Xbox LIVE Online Gaming Down? *Update2: Services Back Online*
>> There are currently no real details yet, but it looks like Xbox LIVE is having some problems right now making online play impossible. Marketplace seems to work fine however.
There are tons of reports of people unable to play their games online on the official Xbox forums.
The only some-what official information we found comes from a pinned topic on the xbox.com forums:

UPDATE1: More confirmation/details from Major Nelson (Microsoft's Xbox Live Director of Programming):
