Gentoox: Complete rewrite of fanctl + bugfixes
>> From shallax on gentoox.shallax.com:
[QUOTE]
The other version was pretty damned confusing and could lead to people mixing up the number ordering. So now, I present the latest version of fanctl!
There is also now a nice, and neatly formatted help page (although the formatting doesnt transfer into phpnuke). The switches are now logical and simple and can be invoked in any order. Furthermore, if some switches are omitted from the command line, default values will now be automatically selected.

Again, this has been extensively tested for logic holes and it all seems fine. The 20-100% fan speed safety measure is still enforced, and if the fan speed hits 20%, the controls will be locked (stops other potentially malicious programs from messing with the fan speed, so long as they dont unlock the register first!).
Follow the normal proceedure to upgrade: 'magic fix monitors && magic'
Note that youll need to download the updated loadfan/ loadfanled scripts (if you are using them). The new fanctl makes managing these scripts so much easier - see for yourself!

And bugfixes:
Scox pointed out a bug in my code where occupied memory could get overwritten causing things to crash/ segfault, this has been fixed. Also, if the user now specifies only the --scale f or -t f switch, the default temperatures now dynamically update to °F without --lowtemp X and --hightemp X having to be specified (before they would stay at 40 and 50 respectively no matter which scale was used).

Just noticed I had left some debug code in there (oops), thats gone now. Also, I've added a verbose switch (see --help), using this outputs more information (which has also been nicely cleaned up). Also with this release, I cleaned up the output of 'xboxtemp', its all lined up now and it still functions with phpsysinfo-xbox!

MCPX v1.1 Toolkit
>> From Team "Daydream":
[QUOTE]
Due to problems ...

ok, a more enhanced version

Team Daydream presents mcpx1.1 Toolkit v2.0

Due to some people thinking they are Gods, i show them now, how far the development in real is.

All people think, there are only 3 methods (wraparound, swaput, Xcode
TEA hash trick) for creating a hacked bios.

BUT this is false

There exists a lot of other methods, but kept secret. (i never told
anybody)

As some subjects think, they are the masters, i today present a new method.

This new method only works on 1.1, but the bios can be made multiboot able with wraparound trick then too(only wraparound for 1.0 version).

the thing is simple:
you know, there is a RSA key inside the intro-loader of the flash, and there is a 2048 bit rsa signature inside the flash.
Unbreakable you may think ?

hehe
you only have to factor the key, and you have won.

This tool is very simple to use, use an
- ->Original Introloader (the thing inside the tea hashsection)
- ->provide a 2bl crypted with the RC4 key, which this tool reports
- ->provide kernel
- ->assemble all together

open the file
press: Sign the Bios:

Save the bios.
Ready

your bios is signed new, and ready for using.
cool, isn't it ?
you can check it, it will report good condition.

for 1.0 dualuse, i recommend:

dump the certificate key, eeprom, etc into the free section (0x90 are
there) into the top rom of the flash (the 1.0 keys logicall)
make in the last staement of the X-codes a check of 1.0 or 1.1, (seen
in evox bios) and implement some jump back code to the microloader at offset 0x0 in ram.

Afterwards sign the bios.
Also the Xcodes are hashed with the cryptgraphic routines ...

so after the mcpx jumps into memory 0x0 .. it executes .. you jump
back to introloader beginning.
as the mcpx is swapped out, the 2bl finds the eeprom, hdd keys in the flash, and not inside the mcpx.

All roger, should work, but i have no 1.0 box for testing.

neXgen Alpha review #1
>> From xboxopensource.com:
[QUOTE]
BCIcdrz (Michael Phillips), Review.

This version of nexgen i recieved, was quite good, needs improvement. I listed a few thing below, I liked the dash but
I will stick with evox for now. But if they improve it, i might switch to it.

