Xecuter2.2 - Xbox v1.3 LPC hacked
>> From Ubergeek (Team Xecuter) on forums.xbox-scene.com:
Team Xecuter proudly presents yet another first.
We have successfully cracked the LPC port of the new v1.3 Xbox.
Xecuter 2.2 will be released next week - all orders at the factory for Xecuter 2.1 Pro will be upgraded to v2.2 Pro.
It took many many hours and countless tests over the last 2 days to crack this baby - and as usual we haven't let you down.
We were kinda hoping it was a motherboard hack which could utilize all mods but currently we cant see a way (although we will still be working on this along with the likes of the Xodus guys)
X2.0 and 2.1 will not work on the v1.3 sorry - we had to completley recode our LPC host
I also forgot to mention that X2.2L+ is ready also has a new LED indicator to show when d0 is connected / aligned correctly - this will work on v1.0 v1.1 v1.2 and v1.3
ATI shares enjoy rumors of Microsoft deal
>> From reuters.com:
TORONTO, June 13 (Reuters) - Rumors that ATI Technologies Inc. has been selected for a major contract by Microsoft Corp. helped push up the shares of the graphics chip maker on Friday, but analysts were not buying the rumor. Shares of ATI rose 46 cents, or 5.8 percent, to close at $8.40 on Nasdaq. On the Toronto Stock Exchange, the stock finished 40 Canadian cents, or 3.7 percent, higher at C$11.18, while the broader information technology sector was down 2.4 percent
According to a computer games Web site, ATI is said to have been selected by the world's largest software maker to supply graphic technology for the still unannounced next generation Xbox console. The Web site says Microsoft will dump Nvidia Corp. because of its inability to work cohesively with the chip designer.
X-ecuter2 tutorials updated
Cxbx 0.7.2
>> From Caustik:
Cxbx is progressing extremely well, it won't be long now before we start to see some graphics on retail games. As you can see in this batch of screenshots, textures are displaying very nicely! Up next is support for complex meshes, vertex shaders, pixel shaders, push buffers, and some other 3d emulation. X-ecuter2.1 Lite pictures
>> We just got our Xecuter2.1 Lite sample from our sponsor over at system-mods.com. For those who don't yet the Xecuter2.1 Lite is a 'revision' of the orginal Xecuter2.0 Lite. It has essentially the same features as its previous version, but with: * an external switch module (modchip enable/disable, bank 1/2 selection , flash protection enable/disable) * There's also a led on the external switch module to show if you modchip is on or off * 2x hyper Blue LEDs on mod chip. No reason (just looks really cool!) * Solder pad space to solder your own custom LED(s)
ATI instead of Nvidia on Xbox2
>> From theregister.co.uk:
Microsoft has dropped Nvidia in favour of the graphics chip maker's arch-rival, ATI, as the provider of the graphics technology to be incorporated into its as yet unannounced next-generation Xbox console. So says a report on Internet gaming-oriented web site Spong, citing "senior development sources in the UK".
Certainly Microsoft and Nvidia haven't had any easily relationship during the life of the current Xbox. The highly competitive and price-sensitive nature of the console market required Microsoft to be flexible on price. Nvidia is believed to have been decidedly inflexible when it came to helping the software giant achieve its pricing goals. Microsoft wanted to pay less for its chips than originally agreed, but Nvidia (quite understandably) stuck to its guns.
But more prosaic reasons may lie behind the decision - if such as decision has been taken. ATI has a Pentium 4 bus licence from Intel; Nvidia does not. Microsoft would undoubtedly be looking at a more advanced CPU for Xbox 2 than the current console's Pentium III, and the P4 is a logical step up. If there is an ATI connection, then that would seem to preclude the use of an AMD chip, for which Nvidia would be the most logical partner thanks to its nForce expertise. Indeed, the current Xbox's chipset is essentially an nForce geared to work with a PIII.
ATI is nevertheless a problematic partner for Microsoft as it is already Nintendo's chosen graphics contributor for the next-generation GameCube. Or is that a problem? Spong suggests that Nintendo and Microsoft are natural allies against market leader Sony - my enemy's enemy... - and this opens the door to co-operation between the two, with ATI as a third member of the alliance.
Xbox v1.3 boots hacked bios ...
>> There has been a very interesting technical discussion in our forum about the new v1.3 xbox.
People close to Team Xecuter, Team Xodus aswell as 'independents' have worked together and tried alot of different possibilities and came to the conclusion that the MCPX-code didn't change. (exploits like the RC4-check bypass (used in multi-version bioses) have not been removed by Microsoft, they also didn't use a better hashing algorithm). This means no new bios must be made (a multi-version bios will work fine).
