Microsoft planning slow rollout of Xbox network?
>> Microsoft is considering launching the Xbox network with limited game content, while major revisions get under way on one of the console's premier online games, Unreal Championship. Microsoft reiterated today that Xbox owners will be able to access network services six months following the console's launch, which puts the actual launch of the Xbox network in April 2002. The company also said that it will follow a similar schedule in Japan, meaning that the Xbox will go online in that territory around late July.
However, GameSpot has learned that the initial launch of the Xbox online network in North America may be a limited one. Industry sources would have us believe that Microsoft will launch its Xbox network with a variety of relatively low-profile puzzle games and limited services in terms of downloadable content. The full range of network services, complete with the release of complex online multiplayer games such as Unreal Championship, won't take place until late next year, perhaps even as late as the holiday season 2002, according to sources.

Sony corp. Vs. Microsoft corp.
>> Sony= $43,147,050,000
Microsoft= $362,568,959,280
Microsoft is as of today $319,421,909,280 dollars richer, roughly worth about 8.5 times more than Sony.
Here's something definitely worth mentioning- Bill Gates is worth $44,664,140,075--- slightly more than the entire Sony Corporation. And 500 millions bucks for marketing represents about .138% of the pool of money Microsoft has.

Sellers cash in on Xbox, GameCube demand
>> If you're looking for a Microsoft Xbox or a Nintendo GameCube online this holiday season, expect to pay a premium.
When they have the game systems in stock, online retailers such as Amazon.com, KBtoys.com and BlueLight.com are only offering them in bundles with games and extra controllers--and they're charging at least $100 over the prices for the consoles themselves. Consumers can find consoles without games and extras on auction sites such as eBay, but they should prepare for a bidding war.

No Xbox in Taiwan
>> A Microsoft Corp executive said on Wednesday his company had no plans to launch its popular Xbox game consoles in Taiwan for the time being.
``We do not have specific plans at this point for Taiwan. We have launched in the U.S. but we have to make sure in every country we enter that we have a complete solution around the product and that we have the ability to deliver the product,'' Richard Belluzzo, Microsoft's president and chief operating officer, told a news conference.

CNET: Hackers, programmers "improve" Xbox
>> Cnet wrote an article about the latest xbox mods & online possibilities.
From its cutting-edge graphics processor to the video game industry's first built-in hard drive, Microsoft's Xbox has been praised as one of the most technologically sophisticated game devices ever. But that's just not good enough for hardware and software experimenters who have been tinkering with the Xbox since the day it went on sale.

Rant of the year.
>> Ok, you gotta love XboxAddict, and I agree 100% with a letter one of their visitors sent them.
FUTURE SITUATION: 3 or 4 years from now, Xbox will be leading just in time for Sony to release Playstation 3 too early. Playstation 3’s sales will be dismal compared to PS2’s feverish release because everyone is anticipating Xbox 2’s release the next year. Xbox 2 is released (fully compatible with every single Xbox game made because of the DirectX coding) and very quickly Microsoft surpasses whatever lead Playstation 3 had put together. Sony falls one step behind Microsoft and never, ever again will Sony or any console producer regain lost market share. Microsoft is chopping away at Sony’s legs right now, and as soon as Sony losses enough to where Microsoft can reach it’s head--- BAM. Sony’s face is in the dirt and Microsoft is stomping on it.
This is what Microsoft does. This is why they are considered evil. This is why XBox will dominate.
Anyways read the whole letter, its worth it, over at XboxAddict.

The Xbox only costs 299$ right????
>> Here's the story. The other week, my buddy Jason went in search of an Xbox. Microsoft says the thing costs $299, and that's what he wanted to pay, plus tax. So he goes into a couple of stores, and this is what he finds: bundles. Now these bundles (the system plus an extra controller and your choice of x number of games) cost upward of $500. They're the newest rage among retailers this holiday season--and probably the only way you'll get your hands on an Xbox or GameCube before Xmas. But Jason doesn't want a bundle, he just wants the Xbox. And he just wants to spend $299, not $500.
Read how the retailers are sticking it to you without buying you dinner first over at CNET.

New GameSpy Mod (unl. players)
>> Well since I modded Gamespy to allow 8 player rooms, I started thinking about how the tunnel works...
Now when I was looking at the config file i nothices a late entry option. Now i cranked the players max upto 20 and am now hosting a multiple game Gamespy Tunnel Server...
Basicly once the game is launched people can still join and it will auto launch the tunnel... More than one person can host a game once in the tunnel, meaning large multiple games without changing rooms.
Instructions on howto Mod you gamespy client.
1. To start off you want to disable Gamespy's auto update feature.
Everytime you start gamespy it redownloads the files we change.
To disable this, find your Gamespy Arcade folder inside you will find a "Profiles" folder, open this and you will find "config.cfg" , open this file in wordpad and find "app_noupdates=0" , change this to "app_noupdates=1"
Save File!
Autoupdate Disabled.
2.Go back to your main Gamespy Arcade Folder and find a folder called "Services"
Inside you will find a folder called "xbox tunnel"
Inside that you will find "svc.cfg"
Open this in Word pad
Step one
Find "lateentry=0" Change to "lateentry=1"
Lets people Join after game has already been launched.
Step two
Find "maxplayers=4" Change to maxplayers=(number of your choice) ie.. maxplayers=20
Now save this file and load up Gamespy
You should now be able to host a room with many players and multiple games.. Just host a room and click launch, more will be able to join even one the room has been launched!

Microsoft ships 1m Xbox consoles
>> Responding at last to Nintendo's almost weekly press releases detailing GameCube's shipments into the US, Microsoft yesterday said it had shipped more than one million Xbox consoles in North America.
Microsoft expects to ship 1-1.5 million units by the end of the year, so it's clearly on course to achieve that goal. Nintendo now expects to ship 1.3 million GameCubes in the same period. GameCube launched in the US less than a week after Xbox's 15 November debut. Its Japanese debut took place in September.

New Mircrosoft Press Release.
>> More Than 1 Million Xbox Systems Shipped To North American Retailers In Just Three Weeks
REDMOND, Wash. -- Dec. 9, 2001 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that Microsoft® Xbox™ video game system has surpassed the 1 million mark in shipments, with 1.1 million units "sold-in" to retailers. These sell-in results build on the spectacular Xbox sell-through rate for the system’s first two weeks of launch.

The most popular games to date include "Halo™," "Project Gotham Racing™" and "NFL™ Fever 2002" from Microsoft, as well as "Dead or Alive 3™" from Tecmo, Electronic Arts’ "Madden NFL™ 2002" and Activision, Inc.’s "Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater™ 2x."