Things i like to see improved
1) the rotating ring in the main menu is too wireframed makes my eye bug out
2) be nice if there was a setting for menu scroll speed in the config file, little to fast
3) be nice if the auto add couldnt detect the apps name, list its folders name instead (got a few unknowns in the apps section)
4) more direct paths in the config file be nice
5) its ether my tv or the green in the dash is a bit bright
6) cant wait for ftp thing to get done, be nice to transfer files form one xbox to another.
7) replace the blank program icon with black not white, or even same green as it suroundings

More will come when I explore nexgen more, or get a newer version.

MechInstaller not working on new dashboard!!
>> MechInstaller's system to force installation of a specific dash version (where the font exploit works fine) isn't working if you have the new 'Live 2.0' dash.
From Xbox-Linux:
[QUOTE]
If you have Xbox Live, and you enter the menu item XBOX LIVE on the Dashboard, Microsoft will do a forced update the Xbox Dashboard (=you don't have the choice to say no) through your internet connection.
The new Dashboard has the font bug fixed, the font exploit will not work any more.
Although MechInstaller was designed to downgrade the Dashboard to an older version, Microsoft found some way so that this won't work.
Don't update your Dashboard, or MechInstaller won't work any more!

[QUOTE]

This patch only allow you to mod original xip's without having to resign your xboxdash.xbe.
Adding xip's still need a resign but only once, after you can modify your freshly added xip's without resigning.
Moreover this patch include no-reboot on XBDash (IGR still works).

More Xbox v1.4 news
>> From Ubergeek on forums.xbox-scene.com:
[QUOTE]
Took the thumb out of my ass and tested v1.4 today along with the help of Troed.

* First discovery is that a hacked X2 bios (4977) was flashed onboard and would not boot. Indicating possible TEA changes (initially assumed RC4 but that was unfounded as per the next finding)
* Second discovery is that v1.4 Bios is identical to the 5101 Retail Bios. This of course indicates no RC4 changes.
* Third discovery is that the 5101 would not boot over LPC indicating more hardware changes.

So if any of you want to become guinea pigs......
* Try 5101 Original Bios with your LPC mods on a v1.4 - just to confirm findings
* Try 5101 Original Bios with a 29 wire mod
* Post your findings in here - keep it serious no silly questions - thanks

Thanks to Troed for his support - a huge talent in the scene.

Audio Exploit Solution For Live2.0
>> AnThRaX posted a solution of people who use the audio dashboard exploit and still want to access Xbox LIVE. (normally LIVE would update your dash to the new version that is protected against the font/audio exploit):
[QUOTE]
What you do is get a backup of your C: drive Before you updated to 2.0. Then you delete the whole contents of the C: Drive after you updated to 2.0. Then, you replace the C: drive with your backup that was 1.0 and not the new 2.0 update, and the Audio Exploit will Still work even with live and you WONT HAVE ANYMORE UPDATES!

Heres a easier way of doing it.
1.) Send your C: Drive to your PC before you update to the newest 2.0 live dash.
2.)Now, after you've ftp'ed that over, you then go to your xbox, update to 2.0 live dash.
3.) After thats completed then connect to the xbox via ftp. Then delete all contents of your C: drive.
4.)Now, With your C: backup that you backuped before you updated. Send that to your C:.
5.) Check the Audio Exploit if it works.
6.)Post feedback
7.)Say how much of a god AnThRaX is

No more updates, and you then have your dear old audio exploit back.
I'm not responsible for anything you do to your xbox

Not sure how long this will be working, but apparently for now it works fine.
For those who don't understand what this news is about: no it doesn't mean you can go play on LIVE with backups.

