a new version of Cxbx(info) (Xbox emu project). What's new/fixed: * Spontaneous CreateDevice failures fixed (many, at least) * Exe now able to generate into temporary directory, allowing games to be run from a read only device without path issues. * Finally, Cxbx.dll and Cxbx.exe enforce version synchronization. This should at least diagnose about 9 billion people's problems. * Very minor splash image tweaks

XBtool 1.0.8b7
>> NghtShd released a new version of XBtool(info). What's new/fixed: * LBA48 not fully tested! Use this at your own risk! * The kernel ID engine rewritten. It should be much more precise, but please report unrecognized or misrecognized kernels. * X scale patcher removed. There was an issue with the X scale patch which could cause some BIOSes to hang. May be added back later if anyone wants it. This has been a long standing issue, but no one reported it as a bug. I just happened to discover it while redoing the kernel ID engine. Since it could lead to a frag, I decided to do this release now rather than later. * Tested BFM versions of all BIOSes, but not fully tested with all possible options.

Dominion-X Bios 0902
>> From the nfo:
Changelog: 0902 - Works with the big Western Digital hard disks and a few other brands.
What we wanna say: What the fuck is up with this scene? We just share our own personal bios with the world and next thing we know people are accusing us of being lazy or not capable of including an IGR into our bios and telling us to leave our
excuses at the door
. Fuck that sort of comment really encourages us to share our stuff with the scene. As for testing the bios, where did Dominion-X say that the bios wasn't tested with games loaded on the HDD? Dominion-X has made no statements about our release on any forum or IRC and that stuff was never mentioned in the NFO. We fully tested the bios on the equipment we had available to us. The only thing we couldn't be fucked testing was the BFM (Boot from Media) version.
0901 was never released in a bid for Dominion-X to enter the bios scene and become the leader, we just wanted to share our shit and hopefully make it easier for newbies to have more choice without the need to use XBTool. So that being said you may see more Dominion-X releases and ya may not and if we do any further releases we'll most definately be adding IGR so all those who flame our skills can eat their words.
Any reason why Xbins aint hosting this bios?
Anyway have a nice day and have fun on ya Xbox (thats why we do this isn't it? For fun?)
Warning: As many people have discovered recently with the untested release of an Xecuter bios using this stuff without a programmer or some means of recovery can be disastrous. So take note of the following: IF YOU FUCK UP YOUR MODCHIP OR HARD DISK WITH THIS BIOS THEN DON'T COME CRYING TO US, IT IS AN *ALPHA* RELEASE AND MAY BE BUGGY.
Note: Release is now up on xbins. First was apparently accidentally forgot to be uploaded on xbins.

Update on LB48 (137GB +) bios status
>> from oz_paulb at the xbox-scene.com forums
Update: Don't choose "Partition 6 Takes Rest of the Drive" if you plan on using an existing drive (with data already on F:) that's > 137GB! This will increase the size of the partition assigned to F:, but since it was formatted while it was in a smaller partition, the FAT structures will not be correct. This will result in data corruption! Only choose this option if you intend to re-format the entire F: partition (or if you're starting with a new drive).
Dominion-X Bios 0901
>> Dominion-X: A new group entering the scene, with their first bios release. From the readme:
Dominion-X Bios 0901
Warning: As many people have discovered recently with the untested release of an Xecuter bios using this stuff without a programmer or some means of recovery can be disastrous. So take note of the following:
IF YOU FUCK UP YOUR MODCHIP OR HARD DISK WITH THIS BIOS THEN DON'T COME CRYING TO US, IT IS AN *ALPHA* RELEASE AND MAY BE BUGGY.
We created a hacked bios with the latest media flag patch for our own use some time ago as we haven't been happy with the stability of the current X2 bioses of late, and since oz_paulb's LBA48 bios hack (for hard disks over 137Gb support) has been made available we decided to incorporate that into our own bios and release it for public use. We did not add IGR into the bios as we think that this is much better left to the dashboards to handle as we have seen too many problems of late with bios-embedded IGR.
This bios boots to evoxdash.xbe followed by xboxdash.xbe
Initial results are as following (thanks to r0wdy for testing with his 300GB drive!)
Xbox boots up evoxdash.xbe as it should. F drive shows 0 (Yes, it is filled with data) F drive is 'visually' empty via ftp aswell. Launches homebrew games successfully, but unable to test commercial games launching from HD(as F is empty) Launching Games from dvd-r Successful.
Please post your feedback at the x-s forums here to help improve this bios.

