W.I.P. BlackStormX v2.0
>> From BobMcGee on blackstormx.com:
[QUOTE]
Sorry about the lack of updates recently. Rest assured BSX is not dying or anything. The entire codebase for 2.0 had to be redone and it has been a slow and tedious process, but we are proud to announce that 2.0 wont have a scrap of tHc code in it. There are several projects and ideas in the works that are going to blow your minds, but we have decided to put them in future releases to expedite 2.0's release. Tayior's xbox recently experienced a melt down. Our sponser was kind enough to send him a new chip...thanks Mr. Modchips. The release should come soon after the chip arrives.

Tokyo Wars Weekly Update
>> Tokyo Wars is a homebrew tank game in an urban environment currently in development by Team AfterShock. From shizno on aftershock.xbox-scene.com:
[QUOTE]
Okay well from now on out I will be releasing news weekly instead of whenever I do something mildly interesting.

Sooooo whats new is I have done some tank physics, so now I can have footpaths in the city, and the tank will go up and down them accordingly. I wrote it myself so its no HaVoKZzz shit but I just dont give a fuck, the tank center of gravity is right and it alters pitch/yaw properly so its good.
I ended up decreasing the level size a tiny bit, because tanks are so god damn slow, the levels are still pretty large mind you so its not really major news.
I got a rudimentary tank model format going, not to spoil any surprises but this is big, big news ;) I will continue to expand it as needed, the more its expanded the bigger the 'big news' becomes ;)
Theres one other issue I'd like to address and that is people asking whats up with Super Smash Bros, well as some of you know there was a little flame war by some kid (I forget his username but you can search if interested) which kind of turned me off (yeah, and the whole model 500 unique models thing ;)), so I am currently working on Tokyo Wars, and ONCE it is finished Super Smash Bros development WILL continue, and WILL be fucking dope. Which is good news for all interested.

Here's a little weekly screenshot, as you can see the level is quite nicely big, but remember Im only a week or so in dev, which means I have no unique building models... so just imagine variety for now ;)

Xecuter FlashBIOS v2.6 BETA
>> Team Xecuter released a beta version of their new Xecuter FlashBIOS(info):
[QUOTE]
We have updated the Linux bios that we distribute with X2 mods to co-incide with the release of the X2.6. As you can see we have added a couple more features that will be of use.

v2.6 Update:
* Updated Cromwell(info) from v2.3.2
* HDTV / Svideo Support for Conexant / Focus (v1.0 - v1.5)
* Composite video support for Xcalibur (v1.6)
* New Unlock / Lock HDD feature - works on v1.0 - v1.6
* New Load Bios from HDD feature

We have tested this on all boxes from v1.0 to v1.6 - however we prefer to get feedback from the public in order to jump on any unforseen errors.
Please test loading bios from hdd and flashing / loading bios from disc and flashing / unlock / lock hdd / video outpout reports (especially for v1.6).
For v1.6 the bios is COMPOSITE VIDEO compatible only.
As usual - even tho we have taken great care in this build and tested it ourselves we cannot guarantee it will work for you - so we will not be held responsible for a stuff xbox yadd yada yadda
Bios will boot on all mods but will flash X2.x Mods only. Unlock / Lock should work fine with all other mods too.
Once we are satisfied with the stability we will of course release the full sources.
We look forward to your feedback in this thread:

XNick v0.1

[QUOTE]
So you might be asking what the purpose of this app is?
Well MY purpose of this app was to be sure NO ONE could EVER change the Xbox Nickname.xbn with any game. Well in theory, it can be, however everytime you reboot your xbox, this app loads before the dashboard, which in favor reloads a nice backup of your nickname.xbn each time :-)

You have a few options on how to use this application.
1) Have it load before a dashboard.
2) Run anytime you wish.

Boyd Multerer - Developing for Xbox and How was Xbox Live developed?
>> Channel9 (a Microsoft-run blog for developers) posted 2 interesting video interviews with Boyd Multerer (Development Manager) about Xbox Live and developing for Xbox:
[QUOTE]
* How was Xbox Live developed?
C#? SQL Server? What place do these things have in a world of videogames? A lot, Boyd told us. Listen in.
Go watch the 1:20 video on channel9.msdn.com

* Developing for Xbox
Ever wonder what it takes to build a game for the Xbox?
His answer? Game development today is dramatically different than it was back in the old days when a developer or two could make a bleeding edge video game over a weekend. Today a game development team has more artists than developers.
Does this trend in game development predict a trend that'll happen in business applications? Is there still a role for a super geek?

Xecuter 2.6 + X3 date + New X2.3B v1.6 Hack Tutorial
>> From Team Xecuter:
[QUOTE]
* To show we haven't ignored X2 users and the "budget" end of the market we have redesigned the X2 mod to have complete compatability over all Xbox versions.
Xbox-Scene
We're ready to produce these right now, just waiting on a few FlashBIOS v2.6 tweeks. If you wish to get an X2.3B I suggest you move fast as we are no longer shipping these to reellers and they are low on stocks.