WinHME v1.48 with NEW version of HME (Neutered Edition)
>> Jimmsta released a new version of WinHME Gui(info). What's new/fixed:
* Made a fixed version of Win32HME.
- This means that there should not be anymore problems when recompressing the cache map files.
* Minor adjustments to the cvs code makes all the 'advanced' features dead.
- They aren't in the source code at all, and all traces have been removed. HME is now working better than ever, and no more dirty-disc errors for everyone ;)
* The program name no longer includes the "GUI" part. I got tired of writing gui all the time...
- The newest version looks more and more like a launching app for many different GUI's and halohacking apps.
* Small bug fixes with option boxes fixed
- No longer limits you to clicking the same OS more than once (That was an easy fix)
- The Text Output checkbox has been idiot-proofed... at least I think it has...
- The GUI itself is a little bit bigger, with more 'elbow space'
* BatchFile Maker is now included. It has been tweaked, and now has a nice browse button. BAT file creation should be implanted within the next few days... or weeks, b/c of school.
* More credit given to the various program authors ;)
- PfhorSlayer finally gets credit for coding HME -- Sorry! --
- KornKob gets credit for BanshInject!
- And anyone else I forgot to mention, also get credit!
- Look at the About Box!!!
* This will be the last release that ran the old codebase. The new codebase is from the program "BatchFile Maker", and is more stable.
- Any bugs that seemed too annoying to fix are gone, and replaced with new features, and no, there're not like the features that you get with a new version of windows.... (not bugs)
- A new codebase that allows more error-controlling code, and allows for a more streamlined release system.
* The source code will be released for this version, and all the rest before it. Do what you wish with it.
- I will be accepting user feedback, and will add to the newer versions as I see fit. (Or by how many people request a certain feature).

* "Safe Mode" for people whose ISP's have decided HTTP1.0 isn't worth bothering with anymore.
* Userlist works fine now.
* Messenger mode add notification.
* WGN Topology (throwaway - but interesting).
* User list country filter.
* Couple of runtime errors fixed.
* Fixed WET11 support which was BROKEN in all builds up until now.
* No longer drops out of rooms mode games.
* Kick players / change room size fixed.
* Fixed stupid blank bit at bottom of main / chat windows on non-tarty-xp-themed systems.
* Moved to server model 27.
* Shows lobby area in userlist - not just Rooms (None).
* More stuff - it's late, I've forgotten most of it.. If you notice it - great - if you dont, fair enough... :)

New XBox LIVE 2.0 Dashboard!
>> Seems like the new LIVE dashboard has been released today. One day earlier then expected.
Your dashboard will AUTOMATICLY update to LIVE 2.0 first time you connect to Xbox LIVE. Xbox LIVE is very busy atm, so if you get Xbox Live not Responding, Please try again later ... try again later ;)

Information we got so far from forums.xbox-scene.com (don't take any of this as confirmed yet):
- It will auto sign-in on LIVE when when you turn up your Xbox - so make sure to DISABLE your modchip when you boot to your MS Dashboard (means you must use a hacked bios that boots to another file then xboxdash.xbe - so your original bios (modchip disabled) will boot xboxdash.xbe (MS Dash) and your hacked bios will boot for example evoxdash.xbe (ex. Evox Dash) - most xbox are probably already modified like this).
Update: looks like there's an option to turn off the auto sign on.
- So far people with modchip disabled didn't get banned - so looks like MS doesn't scan HD yet. (it's possible banning takes 1-2 days ... so we'll have to wait some time before we can confirm anything)
- Go on live with modchip enabled will get you banned (nothing new here, but keep in mind just accesssing the MS Dash will also log you in on LIVE - so DO NOT go to your MS Dash with modchip enabled)
- Artifex (Team Pheonix) confirmed the audio (st.db) and font (.xtf) exploits will not work anymore on the new dash. It's always possible MS left other exploits in the dash ofcourse ;)
- The 007/MA gamesave exploit itself will ofcourse still work - and moving the hacked gamesaves to HD also still works fine.
- The new 'full' dash version is 5659 rev. 17e4cd00

Note: when I'm talking about 'modchip enabled' I mean use a 'hacked bios', so same is true if you have a TSOP flashed with a hacked bios.

Note2: I strongly suggest you take a backup of your HD before you upgrade ... so you can always return to the old setup if problems occur.