XBtool 1.0.8b6
>> XBtool(info) is a bios editor by NghtShd. This beta version now includes PaulB's +137gb (LBA48) HD support (see development thread) in the kernel (use at own risk - it's beta!). Whats New/Fixed: * Warning: major code changes. Use only if you can recover from a bad flash. The 4978 patcher is experimental at this point. * Paul Bartholomew's LBA48 and partition table patches. (Not fully tested) * 4978.03 support added (dropped other two 4978 BIOSes, since they hang some machines). * Dialog rearranged. * Fixed crash in general dash patching function. * Changed the way colors are patched so rounding errors don't happen when the colors aren't changed.

Why ATI is ecstatic about its Xbox 2 deal
>> By Fuad Abazovic on theinquirer.net:
PRECISE DETAILS of ATI's Xbox 2 are still harder to find than a pin on a 940 Athlon 64, but there's a while before the console of consoles arrives – like 2005.
Nvidia sold two chips to Microsoft, one for graphics and one for the chipset but ATI will do something completely different, as the Monty Python refrain goes. ATI actually bagged a deal where it will simply send the marchitecture to the Vole, while another company will actually make it for the Xbox 2. All ATI is doing is giving away rights to its marchitecture to Microsoft, while Nvidia had the not so pleasant job of designing and then getting the chips made for the Satan of Satans. So someone needs to make an Xbox 2 motherboard as well, and we speculate that ATI might include its good friends at Sapphire to do that job. It's just speculation.
HT Editor 0.7cvs *XBE Support*
>> From readme:
This is the very first beta version of XBE support within HT Editor. This is more or less only a preview of what will hopefully soon be part of the official HT Editor package. Right now you can view the header, the imports and a disassembly of the XBE file.
Some features are just quick hacks and therefore could be crashed by malformed XBE files for now. This will be cleaned up soon.
TODO: 1) Make entrypoint/thunk address editable without by hand xoring 2) ... your ideas ...
Hexbe Beta 0.9.209
>> From readme:
{What is it?} The first of it's kind, Hexbe is an application that easily allows you to change up to 39 textures in "xboxdash.xbe" directly over ftp in just a couple of clicks. With user-control in mind, available is 4 sliders (1 for each of the channels Alpha, R, G, and B), and a Color Palette for the lazy asses out there. For the old school, stubborn hackers, included also is a manual patching technique, that can be executed and reisigned manually.
{Warnings} * Yes, you need a modchip to use this program. * Tested on xboxdash versions 4920 and 4627, does not work on "Pre-Live" dashboards. * Make a backup of your xbe, just in case. * Although you will find 7 textures with Alpha Values enabled... it is not recommended to these values. * When using the FTP Patch methods, you must use EvolutionX(info) as the server. (Not tested with other servers. * Make sure you specify the path for FtpPatch in the correct format Examples:: Valid Path = /C/Dashboards/xboxdash.xbe InValidPath = C:\Dashboards\xboxdash.xbe InvalidPath = C:/Dashboards/xboxdash.xbe
{Next Release} * Alot of future possibilities with this.....as new textures arise they will be added. * More error handling * The Possibility of patching the xbox4.xbx, GameHilite_01.xbx and Outline.xbx * Previews! * Open for suggestions.
News from XLink Crew: XServers working fine again
>> We received this news/mail from the XLink Crew:
Hello again, Just to let everyone know that the server issues were resolves.. For anyone who is interested, imagine a large mySQL table - 16000 records large - containing the XLink user info. Imagine it being SELECT'd a lot.. Imagine someone forgetting to INDEX on 'Username' :D
I'm glad to say that this is fixed now and the XServer is running perfectly - 230 users on today, and load is < 10%.
Also, for developers. I've finally got chance over the next day or two to get the OpenXL(info) up and running. I'm gonna be posting up some documentation in the OpenXL bit of our site, and I'll be contacting a few people who I know to get some homebrew games live on the XServer...
Thanks TD / TL / XLCrew