* We can also officially confirm our own personal deadline for the release of X3 - August 23rd. We hope to have the X3 bios with 1.6 compatibility on that date but cannot confirm anything until its actually complete - howver we are making good progress.

ltools v1.7.5
>> Ldots released a new version of ltools(info) - Memcard UDE1/UDE2 exploit Installer/Uninstaller + a lot more (linux-toolbox). From ldots on forums.xbox-scene.com:
[QUOTE]
Hopefully it supports the v1.6 xbox now. This is not as big an update as I hoped, hence the .5 version number. Apparently the linux kernel still doesn't support the Xcalibur video chip of the v1.6 xbox to allow video output, but the installer should otherwise work on all xbox's - just without output for the v1.6

Changes:
* Fixed bugs that prevented the UDE installer to work from the commandline.
* Updated xtool to support the v1.6 eeprom (thank to Rmenhal for the help on the new eeprom hashes).
* Included a tool to edit the XBE region of eeprom and modified xtool to take some more safety measures when writing back the eeprom. Look here
* Reintroduced PBL-Lite(info)
* Omitted the Bios selection for the regular Phoenix Bios Loader(info) 1.4.1 and PBL-Lite. Only Phoenix Bios Loader - The Metoo Edition(info) support the Evox M8 bios anyway.

V1.6 owners
When running the installer from the graphical (MediaXMenu(info)) interface you will not get any video output on the screen. On the first install the installer will make a compressed image of the C-drive, for safety reasons and later restore capabilities. This will take some time, so just wait some minutes. When the installer is done the LED will turn from orange to blinking green, indicating that it's safe to turn off the xbox.
If you want to follow the installation interactively you can instead run the "mini-linux" from the MXM menu and make a telnet connection to the xbox (info in root post). Then type 'UDE' to start the installer which will take you through a series of setup questions.
For non-v1.6 owners who dont care about PBL-Lite there is no point in upgrading.

No European X04 event
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft will not be running its traditional European Xbox press event this year, a spokesperson for the company confirmed to gamesindustry.biz this afternoon. Instead, offices in individual territories will run their own smaller events to showcase games to each country's press and trade.
"We officially won't be doing a European X04 this year," a spokesperson for Microsoft UK told gi.biz. "Instead we'll be focusing on individual countries. So in terms of UK we'll have a showcase event with our key games - Halo 2, Fable, Jade Empire, Forza [Motorsport] - but we won't have one big European event."

Microsoft has not finalised the UK date, either, but anticipated something "later than X0 events previously were," which presumably means October or even later in the year. Microsoft also admitted today that events in individual territories would not necessarily take place on the same date.
The latter point in particular almost certainly rules out the new format as a launch platform for Xbox 2, currently codenamed Xenon, adding weight to suggestions that the next-generation platform will be unveiled at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 6, 2005, when Bill Gates delivers the pre-show keynote speech.

xboxhdm v1.9
>> Ldots released a new version of xboxhdm(info). What's new/fixed:
* Updated the "Sha1 Middle Message" hack of xbox_tool (xinfo) and hdtool (locking/unlocking) to support the v1.6 xbox eeprom encryption. No eeprom keys included - it's still legal :)
This means that xboxhdm can be used to build HDD's for v1.6 xbox's now.
* Introduced hdparm in xboxhd to be able to force the kernel to reinitialize the partition tables after the fatx tables are written (option 1) or wiped (option 5). This means no more rebooting.

Xbox 2 unveiling at CES 2005?
>> From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
Senior industry sources, speaking to gamesindustry.biz over the weekend, have indicated that it is extremely likely that Xbox 2 - currently codenamed Xenon - will be unveiled during Bill Gates' keynote address at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 5th, 2005.
Gates, Microsoft chairman and chief-software-architect, was unveiled as the keynote speaker by the Consumer Electronics Association late last week, prompting speculation that Microsoft would use the platform to unveil Xbox 2.
However, high-level talk amongst industry insiders, including analysts and publishers, suggests that there's more to this particular rumour than idle gossip. Microsoft has so far declined to comment, taking the line that it does not respond to "rumour and speculation", but has not issued a denial.

Proper Gentoox support for Xbox v1.6
>> From ShALLaX on gentoox.shallax.com:
[QUOTE]
Ok, thanks to some info from Gimli, I now have sound working on my v1.6 Xbox under Linux. I'm going to spend tonight implementing some changes in magic so that Gentoox will support v1.6 Xboxes. Let me know if I've broken anything! Thanks!

*Update*
Well, its all working fine here... numerous changes have had to be made to my i2c tools, the major problem now is that temperature cannot be monitored because it has either disappeared, or moved. "xboxtemp" will now report "??" as the temperatures and fanctl can only be used to set the speed in a one-shot style. The fanctl rc script has been updated to accommodate to this, there is now a ONE_POINT_SIX variable which can be set to 0 (off) or 20-100 (fan speed) which is executed on boot.
Anyway, heres proof that I have it all running.

Florida killings about dispute over Xbox
>> From CNN.com:
[QUOTE]
DAYTONA BEACH, Florida (AP) -- A man who was angry about a suspected theft recruited three teenagers to stab and beat six people to death with baseball bats in a Florida home, investigators said Sunday after making four arrests.
Remains of the six victims -- four men and two women -- were found Friday in the blood-spattered home.

Troy Victorino, 27, of Deltona was identified as the ringleader. Also arrested were Robert Cannon, 18, of Orange City, Jerone Hunter, 18, of Deltona and Michael Salas, 18, of Deltona.
"Officials struggling to come up with a motive for the crime believe the killings were committed over the theft of some clothes and an Xbox game system owned by Victorino," who has a criminal record for assault, a statement from the sheriff's office said.