Swap-less Audio Hack *updated*
>> From a-b (Alex B.) on forums.xbox-scene.com:
[QUOTE]
It was found that the Audio Exploit was also triggered when doing an HD to HD music copy instead of a CD to HD, thanks to Xboxhakur.

I made a new version of the Audio Exploit that doesn't need any swap trick with an audio CD, but still needs a key combo.

Install it like the old Audio Exploit, and to trigger it you can either use the old Audio Exploit method (with an Audio CD), or the new swap-less one :

Go into Music, then don't choose Audio CD but the No-name soundtrack below it, Copy, Copy, New Soundtrack, Done. Linux should be running (use the linux.xbe file provided with the old Audio Exploit).
The pressed keys are : A, Down, A, Down, A, Right, Right, A, A, A

A new dashboard has been released today that stop people from using linux without a modchip (for now) so you'll need the old live dashboard.

NOTE: There's now one thing that can go wrong, be sure to ALWAYS choose "New Soundtrack" at the end, and not the No-name soundtrack, else the audio exploit won't work anymore and you'll have to re-install it using 007/MA (but your xbox and dashboard will work as usual). So if you're scared because of that, better use the old Audio Exploit.

Q: Does it run backups ?
A: No, linux only.

First Details: Inside the Xbox 2 - Part 1
>> From teamxbox.com:
[QUOTE]
Both ATI and Microsoft executives are absolutely refusing to answer questions on the Xbox successor, but that didn’t stop us in our mission to be the “Insider’s Choice for Xbox Information.”

We’re proud to bring you today the very first info on the Xbox 2 GPU. Our highly placed source within the industry informed us that the graphic technology powering the Xbox successor is a derivative of the R500, the successor of the R420 to be unveiled later this year at Comdex.
This graphic chip has been in design for longer than a year at ATI’s Marlborough, Mass. office and much like the Xbox’s nVIDIA GPU, the Xbox 2 graphic chip will also be a custom silicon that will have the R500 as its core technology.
This graphic chip is aimed at the next version of the DirectX API, most probably called DirectX 10, which is already in development and simply code named: DirectX/LH. LH stands for Longhorn, the next major desktop Windows release, which will follow Windows XP.

XboxDash-Hacked v1.1
>> From the nfo:
[QUOTE]
This latest updater for the original Microsoft Dashboard now covers both 10027100 and 1012a700 versions of the dash. All known bugs from previous versions have been eliminated except for the memory card issue and the 8gb stock HD issue. First and most importantly - they are NOT compatable with memory cards.
If you have a memory card in your controller when you go to the memory menu - it will tell you it has just formatted your card.
And it does. Seeing as how you needed a chip and ftp access to your xbox to even put the dash on in the first place - this shouldn't really be an issue. Saves can be ftp'd on to your box - and if you need to take a save on the go to a friends house - put the card in - it'll be formatted for you - but you can still save to it afterwards. The other known issue is with a stock 8gb HD with no F partition. There's a simple fix for this one though thankfully. If you happen to be stuck with the stock 8gb HD - simply edit default.xip/default.xap - scroll down into the auto fill function and replace all the checks on Partition6 with Partition4 or 5. Simply replacing them all with Partition1 will result in multiples of all listed titles - so go with an existing, non-utilized partition :)

Your Options...
the following patchers can be applied to the files you patched with
the Base Model Patcher. The names are pretty self explanatory, but here
are the descriptions never-the-less...

Blue-CellWall-Orbs
Blue dash with the CellWall effect in background and our custom orbs.

Blue-CellWall-Orbs-Panels
Blue dash with the CellWall effect in background, custom orbs, and panels.xbx used to give menu panels their color/texture. Replacing panels.xbx in...
(can be any desired size image - currently 256x256)

mainmenu5.xip
memory_files2.xip
Message.xip
music2.xip
Music_PlayEdit2.xip
settings3.xip
...will change the look of ALL the panels in your dash.
Usefull in skinning if you want to use textures/colors not available through presets you can alter with HeXbe.