Ubergeek (Team Xecuter) succesfully booted his v1.3 xbox with a X2 4976.02 bios flashed on his TSOP. (he replaced the original 256k Winbond TSOP with Amic 29F040 512k ('cause he had problem to write on the winbond chip) ... that's also a nice hack ;))
The problem on the new xbox version are the LPC points. "D0" is still there and doing it's work but Team Xodus pointed that Microsoft changed something with 1 of the LPC points: LFRAME (pin#3) is 'gone' (it's not connecting with the MCPX anymore).
Homebrew 29-wire (or optimized gen2 12-wire) modchips have not been tried yet, but it's expected these will still work. (flashed with a multi-version bios)
Now that they know the exact problem - they can try to work on a solution. We'll report more as soon as there's something important :-)
You can also read the whole discussion here (please only reply if you have something important to say - don't ask stupid questions in that thread)
Also note that there's still no decent way to see the difference between a v1.2 and v1.3 ... we will try to find a visual difference as soon as we manage to find a v1.3.

Xecuter FlashBIOS (Cromwell)
>> From Team Xecuter:
About time we released our own version of the Cromwell. Very clean code - no bloated Jpeg libs, easy to read onscreen text with no crappy logos / images / advertising. Works with most flash roms and mods (inc cheapmods and X2 of course). Now with added erase / programming progress bar. Can use BIOS.BIN, CROMWELL.BIN, LINUXBIO.BIN, BIOSUPGD1.BIN, XECUTER.BIN for the flash rom image name (pointless yeah but there's so many different tutorials out there on how to create your image - this may help a newb or two). Very fast and simple to use - will release the sources under GPL once the code has been cleaned up
XBConnect 3.0 Update
>> From xbconnect.com:
First off let me say thank you on behalf of the XBConnect Team to the users for being so patient with the release of 3.0. XBC 3.0 is the biggest and most aggressive change XBC has ever undergone. Not only has the program gone under allot of changes and additions but also new servers were purchased and new software for the servers put in place to support XBC 3.0. So with that said we had to extend the beta testing longer then normal just to ensure everything is working properly.
The current beta release has been function great over the past week. Bio}{azard informs me he will be adding a few features tonight to it and we will begin an open beta session for all users to try the beta version this week. Then go to the final release of XBC 3.0 this weekend.
So stay tuned to the website for the 3.0 open beta download. And thanks again for your patience.
xbmp is soooo cool that I decided to use it. I used relax for awhile but it doesn't fit well for me and sometimes is little bit unstable. So I became to built my own streamer. Actually I'm happy about the first result, just few days of code. If somebody like it, just let me know and I will improve it with other features.
'Build an Xshok Controller' on TechTV
>> From techtv.com:
Is the 'rumble' feature on your Xbox controller too wimpy for you? Kevin Rose spices things up with electricity. Watch Wednesday 6/11 at 7 p.m. and Thursday 6/12 at 8 a.m., 12 p.m. Eastern.
Taking it to the next level I started thinking, "What could I do to make the gameplay more interesting, more exciting? We've added beer and gambling. There has to be something else." Enter Xshok. Remember that old James Bond movie where they battled for world domination by playing a videogame that would shock you? That's what gave me the idea. If I got punched, I wanted to feel the punch. And let me tell you -- 20,000 volts packs quite a punch.
Read all the instructions how to make this on techtv.com or watch "The Screen Savers" Wednesday 6/11 at 7 p.m. or Thursday 6/12 at 8 a.m., 12 p.m. Eastern. if you have TechTV.
Operation Project X update
>> We received this news from the Operation Project X crew (they are trying to find the private RSA key to sign Xbox software - Xbox Linux Contest PartB):
A lot has changed with Operation Project X over the past few months. We have developed clients for almost every OS, and we've rewritten a completely brand new stats server that is MUCH better and faster than the old one. We're doing pretty good so far, 35 trillion keys checked to date, and we expect to get to 100 trillion by the end of this month. Join the effort at http://www.operationprojectx.com
It's true that's the chance they manage to crack a 2048-bit RSA key using brute force in a reasonable time is near impossible ... there's always a factor 'chance' :-)
You can download the different clients from their website. Please fill in "XBOX-SCENE.COM" as teamname when you sign-up :-)

Who is Myxomatosis for? It's for those who wish to simplify the configuration and menu authoring process for Media X Menu. No XML knowledge needed.
What isn't Myxomatosis? Myxomatosis is NOT an MXM skin designer app. But fear not, a designer is in the works.. and half-way done. =) By a skinner, for a skinner.
