Xbox 360 GPU Artifacts

Unlike the earlier reports his Xbox 360 is not crashing, but displays some very strange graphics. To fix he has to turn off the console and let it cool down for a bit ... so it looks like another heat problem (hot GPU/RAM?)
Here are some screenshots of COD2 messing up the graphics display during gameplay.