Blue-NoCellWall-Orbs
Blue dash without the CellWall effect in background and our custom orbs. The lack of a CellWall effect makes it easier to see your custom backgrounds.

XBtool 1.0.8b10
>> NghtShd released a new version of XBtool(info). What's new/fixed:
* Added fan speed option.
* Made oz_paulb's kernel expansion independent of LBA48 code so that future patches can utilize the kernel expansion (the fan speed patch takes advantage of this).
* Redid the LED patch to use the kernel expansion.
* This build has been tested on every supported BIOS, but only BFM version. The LBA48 code has been sightly modified and not fully tested.

xbepack 0.1
>> From nfo:
[QUOTE]
[OVERVIEW]
In 1998 I was one of the first 3 persons who released Win-PE crypters. Now 5 years later I am proud to present you the first publicly available packer and crypter for XBOX executable files. To my knowledge there exists only one other XBE packer which is used to pack the evolutionX binary. As far as I know the packer itself was never released to the public. While this other wrapper is only a packer xbe-pack includes some little tricks that should protect your homebrew code against curious eyes.

[TECHNICAL FEATURES]
xbe-pack adds a new section to the xbefile. For compression it uses aplib. For now all sections are switched to preload. Support for load on demand is already in the works. (release early, release often) For the moment the decrypter itself is protected with anti debugging code that is similiar to the stuff I had implemented in the MechInstaller(info). Additionally the kernel thunktable is protected against simple rebuilding. Support for function based encryption based on .map files is in the works.

Xbox Dash Patchers Released
>> The XboxDash CReW released new patches for the MS Dashboard. From the readme:
[QUOTE]
This release is really 5 in 1. All have the autofill and soundtrack functionlity as well as a new more user configurable config.xap file. Many options were added to it so be sure to thoroughly go through it the first time you set it up. Also included in all versions are a couple of firsts... the first time most of you will see a beta menu we have revived :) And also the first 21 xip dash - thanks to the use of a no xip hacked xbe. Unfortunately due to this fact these patches are only compatable with the version 4920 dash (xboxdashdata.10027100). Before I get into the descriptions of each patch I must stress the few known bugs that we have found.

Now on to the good stuff....

* Xbox Dash 10027100 Stock Base Model Patcher.exe
This is the first step for any of the desired results. All the other patchers in this release were designed to be run on the files you will get as a result of this patcher. So if yo uwant a blue dash with the cellwall effect, run this patcher first - then run the Xbox Dash 10027100 Blue with CellWall Patcher on the files you just patched. The base model is just as it sounds - a stock looking dash with all the goodies we could pack in it (for now hehe)

* Xbox Dash 10027100 Green with CellWall Patcher.exe
Running this patcher on patched base model files will give a green dash with the cellwall effect in the background, and a little something extra in your dash :) This is a skinned dash with a little eye candy we threw in to make up for not having the save icons in the orbs yet. Read below on how to further skin this mod.

* Xbox Dash 10027100 Green No CellWall Patcher.exe
This patcher will result in the same the last one - but with no cellwall effect in the background so your custom backgrounds can be clearly seen. Again - read below on skinning.

* Xbox Dash 10027100 Blue with CellWall Patcher.exe & Xbox Dash 10027100 Blue No CellWall Patcher.exe
Same as the green ones - but kicked up a notch with everyone's favorite blue mod ;)

007 TSOP Flash Kit v1.0 alpha 6 (based on raincoat 0.5)
>> From nfo:
[QUOTE]
A TSOP flash kit based on Linux and raincoat 0.5 by andy@warmcat.com. The xbox hardware has to be modified according to the "TSOP method", in other words an xbox with onboard flash write enabled. The original game "007 Agent Under Fire" is needed to load the "007 TSOP Flash Kit" as a regular gamesave.
