Cheapmods on Xbox v1.6 !
>> Several people have been working to make cheapmods work on Xbox v1.6. The idea has been out for some time, but it has now also been tested and there are also some clear diagrams and tutorials.
While cheapmods (modchip using a single SST49LF020 chip - cheap and fairly easy to build yourself) were *very* hard to install on Xbox v1.3-v1.5 (required to solder the LFRAME point directly on the Xbox MCPX ... therefor often renamed to 'tightmod') ... it is now easier to install on Xbox v1.6 again!
The onboard bios (kernel/firmware whatever you want to call it) chip (Xyclops) on v1.6 is now using the LPC bus (and no longer the TSOP bus like on v1.0-v1.5) and Microsoft made their chip use LFRAME ... meaning LFRAME is back on the motherboard.

Now as LFRAME is used by the onboard bios chip ... LPC modchips that don't require LFRAME like X2.2+, X3, SmartXX, Xenium, Aladdins ... on Xbox v1.6 just ground LFRAME that results in disabling the onboard bios. This won't work on cheapmods ofcourse as cheapmod need the LFRAME (so you can't just ground it) in order to work. So you will need to either cut a track (and eventually install a switch if you want to be able to switch between the cheapmod and onboard bios) or you can also lift the LFRAME pin off the Xyclops chips.
As with any other modchips on v1.6 you will also have to rebuild the LPC points ofcourse (for headepin-install or link points directly to new points for wire-installs).

You can find more information on our forums where people installed some cheapmods already and managed to make it work :-) Here are some usefull links:

* To build and flash your own cheapmod (SST49LF020) you can still use Andy's guides: http://warmcat.com/milksop/cheapmod.html and http://warmcat.com/milksop/cheapLPC.html (or buy one of the many cheapmod-based 3rd party mods ... just make sure it's flashed with a xbox v1.6 compatible bios ...
